Goal kicking

I don't think we have any other option, he does seem to strike the ball well….....just the aim is off

Jordan and Mitchell have both got to do more practice with a goalkicking tutor, although JT was a very good striker of the ball it takes hours of practice to be a top level kicker, every kick is a pressure kick because its worth points…..we were very spoilt to have an extremely talented kicker in Richards, now we need a replacement..

He seems to want to put too much hook on the ball especially the conversion for our 3rd try. Jordan has watched Thurston too much I think.

I have been thinking about this a fair bit now, We need a high percentage kicker.

We would be winning a few more games this year if we hadn't squandered so many points.

Im going to see if i can dig up the Total points that were on offer.

15 from 35 goal kicks missed to date between Moses and Rankin = 42%

this means

20 from 35 were successful. 57%

I think he is the best option from what I have seen between him and Mitch
Rankin takes his time, composure is what I think I required
Rushing the kick increased the rate of failure by straying it.

It was a HUGE contrast between him and Reynolds last night
One full of confidence whist the other digging deep to get it between the upright.

Reynolds looks so confident it seems like he could pilot it over with his eyes closed.

Raking missed 3 kicks,
Score could have been 36-18 , now that' looks more like a thrashing.

Kicks a extremely important and I agree, they (the kickers) should spend more time practising .

Back on Rankin V Mosses, I'd leave Rankin with the kicks, he seems more likely to put them over

He got 3 out of 6 last night. He needs to keep working on his kicking game.
But then again some never improve, no matter how many extras they put in. You either have it or you don't. I think Rankin has room for improvement and will get better. 😛ray:

Sometimes the harder you try the worse it gets
Poor old Benji had this issue.

Yet he managed to pilot a drop goal from halfway at Ctown.

Bit like my golf swing. Except I call Draw and Fade to all my hooks and slices . lol

I was under the impression Moses was a better kicker. However in a kick off a while ago, it was Rankin that won and he got the job.

Moses has issues with his groin and so kicking for goal is not really an option.
Simona is about as good as me - and I am hopeless.

Best of a bad lot - think we were spoilt by Richards.

Moses is probably the better kicker but seeing he's not 100% perhaps his mind is on his body and he's not striking them as cleanly as he used to.

Drinkwater kicks in NSW Cup, and i think Hunt can kick too, but neither would be better than the 2 we've already got.

Again we score a lot of tries out wide, probably more than any other side i'd say, so that decreases our percentages a bit but we should still be doing better. Other teams have more big guys barging over near the posts whereas we have backline moves putting the winger over in the corner.

I believe that when he played in U.K. Rankin was his club's main goal kicker. He didn't start goal kicking in Australia until a couple of rounds ago so with some more practice and mentoring from his coach, who was a champion goal kicker, Rankin should be able to improve his success rate.

Rankin's goal kicking has already cost us, and is going to cost us again, I have no confidence in him turning 4 into 6 even from an easy position.
We have to find another kicker, the difference between winning and losing is quite often decided by goal kicking, we have to somehow get a goal kicker in the team.

It was a beuty wasn't it LtWT. My family and i were at that game.

Yeah its not great. But I'm sure if he keeps working on it, he's sure to improve.
Especially when you consider the only thing your coach was known for was goal kicking.
