Harry Grant

Cronks obviously going to want a future Australian dummy half to stick with his alma mata . I will say this . Nothing lasts forever . The storm and chooks aren’t guaranteed to be the benchmark in 5 years . In fact it’s more likely they’re not, due to the natural life cycle of these things. Like willow said. With the COE and the roster we are slowly building . Who’s to say it isn’t us , in 5years. The Patriots were the joke of the league pre Brady. So were the Golden State warriors pre Steph Curry . Now they’re both ,what the benchmark is for excellence. And conversely , the Chicago Bulls were the benchmark , now they’re a joke . And so were the Dallas Cowboys .

All your references are from sports with a draft, which seems like a much fairer way of managing a pool of talent.

The better he plays the more likely storm are to keep him. They will push Cameron to retire this year

I reckon Smith's massive ego will likely ensure he goes round again. What happens then is anyone's guess. If Grant's contract with Storm really does give him an out, it's up to him as to what he does next. He can stay in Melbourne, on a new (no doubt improved) deal, test the market or just stay with us.

I unfortunately agree @JoshColeman99. Whatever Cameron Smith is being paid this year, he will get next year after they suggest very strongly he becomes an ambassador for the club rather than playing on.

It’s not like Smith has declined. The reason he’s still playing is cos he’s still capable of a high standard. If you wanna talk egos, look at some of our players recently, Farah, Lawrence and even Marshall to an extent. All stayed long past their used by dates. Smith hasn’t.

I think what Bellamy does will have a big influence on when Smith hangs them up. There could be the temptation to go around next year if it’s Bellamy’s last season and go out together at the end of 2021. Though, I always take Bellamy’s retirement talk with a grain of salt. Every contract he’s signed since about 2012 he’s claimed would be his last.

Maybe , but there’s teams like Liverpool and Leicester City , who has inferior teams due to mismanagement, but had funds , who managed to elevate themselves . When you look at Premier League the Man City and Man U even Chelsea’s have fallen behind . Also teams like Leeds , Sunderland and Newcastle even Aston Villa were all top 6-8 teams in the late 90s ,early 00s and now either just came back up , or are still languishing in the lower leagues.Mainly due to poor list management and wastage.
The only reason the Manchester teams and Chelsea haven’t fallen into a hole is endless funds , which doesn’t look like those rivers of gold will continue anymore at that pace.

I could use Parra in the 80s, Manly in the 90s , Souths in the 70s , Dogs in the 00s and so on .

I agree that teams rise and fall over time but the idea that the best players all aspire to play for one or 2 clubs slows it down and is not in the best interests of the game.
Bottom 8 clubs can't make smart buys anymore. To get a young player with potential you have to pay overs on their current value and they may not live up to the potential. Worse, if they are as good as expected, they get a year or 2 of experience and leave before the end of their contract just when the club starts getting benefits from their gamble.

I think some players find a niche where they’re happy and performing really well. They take it for granted and chase the coin only to find that both the weight of expectation of being a marquee player plus a new coach, environment, structure and game plans are not to their liking And their career regresses. Think about Jack Bird, Anthony Milford, Adam Blair, Moylan etc. Even good old Woodsy has been on the down escalator after he left. Harry’s career is blossoming and hopefully he receives some balanced advice about his future and cash doesn’t always mean success.

But then again, there is always Teddy.....

Does anyone know if the government have passed the "Sportsman man-crush marriage clause, which will allow men to marry their favourite male athletes any time in the duration of a three month period after a sensational on-field performance" yet? If we get over the line this week I will be very close to needing to activate this clause.

(reference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=93kQwJIadlQ)

If we want Harry we need to offer him market value for a potential SOO hooker which is $600 to $700 which Storm probably cant match.(hes on a reported $95 currently). In other words dont hold back our best shot
Maybe more $$$ as you can build a club around his leadership skills which are sadly lacking in Brooks an Mbye.
Give Harry something to think about, and if hes comfortable with Madge and his plans weve got half a shot
This gets done to us often enough.

He's a fine player. **We also have a very fine hooker injured and another rated as one of the best young talents in the game. Either way, we are well served.**

We also have one of the best young. half talents in Jock Madden. As we know there is a shortage of halves in the NRL. Madden will be a good organiser and will compliment Brooks. Any suggestion of swapping him for Grant would be madness. This is no reflection on Grant who is outstanding.

They are unproven at NRL level, who knows how they will go. With Grant we already know.

Grant was unproven 6 weeks ago

Exactly, he’s a special. What I’ve seen of Liddle’s few games in first grade didn’t bring too much excitement, plus he is always injured! And he has been with us and training with us for years, Grant came in from another club at the last minute, didn’t have an off season with us and was great from the get go! Haven’t seen too many players on our books be able to do that. Sad we won’t have him once Cam retires, but that’s life.

In fairness, Liddles most recent injury came through nothing but bad luck.Every other player in the competition would have ended up in the same situation if roles were reversed.

How much of an arrogant twerp is Cronk?

Shut it Cronk you arrogant twerp, which is what I say any time his bent nose gets shown on Kayo. Shut it.

Loaned Wests Tigers hooker Harry Grant will be in the Melbourne Storm purple next year.

Storm could not be any more definitive the emerging hooker, second in the Dally M by one vote after five rounds, would return to Melbourne at season’s end.

Grant, 22, has three years left to run on a contract with Melbourne that includes an opt-out should skipper Cameron Smith play on.

But the clause has no deadline and Storm — with the rights to both Grant and Brandon Smith — isn’t obligated to act for the sake of rivals’ salary-cap decisions.

Football director Frank Ponissi laughed off the latest round of speculation around Smith’s future.

“Cameron hasn’t indicated either way … probably the Harry situation has brought the discussion on more than it would at this stage of the season, being only June.”

Storm brokered the landmark swap arrangement with Wests so Grant could play NRL in 2020.

With Smith and New Zealand hooker Brandon Smith in Craig Bellamy’s top 17, the Rockhampton export would be starved of playing time.

Should record-collector Smith play on, Storm cannot rule out an overhaul of the line-up to make room for the “very different” rakes. Grant could play hooker and Smith move into the halves.

CHOOSE GREATNESS: CRONK’S GRANT CALL ROCKS TIGERS

– Fatima Kdouh

Cooper Cronk has warned Wests Tigers rookie revelation Harry Grant that his next career move could be the difference between him becoming an NRL great or a 100-game player.

The four-time premiership winner is adamant if he hadn’t landed at a club like the Melbourne Storm, he would not have been able to build a stellar 375-game NRL career.

And that spells bad news for the Tigers, who haven’t played finals football in almost a decade.

Just five games into his rookie season, Grant’s ascension has been stunning — the hooker is outright second on the Dally M leaderboard behind North Queensland’s Jason Taumalolo after seven rounds.

Grant is on loan at Wests from Melbourne, where uncertainty remains over the future of legendary hooker Cameron Smith and whether he’ll play on again in 2021.

Harry Grant should sign with the club that has the best coach and players, according to Cooper Cronk.

According to Fox League expert commentator Cronk, if Grant is to fully reach his enormous potential, he should consider returning to the Storm even if Smith extends his record-breaking career.

“I’m happy to say on record that if I went to some other clubs I would have been a 100 or 150-gamer at best,” said Cronk, whose decorated career included four premierships with the Storm and Sydney Roosters, 38 international caps and 22 Origin appearances for Queensland.

“But because I landed at [some good clubs] particularly Melbourne Storm at first … the work ethic and the resources they gave me, I was able to achieve things I never thought were possible.

“For Harry Grant, if the situation comes up, find the club that you think is going to make you become a better person and footy player.”

Grant landed at the Tigers from Melbourne this season courtesy of a swap deal with outside back Paul Momirovski. He is contracted with the Storm until the end of 2022 and is seen as Smith’s successor, but it’s believed he can activate a get-out clause if the veteran hooker doesn’t hang up his boots.

“Frank Ponissi, the Melbourne Storm’s football director, has been quoted saying even if Cameron Smith goes around, Harry Grant will be coming back to the Storm. That’s a smart move on the Storm’s behalf,” Cronk said.

“What would my advice be to Harry Grant? He seems pretty comfortable at the Wests Tigers, he’s contributed to that team and have won a few games.

“But my advice to any young kid is, go to a club that is going to make you better than you think you can be.

“Through my career, the example that I have been a part of is good coaches, good clubs, good players can make you achieve greater things than you thought possible.”

Weighing heavily against the Tigers is the fact they haven’t played finals football since 2011. While in that time the Storm have won two premierships and three minor premierships, having not missed September football since 2010 when they played for no competition points as part of a salary cap penalty.

Grant has been a standout in the No. 9 jumper for Michael Maguire’s side. He trails Dally M leader Taumalolo (11 points) by just one point after playing just five games.

The 22-year old’s impressive performances have left Tigers fans hoping that Melbourne skipper Smith plays on beyond this season and urging their club to do whatever it takes to retain him.

But even if Smith plays on, history may be against them.

Yes he's also insulting whether our club can produce greats - whilst dismissing the accolades of RF - but he also makes mention of Harry going to a club that only improves his playing ability.
