Halfback

There are plenty of talented players playing 6 & 7 in the lower grades.

I still believe that, if you are not blessed with Johns/Thurston talent, it comes down to aligning the skills of your organisational players.

You need someone smart enough to know when/where to kick.

You need someone fast/elusive enough to be dangerous when running at the defence.

If they are the same player- ooh, exciting...

If not- get your mix right, and play disciplined ball.

We currently have a fullback & hooker in our 1st grade squad that other teams would love.

You look at Townsend/Dearden last season. Neither of these guys are that much more talented than Wakeham, Volkmann, Taaffe etc. But it was a good mix.

The Tigers COULD find a couple of under appreciated players to mix in with Api & Bula, that would give direction around the field, without spending a million dollars on 34 year old Ben Hunt.

I saw Melbourne create that overlap so often. Clearly Melbourne knew what they were doing to exploit our defensive weaknesses. Yet what's the Topic, Fire Wakeham because a wing and Centre pairing can't defend?

Replace Wakeham with Pearce, Johnson, Hunt Anyone we have been named with. BOOM Melbourne still score 28 points against us!

Now a defensive halfback, like Moses, like DCE may be able to work with the coach and coach out the gaps. Really though the Fullback is going to have the best picture of the field and see where the gaps were. I saw Bula run in a few times and while I can fault Bula for not marshalling the troops better.... He is a bloody Basketball player and IMHO we should have coached him better!

I don't blame Bula, AJ and Tupou have had enough games playing together to realise "hey were a frigging pair of Turnstyles.". I blame Sheens for not working out a proper edge defense.

Wakeham put in a good high ball for Twal (was it wakeham or Toa?, I thought Wakeham). Yes, points to Twal for getting it down and points to whoever batted it back but IMHO that was well read. Against the Storm you are going to get very few opportunities.

I can't believe the answer is "fire the halfback" when our Wing defense and defensive structures are suffering.

Your right our left side defence was rubbish and we we’re always pushing shit uphill and unlikely to win, but with the possession we had, we should have scored more.
 
Who's want to come to Wests Tigers though? If you were advising Pezet for example, you're better off playing 5-10 games a year for a couple more years at Storm than to be chucked in the deep end at Tigers without any support.

That’s rubbish, he is at least 3-4 years before he gets a starting spot, by then he’s 26 or 27 , also he would be on no more than $200,000 a season if we offered $450,000 for 3-4 years that’s nearly a million more , the kid would be a idiot to pass up that coin

Plus considering Bellyache won’t be there after next season so that attraction is gone as well.

Very hard not to agree with that and the fact that we are so inept with our recruitment that it took us to just before the start of the season proper to secure a second string back up half.

I won't even go into the stupidity of extending the contract of a player for an extra season to be our #6 before the season even started.

The fact that the player in question was coming off a second ACL and that there was always the possibility that he may actually have a third.

100% this club in all reality needs to be folded. The merger hasn't worked at board level. As much as I love Wests this club is making lose interest in the sport I adore. We are a joke to all players and for good reason. After 40 years I have had a enough of this shit show

Hunt being in the top 5 halves shows how poor the quality of halves are in the comp.

I honestly think the best chance we had was signing Brooks and Wakeham on lesser dollars and looking to develop some halves. Douieihi is also a chance to slot into that role although I think Wakeham has outplayed Doueihi this year. So the chance of Doueihi coming good is really low.

It's terrible what mismanagement has done to passionate fans. We should be a juggernaut, but are stuck in the mud and nobody in leadership can correct it, because they're responsible for most of it.
 
A couple of things from the weekend stood out / made things clear for me from what i heard .. Tim said that:
1. that the we are looking for world class half back
2. yes that Ben Hunt is world class half back
3. Tim doesn't want to start any type of rumour about Hunt being associated with the Tigers
4. we are looking in the NRL and overseas for a world class half back
5. Adam Dhoueihi is probably out the whole of 2024 (next season) .. (wow some injury)

So take what you can from that .. !!

In regards Ben Hunt has stated he wants to leave (Saints) to join a club that gives him an opportunity to win a Premiership .. so there are many clubs who are interested in getting Hunt on-board .. us being one of those clubs. (so far the clubs interested in Hunt are: Tigers, Bulldogs, Titans, Dolphins and the Rorters) .. ask yourself who out these clubs who is most likely to give Hunt a chance at winning a Premiership .. Hunt is currently 33 years young .. how many season does he have left .. 2 or 3 .. ??

World class halfback ... Lachlam Lam is a PNG test rep, many believe young Lewis Dodd is world class too & you could make a case that Chad Townsend & Mitchell Pearce are world class with their experience. There is another 4!
