Guaranteed 2nd Week In the Finals

Thanks to the Warriors inept display against the Titans we are assured of 2 bites at the cherry in the extremely unlikely event that the Cocks beat us tomorrow, now we are playing for that extra week off and in light of injuries a win will be a blessing to enable some of out players that little bit extra time to recover, Let's Rock TIGERZZZZ :righton:

that doesn't guarantee a spot. Even if Tiges win tomorrow, it doesnt guarantee a spot.

???

If you win in week 1 you're through to the 2nd week 😱pen_mouth:

I just ran the ladder predictor for about 20 minutes and was able to confirm this

My ladder predictor has us through to week 3…..can anyone confirm this?

LOL, awesome thread.

Tonight's result actually had no bearing whatsoever on whether me made it or not, as both the teams are ranked lower than us. One was bound to lose, so really, it didn't matter if it was the Titans or the Warriors.

if you put panthers lost and tiges won, then yes.

or you couldve put dragons lost and panthers won, but thats highly unlikely

The reason I posted this was that in circa 2004 a team in the Top 4 was straight out as the bottom 4 teams of the Top 8 all won, as much as I despise the Illawarra Dragons Penrith upset them from below the top 4 and knocked them out.

Ahhhh, the McIntyre system. **Let the confusion reign**. I love not really knowing what you are playing for.

Prime example number 1: In 2005, Flogging the Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs, only to be in the same situation as the beaten team the following week (albeit with a home final).

Example number 2: Poor old Manly last year (it is difficult to have sympathy)… losing on the Friday night, but not finding out that you've been eliminated until Sunday night (due to other results). It's the warriors, now waiting on other teams results. No wonder the AFL scrapped the McIntyre system in 1999..... but I guess I'm just flogging a :deadhorse:

Lets just slay the chooks tomorrow night  :sign:

The result of 4 v 5 means nothing to us, because both teams are below us. One will win and the other will lose, and it doesn't really matter who.

After much debate with a few other loyal fans there was an outside chance that we could have been knocked out in spite of where we finished on the ladder, all it would have taken was for Manly to have beaten the Steelers and all the teams below us to have lost, thus us, the Tigers and the Titans would have bitten the bullett, Warriors saved us for another week.
My tipping has been pretty good this year and I tipped the Warriors to win, I was Very Very Wrong :deadhorse:

So what has to happen for WT to play the Dragons in a semi??

Do the Dragons need to beat Manly this week, then get the week off

+

WT need to lose to the Roosters, hope other results go their way so they aren't eliminated, then beat whoever the following week's preliminary final

=

WT vs Dragons semi final RE-MATCH!! :righton:

The McIntyre system is crap, but it isn't that difficult to understand. In the unlikely event that the Roosters, Raiders and Sea-Eagles all win…. we will be gone until 2011.

From memory, Penrith came 4th and won 31-30 (leapt out to like 24-0 in the first 20 minutes and just hung on). Again though, St George were 5th.

And that year, Storm beat Brisbane (3rd vs 6th) and the Cowboys upset the Bulldogs (7th vs 2nd), so yes, St George got kicked out. But they were 5th!

The system is that the 2 LOWEST RANKED LOSERS get kicked out. So, in theory, 3rd and 4th could get kicked out (if 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th all lose), because they would be the lowest ranked loser. In that scenario, 5th and 6th go on to Week 3 because they are the HIGHEST RANKED WINNERS.

No team from the Top 4 has ever been kicked out in Week 1, although even last year, Manly were eliminated in Week 1 from 5th (because Bronces beat Titans and Eels beat Dragons).

Fun Fact: Never in the history of the NRL has 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th all won in Week 1, there is always an "upset".
