"Not content with claiming Trent Merrin's "cheap shot'' on Brent Tate summed up NSW's disrespect for his all-conquering team, Queensland captain Cameron Smith compared it with Danny Williams' infamous 2004 king hit that earned a record 18-week ban.

Merrin received one week for the punch in game two, but Smith said it reminded him of ex-Melbourne teammate Williams' sickening NRL career-ending hit on Mark O'Neill nine years ago.

"The last person who threw a punch like that in a game when the bloke wasn't looking got 16 (sic) weeks,'' said Smith after an unchanged Queensland 17 was named.

"It was Danny Williams and I was involved in that game".

These QLDers are off the freeking heads, fair dinkum what sort of person could even remotely compare the two incidents?
Up there with the pixies methinks….Scam Smith need to look at Williams/O'Neill incident again....Mark O'Neill did NOTHING to warrant the vicious assault Smiths team mate launched on him (granted there was an incident a lot earlier in the game) but buckets was not expecting anything.
Tate and Myles both shouldve known to expect what they deservedly got in retalition for the cowardly actions....only a brain dead imbecile could commit the fould grubby acts they did and not expect retribution.

So Mr Cam - shonky dodgy brother - smith....have a good har look at the incidents again you effin fool.....youre an embarrasment to the game.

Ink…...I am dead set stunned that three of these clowns have repeatedly dished up the same BS line and no one in the media has said a word.

They are dead set eating the biggest magic mushrooms ever up Q way if they seriously think that these two incidents bare any remote similarity.

I wonder what their thoughts would be if the roles were reversed and Tate had punched Merrin in the same manner instead…

Actually, I don't wonder, I know. There'd be nothing wrong with it and he'd be a hero for throwing a punch.

I've seen it all now , Ink and Simon agreeing

is it April 1 ?

Must agree with both of you though , but no doubt they are attempting to gain favour with the refs for game 3

Scumbags from the Storm trying to play the victim in comparing two incidents only loosely related and acting like they are identical.

It is the grapple tackle, chicken wing etc all over again.

Did Cam Smith not see the "cheap shot" from Tate on Greg Bird last year, who was lying on the ground pinned under 2 other Queenslanders? Why has the media (and Queenslanders in general) gone mad over the "king hits" from NSW players this year and claimed that things need to change, when this hardly got a mention? If these punches are to be condemned as thug acts, then why not the Tate punch last year, or Justin Hodges punches on Trent Merrin (from behind) in the same fight?

I just can't understand the furore over these 2 incidents when similar acts have gone almost un-noticed.

:roll

Funny thing this SOO - It's amazing how being from the same state can unite people against a common enemy

As for Smith, don't worry it's all just pre-game banter to get NSW backs up. He's just stirring the pot. The series is on the line, he wants NSW to get fired up so they will cop a hiding in the penalty count lol. There is no bigger motivation killer than trying to play with very little possession!

The Smith/Gallen blue wasnt a king hit at all. It has been coming for several series now and was a 'get square' of sorts…Merrin/Tate was a kingy (even though it was a weak one) as Tate wasnt looking. It is not comparable though with the shot on Buckets years ago.
