for a half brooks isnt that highly paid really

According to the top 100 list he is on $600k

I can understand a club paying $4.5m over 4 years for Teddy, a proven SoO gamebreaker. I don’t understand how Mitch Moses is worth $900k yearly or Brooks is worth $600k pa? Neither have played rep footy.

The 6 again rules should benefit Liddle

Ok, so we need Liddle to remain injury free until Harry gets back........Good luck with that !

MBye can continue to fill in at hooker if Liddle doesn't turn up. Best we can do. All teams are having injury problems. Newcastle has just lost two hookers for the season.

One thing people have forgotten is the form of Brooks and the style of hooker. Brooks can’t play with a dominating hooker who uses the ball. He struggled with Farah and Grant.

He was dominant with Goodinet, ET and Liddle for a short time. He likes shovel or run hookers not ones that read defence and use the ball accordingly. This is Brooks issue not Farah or Grant but it’s a big issue.

You just never know Brooks form may coincide with a lesser hooker at 9. He may play well with Liddle or Mbye.

Not having a go at you Tyga, but people seem to think Brooks hasnt had a good game this year. Prior to about 4 weeks ago, he was playing well and in a few of our wins was close to MoM.

Edit. - Going through the 321 threads v Dogs & Cowboys, plenty giving Brooks points. 5 weeks ago

That’s the issue your halfback has to be good all year. It’s a key position the pack has been the best we have had for numerous years. He has no excuses atm. I rate Brooks not a hater on him but he is running out of chances. He’s highly paid and not delivering.

Agreed that your halfback has to be consistent and Brooks hasnt been of late, no question. He is not highly paid though for a halfback. He is on $550K which is more than I earn but not a lot for NRL halfbacks and IMO representative of his standing in the game (maybe top 10). Needs to improve for us to be a real and consistent top 8 chance, no doubt but based on the discussion here you would think he is Ben Hunt.

Brooks is not Ben Hunt. He is not overpaid, and he HAS played well this year and it wasnt that long ago he was Dally M half of the year. I dont think people understand how hard it will be to replace a halfback fo that standing, particularly for that price.

Brooks is an asset and its up to Madge to get the best out of him.

bro Brooks is not on $550K. That was his last deal which expired after the 2019 season. His salary is more likely in the $800-900K range.

He's on nowhere near that much.

I’m beginning to think this Liddle guy is a figment of our imagination. Is he ever going to actually play a game for us?

Not sure if mentioned already but Hetherington not allowed to play vs Penrith next week. Wonder if that means Grant is also out vs Storm (rnd19). The season may be gone by then and we may opt for Liddle/Simpkin anyway but will be interesting to see if our season is on the line

Its a joke. If you release a player out then you're doing it because you're not playing them in you're 17. Yet too scared to let them play against you. Surely if they are that good you wouldn't let them go in the first place.

I would presume that Grant can play against the Storm as he was involved in a player swap whilst Hetherington was purely loaned to the Warriors with the Panthers receiving nothing in return.

I would think that he could. Didn't the warrior loans have that stipulation I believe Grant's loan deal is different in that he is signed to us for the year not sure if that was the case for the warriors loan deals

What's an even bigger joke is the Dogs aren't allowing CHN to play against them and he's not on a swap deal like Hetherington, he's signed with the Raiders.
I don't understand how this is allowed, but I also don't agree with players jumping ship halfway through a season, it's a circus IMO

I think that's the difference. Grant is contracted to us for this season. The other bloke is still contracted to the Pennies and has been loaned to the Warriors.

Maybe Ivan is worried that Hetherington might target the favourite son.

Why would Penrith let one of their contracted players play against them? It’s the same as every other loan deal in world sports.

Liddle, available for selection as per the injury report. We just have to get through this game with Mbye/Walters.
Hopefully we see him named in the 21 so he can get a full week with the run on side!

Well not convinced on Liddle has rarely been on the park due to Injury and when he has picks up another injury. Has promise next time back will most likely determine if he plays long term as the number 9.

In loan deals done in the EPL you don't play against your own team ...I guess we will see

Storm won't stop Grant from lining up for clash with Tigers

Harry Grant will be free to line up against Melbourne when he returns from injury, despite the rising star being on loan at the Wests Tigers and set to resume his career in purple next year.

The 22-year-old young gun has been the breakout rookie of 2020 since joining the club on a temporary swap deal with Paul Momirovski,

But the Storm won't force their future No.9 to sit out the round 19 clash with the Tigers on September 19.

Unlike the Panthers' loan deal with Warriors prop Jack Hetherington, who will be forced to miss next week's clash with Penrith, both clubs agreed Grant and Momirovski could play against their respective sides when deals were negotiated in March.

Momirovski has already been spared the prospect of tackling his former teammates as he is in the early stages of a three-month recovery period after undergoing surgery on a torn finger tendon in July.

However, Grant is likely to be fit for the Storm clash before the finals after being ruled out of action for 3-4 weeks following knee surgery on Friday.

The joint venture club agreed for Grant to undergo an arthroscopic procedure on his meniscus this week after transparent communication between the two clubs' medical and football operations staff.

Panthers coach Ivan Cleary indicated it was a mutual decision for Hetherington to not line up opposite them in round 14.

"I don't think it's in anyone's best interests for Jack to play, it's more a well-being thing," Cleary said of the 24-year-old forward.

"Jack's not comfortable for a start to play against his teammates and I don't think our boys would be comfortable.

"It's more there'd be too much compromise for either team and I think the Warriors understand that situation.

"Jack's been doing a good job for them so they're happy for him to take that stance.

"It's a week-to-week proposition with Jack anyway, I know the contracts work in four-week blocks but essentially he's only one injury away to coming back."

Parramatta may also make a similar decision on Daniel Alvaro and George Jennings if they extend their four-week loan deals with the Warriors into next month.

The Eels face the Warriors in round 17 on September 6 – a fortnight after the fringe pair's current loan offer is expected to end.

Raiders recruit Corey Harawira-Naera has already ruled himself out of playing his former club Canterbury in round 16 as part of the terms in his mid-season contract release.

However, the Warriors haven't stood in the way of Newcastle recruit Blake Green, who will line up against his former teammates in the same round.

Hetherington won’t be playing against Penrith. He’ll be suspended after tonight’s effort, so the point is moot.

He is not on loan to us in that sense. That's why it took so long to get it organised. He had to cancel his contract with the Storm; then sign a contract with us for this season; and, sign another contract with the Storm for next season.

He is contracted to us this year and I'd be surprised if the Storm had any say in which teams he can play against this season (unless there was a stipulation in the contract, which would be very strange).

Hetherington is contracted to the Panthers and so they can dictate which games he is eligible to play.

Everybody is calling Harry a young gun because of his brilliant hooker role he is playing for us.....

With his mannerism and composure he is showing while in our colours ...to me he is a

LEGEND already...
