Grand Final Weeks

Is it just me or does the NRL have a pathetic build up to the Grand Final. I've yet to see more then one ad on tv. Surely this time of year would be extremely beneficial to promote our game, and I find it pretty poor the NRL doesn't take a better advantage of these times.

Has anyone heard any news on the new commission, I know they had a takeover date due soon. Hopefully they turn around the majority of "our game's" issues.

The Build up is pathetic and Most of Sydney doesn't care because its Manly supposed to be representing us.

For me this GF has less hype than if it was Canberra or Nth Qld vs the Warriors.

Go the Warriors on Sunday.

It's a very ho hum build. If you don't pick up a paper you'd be forgiven for not knowing it was on. Something that really needs to be addressed.

Kiiiii Wiiiiii

Good luck to the Warriors in the GF they have played hard and made it. manly will be a very tough opposition so it should be a tough and hard contest, with a few slayings thrown in. As the Warriors would say;

"Ka mate Ka mate
Ka ora Ka ora
Ka mate Ka mate
Ka ora Ka ora
Tenei Te Tangata Puhuruhuru
Nana i tiki mai whakawhiti te ra
Upane Upane
Upane Kaupane
Whiti te ra!" (or something similar)

Have you been watching the channel 7 news cunno? They had some kiwis at bondi today teaching people the haka. There was an little Indian kid doing it, cracked me up

The NRL need to realise that a grand final is much more of an event than any other game of the year. They need to make it as big as possible to draw in the casual followers. No matter what teams make the grand final, the NRL need to work with people like Sydney council and Channel 9 to make the most of it.

once we find out which two teams will be competing, why not have a competition, done by sms on your mobile phone, where you pick the winner and the score.
then after the game one of the ref's announces the winner.
your prize is you get to go on a all expenses paid holiday etc.

this in itself would certainly raise interest in the grand final.

Yes I did see that on the news last night tigertye and the little kid was a crack up but Beau also cracked me up doing the haka on the footy show and annoying the bloke in the shop (past episodes)

The AFL puts the NRL to shame in every aspect of the way they run things. GF week is a prime example
The NRL has no parade, like the AFL do, and don't get me started on the entertainment. The AFL devotes about 45 mins to the entertainment, its one of the main features of the pre-game, and it recieves live coverage. The way the NRL go about it, its almost like they do it because its a requirement and think of it as an afterthought. Half the time channel 9 don't even cover it, they talk over it, and when they do show it, they only show it for 5 mins

I agree GNR but this has been the case for a while now and the NRL don't seem phased by it, which is surprising. Apparently there was a fan day at darling Harbour today, don't know how it went but maybe the NRL is slowly getting the message. As for the entertainment on Sunday the highlight will probably be a blackhawk delivering the premiership trophy!!

This Grand Final week has been emphatically more low key than any I can remember. It's hard to make a cake when you don't have the ingredients though. Not only is Manly generally despised, their supporter base is among the smallest in the game. Similarly it's hard to get excited about a Kiwi team. No point comparing it to the environment in Melbourne. They're nutjob zealots

The afl have two big local teams in their grand final. I'm sure if our gf was, say, the tigers vs the saints then the build up would be massive.

And in terms of pre game entertainment, the afl was pathetic. Meatloaf looked like Kim Beasley!!!!

GF entertainment is a filler, nothing more. The game will sell out no matter who plays there, and the ratings will be massive either way, it's effect on the day is minimal. Meatloaf is midway through his 60s, he was never going to sound great, he did the NRL not long ago and wasn't very good back then.
