Halfback??? Lui, Moltzen or Miller

In last years finals series Lui was one of our best, but his defence of late is a huge liability, channel 9 even picked up on it and the competition definitely has. Running the big men at him all day. Truth is there's nowhere to hide on a football field and his defensive form is not up to grade even though he's a halfback. He has the attacking skills but I think he needs a while in NSW Cup to work on his overall game.

Moltzen in my eyes isn't the answer either. I think he would struggle to give direction and organize. I think plays more of a roving back/five-eighth then a half but I think could be a great fullback if he works on his support play and positioning, and will more then likely cover McKinnon when he heads overseas next year.

Miller is perfect for our side for mine. A specialized half with plenty of confidence and has good defence. The young bloke may be the spark we need and a good goalkicker aswell. If he maintains a good attitude for his age he could be a future star. He'd be my pick.

X10 for me. If they are good enough, they are old enough according to Jack Gibson.

Why not play a backrower at 5/8 and leave it to Benji…. It worked yesterday and it is one less defensive liability our there?!

Benji cant wear the 7 jersey though... It will cause outrage!!!

It would make more sense replacing someone who has played halfback all year with another player who has also played halfback all year

I mentioned this a while back but I think Farah and Marshall can playmake enough. We need another pivot though but only to pass and put in the very rare kick. I know we've tried Fulton at 7 before but let's do it again I say! Defender at halfback who can pass and actually has a reasonable kick. A Ben Hornby type.

The truth is we need Benji as our outright no 1 playmaker.

We won against the warriors because Benji took over. Sometimes Farah and Lui get in the way and that is the issue.

I dont get it with Lui, a couple of years ago he tore u 20's to shreads and i thought to myself this bloke when given half a chance will be some-thing special in first grade but he has never proved to be the player that had the potential. Miller is the same alas he hasnt been a stand out as much as Lui but seems to read the game better and isd an organiser which we need will be interesting out of these 2 which one ends up living up to there potential.

Lui was playing 6 outside a more traditional halfback in Darren Nicholls. He would put up the sweetest of bombs up for Sauvao or put Clarke into space when running at the line, but that's because he was playing 6 instead of having to worry about feeding the ball to Benji every second play.

He may as well be playing 9 these days…

just my opinion, not saying it's right

For mine Miller or a player similar is the missing link that our side needs his type of play will compliment both Benji/Robbie but he has not been test fully in the top grade ..has more basic skills than Moltzen and Lui until he learns how to defend has no place there it's a shame as he has ability .

That annoys me so much, god forbid Benji actually wears number 7\. He's been our halfback ever since Morris was moved from the halves, but due to media and fan outrage, he cant wear the number 7\. And maybe, just maybe, it has something to do with his own phsyc???? Maybe he actually feels better wearing the 6, and if thats what works well ok, ill cop that, but if its because of the media scrutiny then get over it.

When Moltz is at 7 benji is most definately our halfback. When Lui is at 7, he takes on a bit more than Moltz but Benji is still our halfback.

Just put Benji in the 7 and move on. His game wont change and it will take a lot of mental pressure off whoever plays 6, be it Lui or Moltzen. I would love to see how Moltzen goes in his best postion of 5/8

At the moment:

- Moltzen: immediate term
- Lui: medium term (but needs a stint in NSW Cup to toughen his defence)
- Miller: long term (half or 5/8, he'll go great!)

Robert Lui is the best option we have at 7 in the short- and medium-term. Stick with him, he will be a star for us.

The two positions are pretty similar especially the way we play. Benji is however our key playmaker bar none.

Moltzen and Benji work well together because Moltzen is a great option for Benji to put into space plus he can pass a real good long ball to give Benji some room to move.

Luican play but his defence has been so bad it is a liability. His attack has also been poor but there was some improvement against the warriors. Personally I think he was hooked because he has been playing so poorly. Sheens doesn't do this very often at all. It will be interesting to see how Lui progresses from here.

I agree.

I don't think Sheens will put Miller ahead of Lui unless Lui is injured.

I think Moltzen will make an excellent No. 14\. He can cover for half back, full back, wing and centre.

Give miller a go for a few weeks and see what happens but in saying that we are winning.Lui does needs to work on his defence though.

Miller for me. Everything about his game should complement BM and RF. Also helps that he is a fantastic defender.
