Straight from Harry's mouth on stage tonight.

'I won't be at Melbourne next year if Cam plays on'

Even if Cam plays on we will have to contest with a couple other clubs for his signature and I don’t see us being able to throw huge amounts at him for next season.

Cameron won’t announce anything until after grand final probably

Agree. Possibly the strongest competition for his signature will come from the Titans. They’ve signalled their intentions by not re-signing Peats, and Rein hasn’t played 80 min all season.

Titans and bulldogs will chase him hard. I don’t know if we could offer the same money unless we don’t sign JAC, tough choice between the two.

i wonder if maybe Titans or Bulldogs would like Billy Walters, just thinking

he is a perfect fit for either, mainly Bulldogs who need a good 5/8 and either Titans who need a hooker

Walters is talented and can play either,
its just that im not sure where he fits in the team next year

Reserve grade. I like billy but he was never bought to be a starter every week, sure if he plays well he can push for a spot but he’s a depth player really.

Being a Qlder is probably a strong incentive in returning via a Qld-based club.
Drawback for Cows is Payton being a new coach, fairly inexperienced and the direction he wants to take them in is in it's infancy. But he might like the small-town lifestyle of a regional area.

Donkeys have the current Qld Origin coach, he probably has friends and relo's in Brisbane and the Fifita/Boyd money might lure him there.

Titans are on the way up with some good form, good signings, have the Aussie coach overseeing it all and, as someone else noted, Peats has been released.

I'd love to think he's endeared to us through his experience here and forged some strong bonds and wants to be a part of what we're building towards under Madge. Maybe he also finds the big-city life exciting and alluring.
If we're in with a chance I just hope we've got top-line coin coz he's worth it and deserves it.

Did he say he would stay at WT? I just get the feeling if Cam plays on Harry will be the no9 for Walters at the Broncos next year.

Didnt allude to staying, but I get the sense he's happy being at our club.

Actually spoke to him in person after the event. Such is the character of the kid he came up and introduced himself (Very humble dude). Wasnt cagey, just genuinely didnt know what he was doing.

I told him there's an entire fan base that would love him to stay.

Nah .....Bellamy goes to Brisbane ...Cam goes to Brisbane ....Cam becomes coach in 2023 with Bellyache as his mentor

bellyache and Cam were slated to be the star recruits for the bombers if the got the nod 4 years ago.. Signed contracts and all.

It's obviously too late now, but wouldn't surprise me if storm CEO, coach and captain all end up in BRISBANE. next year. One quick way to turn the club around.

Way i look at it is
Cam smith is playing just a good, would probably love to retire/go out with Bellamy which is 2022.
However now they have 2 class player's saying we will leave if he doesn't retire for 2021.

Probably why it's taking so long, if H Grant/ B Smith weren't around i bet he had already announce he would be playing on.

Hope they give him that year, B Smith stays and H Grant ends up with us!

If Cam retires, Harry seems the kind of kid that would go back regardless of whether he wanted to stay because that was the 'deal'

Chuck Harry 10mil for 10 years and he will make noises..lol keep him here at all costs

Clubs play us dirty, time we do the same

If he’s there, I’m not: Harry Grant drops Cameron Smith bombshell at Tigers dinner

Tigers rookie of the year Harry Grant has dropped a bombshell at the club’s awards night on Wednesday by declaring if Cameron Smith plays on with Melbourne the young gun hooker will not return to the Storm.

Tigers coaching staff, players, officials and members were left blindsided when Grant made the statement on stage while collecting the Wests Tigers rookie of the year award.

The Tigers held the club’s annual Kelly Barnes awards night at the Waterview function centre at Bicentennial Park where winger David Nofoaluma was crowned the club’s player of the year.

Grant made the statement on stage in front of 300 guests.

Loaned to the Wests Tigers for this season only by the Melbourne Storm, the Storm have been adamant for the past four months Grant was always destined to return to the club.

Crucially, the emerging dummy-half has a get out clause in his contract should champion no.9 Smith decide to play on again next season.

Smith did an interview in July where he stated he was three weeks away from making a decision about his playing future.

It’s now 11 weeks and counting and the Storm captain is sticking to his line about being no closer to having made a decision.

In an interview earlier this week, the former Kangaroos and Queensland captain said he could not see himself playing for any other coach aside from Craig Bellamy.

Smith also stated neither Storm stars Harry Grant or Brandon Smith had put any pressure on him about making a decision in regards to playing on.

PK: Smith 'lives in a bubble'PK: Smith 'lives in a bubble'2:30

Brandon Smith’s manager sent an email to the Melbourne Storm two months ago informing the club if Cameron Smith played on then the Kiwi hooker would most likely ask for a release.

Grant, 22, has now indicated the same and has the necessary get out clause in his contract to allow him to walk away from Melbourne.

The Tigers would love to accommodate Grant next season and have the salary cap wiggle room to do so.

But the young gun no.9 gave no clue as to what NRL club he might end up with in the event Smith plays on.

The Storm maintain they have a plan if Smith decides to play on and if he decides to retire.

There is a theory the champion no.9 is waiting to see how far Melbourne go in the finals.

If the Storm won another premiership, perhaps Smith would opt to retire.

If they get thrown on tilt like during last year’s finals series and fail to make the grand final - the greatest dummy-half in history may decide to play on.

I certainly wouldn't be against it. But if we can't even find slightly higher than minimum wage for McIntyre, I don't know how we could afford that.

I do think it's either Storm or us for Harry, depending on what Smith does. I can't see him going to a different club, though it'd probably be the smart move career wise.

Imagine the kid in the Roosters system (yuck), barring injury, he would be set for life.

Surprised by Harry's comments.

Wild theory, both Bellamy and Smith to Broncos for 2021.

More concerning is "club were blindsided" certainly hope this is media jargon. Hope we have been doing all we can in the background

Blind sided as in we didn't know he was going to say what he did publicly

Good god. Just when I had already moved on, Harry drops that bombshell. It's like being on-and-off with a partner you really liked, but there was something which made your relationship not work.

Now begins the next crazy 6 weeks where we have to sweat.

He will definitely be missed. Come on Cam go around for another year.

Harry’s gone either way.

Well if Bellamy didn’t know when they interviewed him last time not sure how you would know.

Our club must know as they farewelled him yesterday.

Well looks they didn’t know , after his comments. Or as everyone has predicted he won’t be there if cam is there
