Pretty big side don't you think..

For a CEO to miss manage a companies finances will see most CEO's stand down...the fact he held off on paying into the players Super fund now leaving the NRL a debt when the money could have been paid yearly is pretty unforgivable..The Media had absolutely zero to do with that..

Hasn’t the NRL been bailed out by some Pommie business?
$250 mill or something?

I use to dance the that song in the 80's
Yeah those were the days
I had hair then

Remember they used to play it when Wests Maggies won

The NRL bowed down to the media’s wishes and sacked Greenberg. Scary how much power they hold over rugby league, very good chance it’ll be whoever they want taking his spot too.

Greenberg didn’t do an amazing job but he did just as good as any other CEO, and did help grow the game in a lot of areas. Whoever comes in next will probably do just as much as he did.

Sorry Josh but don’t agree at all. Greenberg was amazingly inconsistent. He was flippant with money. He loved the high life and thus pandered to the wealthy and famous. He spent $500000 a friggen day yet no money could be found for Crl or juniors. His biggest contribution- the bunker, is a massive fail. Clubs hate him, networks hate him, and fans hate him. Worst CEO EVER!

CRL never ever gets any money from the NRL no matter what CEO is running the joint. My local club has been running on sponsorship money forever. The bunker is constantly in use and will be in use for a long time, he grew the women’s game and international game a lot, his biggest issue was the financial side of it.

I’m not upset by him standing down it doesn’t bother me but the media painted him out a lot worse than he was so they could get him booted which is exactly what happened, the media and channel 9 orchestrated this whole thing. It’s scary to know they have so much power over the game.

No worries mate. You are entitled to believe and think what you like. But in this case I disagree 100%. As would most as it appears. Greenberg was out of his depth. The real crime was appointing him in the first place.

With Murdoch companies owning a lot of the media, and pulling the strings behind the NRL, they're really above both. But we don't know that the NRL bowed to media/Murdoch pressure. NRL may have leaked the story to the media with their mind made up after busting him in dodgy dealing, then used it to encourage' him to resign.

And disagree about Toddy - he was rubbish, biased, inconsistent, reactionary, crooked - I can't remember one good thing he did for the NRL.

Careful what you wish for now... A certain Rugby Australia exec is looking for a gig....

History couldn't surely repeat, could it??

(April, 2013 - Greenberg announces he is leaving Canterbury - and is replaced by Raelene Castle as CEO)

Not able to come up with a replacement myself but....

I believe it should be someone without any club affiliation.

Heard a few names thrown around on Fox. Some goose from Souths, Donaghy from Storm and Paul White from Broncos: as if any of those 3 clubs need anymore of a leg-up in our game 🙄.
Hopefully we get somebody with impartiality running the game, try and get it headed towards a level playing field for a change, that'd be great.

Pretty sure I read that Andrew Abdo had nothing to do with the game before he worked at the NRL. He might be the man.

They did mention him. Kent said he has a very strong (nearly intelligible) South African accent though if I heard correctly, he might need a bit of work on his speaking.
Having said that I'd prefer a bloke with credibility and integrity albeit with language difficulties over a bloke who talks the talk and can spin BS but is totally hopeless ala Greenberg.

What Brent Read had to say about Abdo..

As for a replacement, Read says Andrew Abdo — who was appointed acting CEO — is the most obvious pick.

“Andrew Abdo is the interim chief executive. He’s the chief commercial officer and he’s the guy who’s responsible for growing the business to become a $500 million-plus business.

“I know he’s got a pretty close relationship with Peter V’landys as well. I’d imagine at the moment he’d be the favourite.”

This is an open and shut case for Phil Gould.

Lets face it, he knows EVERYTHING, Could fix EVERYTHING, is the self appointed oracle of the game, knows EVERYONE.

He is the man. Pay him whatever he wants!!!

Or perhaps he is full of ....!

When hasn’t the NRL been bad financially? He did just as bad with the money as any other CEO except he managed to grow the game internationally. Like I said I’m not fussed on who’s CEO but the media pushed very hard for this and got their way.
