Got an idea about Woods

The enigma is Blair, bottom line is we can't have such a large part of our cap playing NSW Cup each week. We really started to see value out of him when moved to prop, whether Potter tries to shift him back to a 2ndrow/lock role or keep him in the prop rotation is the question.

Aaron is a Prop and still needs time to develop the finer details of his role which will come with another 1-2 years in the NRL… There isnt a Tertiary Education or Training Course for Props.

He needs to be knocked on his arse a few more times to gain the education he needs, but the best of Aaron Woods will only be realised when we have a second Prop denting the line every set.

why's that ink? like i get moving players isn't the best, and woods might not even suit lock but surely it's worth a moments thought

might as well do it off season not during season like sheens woulda.

too many props, not enough locks/backrowers.

I've entertained the thought a few times. People need to forget the idea of a lock being a ball player. Basically now they are a slightly smaller prop who takes hit ups late in the tackle count and plays 80 minutes. To me if woods was in a stronger and bigger team he would be playing lock.

Woods will never be an aggressive enforcer style prop, he will be a very good player wherever he plays however considering our small pack I think he could be worth a go. Personally I think we have good prop strength next year. To me a pack of:

8\. Galloway
9\. Farah
10\. Blair
11\. Fulton
12\. BMM
13\. Woods

14\. Taupau
15\. Seumanufangai/Buchanan/Brown
16\. Sue/Thompson
17\. Sironen/Paterson

Has a heap of size, skill and mobility. We simply couldn't get pushed around with that pack.

Blair's played a lot of his wests tigers career at lock and is by far more impressive at prop. At prop he is forced to get in there and hit up, he is actually quiet good at this this. At lock he brings up stats like 6 hit ups for 43m in 80 minutes.

Yep. Blair needs to stay at 10.

I'd still play Woods at 8, and bring Galloway & Taupau off the bench.

BMM is better fresh and on the edges, so he also comes off the bench.

Lock is a problem, so maybe this is where Sue comes into contention for a starting spot as Fulton is too light?

I'd start Fulton to plug the middle up and sub him for Sue when you want to add a bit of venom to the attack.

How can you say BMM plays best off the bench when his career best games were in the starting 13 this year

The times he played well were all in his second spell off the bench…

It is an option to still start him, as we know Sironen will start on one edge?

I just don't think people understand how the modern lock now plays

They play tight and in the middle of the ruck

Blair is forced to work at lock

How Potter and Sheens used locks are different

Potter is new age and plays his 13 tight

I still think Sue will be a wrecking ball at second row

Your 8,10 and 13 in 2014 are very similar roles

Lock is made for Sironen.

I don't understand why people are so obsessed with this. I dunno if it's just me but I see him as a strong, hard running 2nd rower who hits certain lines to get offloads off. similar to SBW. It's what he's been told to do, and has done well, all year and even better when not required to play 80min.

i dont think we have too much in any positoin actually.

pick the best spot for the individual and let them fight it out with other people… we can shuffle it around when we have built combos or too many injuries in one spot etc.

sheens failed to pick ONE spot for players- always shuffling them around from the start of the season. that was one of his biggest downfalls as a coach.

so in short- we dont have too many props, too many backrowers or too many halves. pick ur preferred position and work your butt off to be the best in that position- end of story.

Lock is made for Sironen.

Why would you want Sironen making 35 plus tackles and working his arse off in the middle of the ruck ??

The other advantage is this is where Blair wrestling skills can be best utilized , if we can slow teams down in the middle of the ruck we will stop them getting on a roll and help us cope with the bigger , more mobile sides

Playing Blair at 13 is just common sense and the best set up for the Tigers

Its a very simliar roles in some clubs .Three props in the middle and two edge players. The likes of Merrin, FPN, Ben Lowe, Greg Eastwood and Blair have all played lock this year with gallen playing in the 13 but effectively playing as a tradtional prop.
The difference between prop and lock is like the difference between six and seven. Bugger all.

that's probably coz with him at prop we had sue- a rookie at lock. blair was given responsibility.

put him next to woods and galloway and he will sit back and do his one hit up per half.
