Halfback

Why are you throwing shade at a fan who has stated he has followed the club for four decades and is fed up?
I apologise if anyone is offended, I just had enough of "fans" that come to this forum only to spread doom and gloom (d&g) e.g. fold the WT ASAP or even better yesterday!
Some would say that we had enough d&g served by the club in the last three years, so we do not need to read continuous #meToo dirge here. 😢
On the positive side, we finally have a few potential star players (Bula, Pole, Tupou, Da SIlva etc.) and forwards that we could only dream of from the time of Farah, LaFranchi, Payton, Ellis, Dwyer.
We are for a change again competitive against the teams that beat us regularly with 40+ in the last three years.
Sadly, Maguire was a big disappointment, he had three years to do what Sheens had done in a few months, but he preferred to "play it safe", and acquired only mediocre, expensive, has-beens.🙁😢
Based on his record of finding the right players, Sheens record is a second to none (by saying that - keeping Seyfarth and letting Ofahenagaue go ??, the same could be said about Nofoaluma when we have younger, and much faster Staines??).
So, Bula, To'a, Tupou, Kremmer, Da Silva, Bateman, Pole, Matamua etc. on the positive side, and Ofaphenague on the negative side says enough to me.

Seyfarth is off contract at the end of the year I believe and Staines is out injured last I knew so imo it’s an unknown at this point how they are reguarded
Would of been nice to keep offa on the bench though

You can call all this a positive.
I call it a reasonable collection of players being incompetently coached and forming a shithouse Rugby League football team.
The facts support this statement.

like surely big timmy and fulton snag sexy hunt and courageous Cogger for the halves, just advertise the forward pack we have. (please don't kill me forum members for my opinion being stated)

I 100% agree with you on the defensive side of the line; however, that can be fixed relatively quickly. We have a bye coming up so two weeks to pick a starting lineup and get the defensive reads right. We were too easily stripped for numbers with basic plays and that starts at the inside backs and egde forwards. Once they turn in they all have to turn in and then deal with anything outside with our cover/scramble. That just didn't happen - Bulla and the inside backs were not coming across in cover to make the sideline our extra defender. That is a bout attitude and effort. This can be fixed easily.

Scoring points on the other hand can't be fixed easily. Wakeham is passing too early and as a result doesn't committing the inside defence. The opposition defence can drop off and carry on with the play as he poses no threat. He has to dig into the line a little deeper before distributing the ball - it is his only play because he is so slow. He will not break the line open with his footwork or his speed so he has to take the line on and then pass or distribute very early for a set play. I have only seen him dig into the line a few times this year so unless they can develop this in him over the next week or so he should be shoveled back in to Reggies and someone else given an opportunity; how's the Pillow coming along?

On the kicking front it is a similar issue in his short game. If he kicked at the line instead of before it his grubbers/chips into the in goal would be significantly more effective. His deeper kicks just aren't directed well. He places them accurately but doesn't have the height to get our players into the contest. Our outside backs really don't attack the ball when it goes up etiher so it doesn't help. We very rarely compete for the ball from our own kicks; that is again attitude and effort. Again something that can be coached.

Toa is a centre - he is not up to FG standard as a 5/8. We were weak in both areas as a result against Melbourne. Laurie or Reilly perhaps?
I hope Sheens dedicates the bye to defense.
IMHO I don't think it can be fixed quickly, I do think that if we focus on it we can knock off the

Toa is 100% a Center. A part of the reason why our defense sucked so much was moving Toa.
The forum will hate me in saying our only option is Daine Laurie till we get someone better. Far better to keep Bula at Fullback, Toa at Centre and people used to Toa at Centre.

We need pairings and set positions. Our positioning absolutely sucks with Melbourne scoring 4 tries due to an unmarked winger *groundhog day*.

or try a youngster since the season is over ?

If Hunt is released I predict Dragons will insert a clause that it will have to be with a QLD team. I think we go for a young supertalented 6 like Fainu and complement wit a game manager like Cogger.

Been preoccupied for a couple of weeks, what’s happening with the halfbacks?
What I think I know...
Manly were collecting halves, while we were sacking halves. We then offered big money to the best halves in the comp, including Moses, who rejected us, prompting us to sack Macca.
We offered Brooks what we thought was a fair market rate and gave him 3 days to decide. He rejected the offer.
We have now turned to looking at the halves we have sacked to see if any of them have short memories and/or will come back anyway?
We seem to have gone full circle.
I guess the next step is to make an offer to Brooks that he thinks is a fair market rate?
I’ve never been good at guessing what they’ll do next.

We risk falling back into bad old habits of paying over for a middle order half past their prime.

Unfortunately that is inescapable while we’re seen as cellar dwellers with an unstable organisational structure filtering throughout, we will continue to pay extra.
How long will it take the likes of Bula, DaSilva and others to want to play finals footy?

Pretty hard to guess what they'll do next when they are running around like a bunch of headless chooks not knowing what to do next.

Lack of leadership from the top, who are usurping positional authorities. In hindsight it seems to form a pattern. The discontent with Sheens came soon after he landed in OZ. No longer known as the great man. Got him to agree with a demotion to coach. Probably got a pay rise in the process. Lol

I don’t get all the talk about trying to get Cogger, Pretty hard not to look ok filling in for last years premier’s, I wonder how he would look filling in for last year’s wooden spooners ?

Cogger is the sort of player that we usually end up signing, through his parentage he is a link to the past so he is wanted by some and will not help our future one iota.We need to sign players to give us a decent future and he will NOT do that
