Golden Point - Terrible and Has to go

I Struggled to watch last nights game.

In the lead up to the Full time Draw and subsequent Golden point extra time I found myself hoping no body new to the great game of ours was watching for the first time.

Golden Point is atrocious, composure, discipline and skill all went down the drain.

Refs looked scared and allowed all the infringements.

This needs to go.

Agreed. In the regular season it should be a draw and extra time in finals

7 tackle rule sucks as well

Given the number of infringements that are ignored by the refs once a game enters golden point I agree that it should be scrapped during the season and used only during the final series.

yeah,whats wrong with a draw.its a point.
and flick the video ref as well.
we had to have golden point and we had to have a video ref.the experts said.
i sound like a nark.
but the video ref and golden point dont make the game,as a spectacle, better.

Golden point is a bloody joke. I once thought there was merit in it but as OP says all skill and composure largely goes out the window. NRL probably keeps it at the behest of the broadcasters.

yep, it's crap, not sure why they persist with it during the regular season when they keep telling us about player burnout

Actually 9(in the old days),new management Team in there now,did not want games running 15 mins.overtime and were happy with a draw.Fox i guess would like the extra time as they have lots of padding in their Broadcasts.

I would say 90% of NRL fans would agree with what people are saying on this forum, golden point is not the way a game should end, and during the regular season, there is nothing wrong with a draw, and of course the odd point can make things very interesting at the end of the regular season. Once you hit the final series, than you need a winner, but I would go golden try.

What did astound me was I heard Greenberg say on a ABC interview how exciting golden point was and how the majority of fans loved it

Such a rubbish feeling when your team loses and even when you win, you know it's only a matter of averages before you lose.

Nothing worse than watching your team put in a great effort only to lose in golden point. :smiling_imp: :imp:
Each year the general public complete a survey for the NRL and results are published in the paper.
Let the general public decide. :bulb:
If people are to vote on golden point to stay or go, **it will have a resounding majority vote to go, get rid of golden point.** 😛ray:

Never thought of that but could be. I'll just repeat what others have said. Rubbish rule. If two teams go 80 minutes and end up in a draw then so be it, a point each.

I got a email from the NRL the other day to take part in a survey and at the end of the survey you had a chance to have your say, I gave golden point the big thumbs down

Seems like the coaches are all on the same wavelength too…Ive heard bennett and recently Flanagan, Hasler and barrett all denounce it

I usually found with most draws one team would count themselves lucky to jag a point while the other often were rueing what shouldve been two comp points but lucky to get one...draws are fine in normal comp games

Yeah I agree , it should be scrapped during the regular season , especially when the rules are thrown out the window during the golden point period .

But it was great to see Manly get bundled out of any finals contention !

It's just a farce the way the referees rule in golden point …other than that I find it exciting tbh.

Just say we beat the Titans this weekend in golden point .... You'd love it !

Love golden point … Even though we never win .... Makes a boring draw exciting even with all the referring issues. Adds an extra dimension.
