That article doesn't sound promising that he will stay on.

I thought the opposite. If Cameron plays on, he'll be chancing his arm. Hope we have a fair chunk of money put aside for him, because he's probably our best player.

He's definitely our best player, no contest

Johnathan Thurston urges Brisbane Broncos to sign Cameron Smith
By Melanie Dinjaski

Queensland Maroons great Johnathan Thurston has urged the struggling Brisbane Broncos to do all in their power to lure Storm veteran Cameron Smith to the club.

Thurston said "mismanagement" at the Broncos has been their biggest failing in recent years, letting go "a lot of leaders".

Most recently the club farewelled long-time hooker Andrew McCullough to the Newcastle Knights, which hasn't helped their 2020 campaign.

"They've still got Alex Glenn and Darius Boyd there but they've got no leadership in the halves and that's where they need it," Thurston said in his 'Toast and Roast' segment on Wide World of Sports.

The Maroons, Kangaroos and Cowboys legend said the club need to make a bold move to address their leadership void, and the answer could be in signing Smith from the Melbourne Storm.

"If I was the Broncos I'd be throwing the kitchen sink at Cameron Smith," Thurston said.

"He's a Brisbane boy. To see him go back there, it's what they're missing - leadership on and off the field - and he could definitely fill that void.

"It's been a tough couple of months for the Broncos. They started the season really well but they're in a hole that they need to dig out of. "

I think Smith would be too proud to go around with someone else or the super league......It'll be Storm or nothing and he will segue into being everywhere for Fox Sports

Unfortunately Harry will only be with us for one year, there is a contract in place, get used to it. Enticing players to break contracts not our style, more a Parra thing, but both Melbourne and the NRL will make sure he's back in Storm colours.

Yes you're right, it's a sad thing, but we just have to make the best of it while we still have him with us. First goal is to make the finals with him here while somehow blooding another hooker to take his place next season. My money's on Simpkin, I don't think Liddle is much chop, tbh.

Ben Ikin wants Smith to play 7. Would love to see the wording in Harry’s contract, but the verbal jousting from the QLD connection tells me that there’s a real possibility of Grant being able to break his Storm contract, particularly if Smith is still in the team next year?

So would it be safe to assume that every single QLDer thinks his next stop will be the broncos? Surely they look too much like a hot mess right now, whereas we seem to have a newfound sense of stability.....his old man sure didn't have too much praise for them

Any chance cronks comments are aimed at Brooks a bit?

Brooks has really not lived up to the hype despite time in grade around an average team.

Storm need a good half back.

If we were offered to give brooks and keep Grant next year, who here would take it?

That would be the best move Brooks could make been at the Tigers to long and is comfortable and settled and not lived up to the hype . You would see him blossom under Bellamy as he has plateaued at the Tigers !

There is another problem if Smith stays at 1/2 the get out clause could still be invoked. It is if Smith plays on whether if it is specific on position ?

The ‘hype’ he hasn’t lived up to was people literally saying he’s the next Andrew Johns. I don’t think there’s a player around that could live up to that hype.

Brooks would thrive at Melbourne though

If all else fails, the best option for us will be to extend the loan arrangement for another year. I’m not overly worried about signing him up for life. If Simpkin is the real deal we have a back up and a wild card in Liddle if he gets back to full fitness.
