Hoppa and LOD would have got plenty of their weeks playing for Manly and the Cows though. Can't remember how many weeks Kearney and Marcus Bai got for their spear tackle that ended McCracken's career?….that was a disgraceful tackle. Lucky Jarrod had a neck like a tree trunk or else there was every chance he would of ended up in a wheelchair.

I don't generally revel in players getting hurt or suspended.

However every time Bird gets legitimately hurt, or gets hard done by in a 50:50 decision, or gets suspended I can't help but smile.

I don't either but every time I see a Taniela, Simon Dwyer or Alex McKinnon I think if it had to happen, why couldn't it happen to a blight on the game like Bird instead of these guys.

I hear ya both. We shouldn't really think like this, but with Bird it's hard not to. He is such an unlikeable person, who seems to think way more highly of himself than he ought to.

He's just so….

NSW forward Greg Bird won t play in this year's Origin series after copping an eight-match NRL ban.

NSW forward Greg Bird will not play in this year's State of Origin series after copping an eight-match ban at the NRL judiciary on Wednesday night.

Bird fronted the judiciary seeking a downgrade on his grade two dangerous throw on Kiwi winger Jason Nightingale late in the Kangaroos' Test loss to the Kiwis on Sunday.

But it was not forthcoming and the eight-game ban means the Gold Coast forward will miss the entire Origin series.

I'm no fan of Bird but that wasn't such a bad tackle.
The bloke ended up on his back - not his head (same as a few of the others he has been pinged for).
Picking someone up, driving them backwards and dumping them on the ground used to be considered a good tackle and applauded.
Another example of the league going soft.

Oh golly gosh darn.

Looks like Bird is rubbed out for 8 weeks.

That is such a shame.

He's been done something like 4 times in 12 months for lifting tackles. The old slap on the wrist didnt work.

I honestly think NSW will miss him along with Gallen

You lose a lot of workrate that wins SOO games

Just my opinion

And yes , he is a piece of crap

Bird was so bad in that test match. I think that might be his last kangaroos jersey

if it was the first time he'd done it in the last couple of years he would have only gotten 1-2 weeks. If it were the second, 2-3, third maybe 4-5\. But this is his 4th in a couple of years and he's been done for a few other on-field issues too I think.
He's obviously never going to learn so 8 weeks is what he deserves. Get him off the field.

Althoug it is interesting that, from memory, this is longer than he got for glassing his partner and then lieing to the police to blame his "mate". Maybe the NRL should have just banned him for life then.

Here's hoping his court hearing this week goes badly for him too.

A question? Do Clubs pay there Players income while there suspended? I dare say they do but players like Greg Bird who are massive risks i would be sticking a clause in his contract that while suspended your not getting paid.
8 weeks of pay without Playing, what a joke.

I think the NRL integrity unit is holding off while there are criminal matters before the court. Once that's resolved I would be very surprised if Bird plays again this year.
