Gus Gilmour RIP

Sad new that big Gus Gilmour passed away today. He was one of the first exciting cricketers to emerge after years of very boring players.

Left arm bowler who could swing the ball a mile either way at pace and as a batter could hit a ball a mile. I was at the SCG when he hit a century on debut(i think), scoring a 100 in a session. With 20 20 cricket today this guy would have been a multi millionaire.

He played for Western Suburbs out of Pratten Park although lived in Newcastle. He played hard on and off the field and was a great pal of Dougie Walters. Poor bloke had health issue for years, sad to see him go–thoughts go out to his family who also only just lost their eldest son to a brain tumor.

As Ian Chapple just said, "gus was at the top of the line when they gave out talent and at the end when they gave out health"

My biggest memory of Gilmore was his 6-14 v the Poms in the 75 World Cup

He was virtually unplayable as it was swinging either way and seaming

Another great left hand batsmen , all the most talented batsmen are left handed

RIP Gary Gilmore

I was lucky enough to be coached by him at some cricket clinics in Newcastle. I ran into him a few times after that and he was always a top quality man with a great sense of humour.
