Griffin had the job

There were reports from another good authority that Parish was a shoe in for the job…. Take it with a grain of salt guys....the WT news will start to get rolling from next week..,.

The reports around Parish probably surfaced from himself talking himself up. The fans were generally horrified that his name was even in the conversation.

it sounds to me like even though taylor did well researching the job - which i would expect nothing less of anyone applying for a job to ensure (im currently searching myself and sure as hell do my research so i not only have a professional approach to my career, but i know what i am in for as well…) - but that it seems none of the other applicants even did any?!
i personally felt bad for potter, and wouldnt have thought taylor was right, but it sounds as though all applicants got what they deserved....

as for taylor's tenure, well i think it is certainly going to be very testing for the near future at least and i hope he has a good temperament for pressure because i have to admit my expectations for this very young squad this season are lower than they have been... ever!

the squad to me looks quite shallow and if the casualty ward is anything like it has been in previous years there will be lean times ahead indeed. heres hoping taylor does have the right plan in this area.

The way it was explained to me was that Brown thought he had the job, Griffin "applied" for the job and Taylor wanted the job.

That's what I heard too. Parish was going around town telling people he basically had the job.

Good to hear this about Taylor. I was told by Ben Ross that at Souths Taylor was brilliant with the gameplan/tactics however put his point across in a very condescending way that got the players offside. You would hope that has changed over time.

He wouldn't still be in coaching if he didn't change

Then again , you've got to be able to put people in their place from time to time

I hope JT puts these blokes through hell and then mellows a bit when they have learnt what respect is

I think the biggest thing going against Griffin was lack of preparation due to his commitments to the Broncos

Lets hope Taylor can do more than talk the talk or it will be a long few seasons

I think your being too nice to Griffin, Nothing was happening at the broncos and he was on his way out.

He comes across to folksy and his teams struggled when they really had no right to with the players he had in his roster.

Dodged a bullet.

I like the old adage which is " The more I prepare the luckier I seem to get".

I like JT, Seems to be a very hard worker from his playing days.

His recent decision to hold all the well known players back from playing in the 9s this year shows me that he has his priorities right.

I think whoever takes on the Broncos post Bennett is going to struggle

He seems to be able to draw on endless resources that Henjak and Griffin missed out on

I wish Griffin well , from all reports he is a lovely bloke and hope he can JH with the CQ boys in the Qld Cup

My take (From what I heard) on it is:
Potter thought he deserved one more year at it… With "his" squad - Although I heard the same stuff last year about "His" squad.
Most were of the opinion that we were a basket case and in dire need of a coach - Griffin, Parish and Brown didn't think they had to "get" the job... Just merely turn up and it would be handed to them.
JT had his homework available to him (As all rival clubs do), He just had to press print... The fact that he put his own game plan together for the CEO, The Board AND our major sponsor to better his case and sell himself for the job goes above and beyond any other groundwork done by the other applicants. He deserves the job on this basis alone.

In all honesty, Potter had the job... It was his to lose, And he lost it.... Much like most of us can't forgive losing "unloseable" games, If he wanted the job and was capable... He'd still have the job!!

As do I, we really need a rocket after last years ending. The thing Taylor has here that he may not have had at Souths, is his own support staff. Theres only gonna be one song sheet.

There is a good vibe around the place about this preseason that I have not felt for quite a few years… The changes by the club have been warranted... Fingers crossed the boys stay on the field!!!!

Can't blame Potter for feeling a little deflated in the interview after he was put through the wringer over the past two years. Would have thought he was 100/1 anyway.

From my memory of JT's stint with Souths….many of those players he had were simply not good enough and change is hard. On the plus side, this squad is very young and yearning to learn, so his style may well work. Nonetheless, I dare say, like anyone of any intelligence he has learnt and hopefully grown from his experiences.

I think the key is that he has full support of the Board to implement his plan over a period of 3-6 years. While it is important to remain consistent with key principles, implementing a strategy is a dynamic process and it is important that JT remains open and honest in his communication with the Board.

LC,I agree, also JT has to make sure everyone is on the same page and all have to get on,from S&C right through to the playing group…

If everyone can communicate with each other in a professional manner and be honest and open, then it makes for a far better, enjoyable environment...which in turn leads to better results on the field...

I have it on good authority that Grifffin was all but over the line as head coach. They flew him down to Sydney ready to give him the job as a safe, experienced option to guide a young roster. However once they flew him down for the interview they found him um and arring his way through. Apparently had none no back ground on the club, no real knowledge of the roster, or no concrete plans for the future of the club.

Potter was apparently much the same. Mayer actually recommended keeping Potter however in his interview he was very dull, um and arring his way through. The new board which had come in were underwhelmed by both candidates vision and ability to inspire the room.

Then Taylor came in and blitzed it. He had done a huge amount of background on the club and its injury history, its current rosters, its strengths and weaknesses, his plans for the future. The board were so impressed the decision was practically made immediately to offer him the job given how impressive he was compared to Griffin and Potter.

Take it with a grain of salt. I mean without any info you could have concluded that Taylor obviously impressed compared to the others. However it was encouraging to here just how impressive he was that he was a clear stand out and not a border line decision to give the gig to.

Taylor probably was not my first choice originally however this really heartened me that we might have not a very smart operator. Obviously man management is what comes into play over the course of a season and there have been questions marks int he past for Taylor in this regard. Your only as good as the cattle you have though so he still could be in for a bumpy ride.

I heard pretty much the same thing.
Potter had no plans and simply couldn't put it together.

I am starting think that we will make the eight. Anybody who cant sell their story for a $500k job doesnt deserve it. Taylor seems authentic in what he proposed and in implementing it now. If he can instill a strong defence system into the team the Tigers will win more than they lose.
