Jackson Hastings #251

Conveniently forgetting the number of top 30 players missing large chunks of the season with injury and the coach getting knifed had any impact on results?

Of course he is forgetting because it goes against reality of the situation. Funny how he and the cult believe that Brooks failing for 8+ years isn’t his fault but Hastings, who played a chunk of the season injured before the Broncos injury, played with a roster decimated by injuries, had his coach sacked half way through the season and then Sheens decided to tank the rest, deserves the blame.

Got to love the consistency of the cult 😂

Wah wah wah. I wanted to hold him
to his contract too but guess what?
He's gone brother. No point going
in circles, I can assure you the club
and everyone involved has moved on,
I humbly suggest forum members do
too for their own sake. Let's see
how Brooks goes with this pack

I get you mate, but it's pretty difficult after years of seeing the club let good players go whilst keeping one of the biggest anchors of the team.

If he is as good as his cult believes, he should dominate behind this pack and I hope he does. History suggests its not likely.

and the player in question missing with injury himself too. When Hastings was out we were clearly a shambles, when he was in we had results against some of the NRL's stronger teams.

There is no question that Hastings is a better half than Brooks, and he was on less money. Brooks should have been walked to Newcastle at gunpoint by our coach.

But I guess we just have to trust in the wisdom of a coach we have sacked previously for being shithouse, who then went to England where he was shithouse again.

You can see what you want or choose to see.

I see Sheens, Benji and possibly Robbie as well, that also viewed Hastings as other than WT best halfback and along with getting Klemmer, that is why he is no longer here. Don't think that is up for argument.

I would have kept him on as a ball distributor and back-up in the halves, whilst they chose let him go immediately.
It all seems a little odd to me?
I really don’t know what to make of it?
I do think both players, while being next to the best in their respective teams, were on the outer at their clubs for some reason.

Hastings was the Knights' Plan B for 7. Brooks was the Knights' Plan A. You don't believe the decision makers at WTs so perhaps you may believe the decision makers at another NRL club.
I love how when Brooks'salary comes up, you bang on about the media making stuff up etc etc, but when it's the other way around and suits your agenda it's fact. How do you know Brooks was the Knights plan A? I live in Newcastle and the whole town is stoked that they got Hastings and not Brooks.

The team the year before didn't go as poorly,
And had much the same squad - With the addition of Hastings.
He was our big in for 22 and we went worse... Than we've ever gone.

Where's the speculation in that?
I speculate the average team on the park was heaps worse than the year before taking injuries and suspensions into account.

Especially as Hastings himself missed a large chunk of the year. I’d speculate we wouldn’t have got the spoon if he played the whole season.

How is it that a player can win awards like DallyM and Kelly Barnes Medal, in fact the most Kelly Barnes Medals of any player in the entire history of Wests Tigers, and yet still be such a failure?
This is the enigma behind the legend and probably why Brooks has such a huge following.

The 2022 results are the own goal of the club’s administrators.
It’s just plain wrong to single out a particular person in the playing group to shoulder the spoon performance.

The Kelly Barnes one is interesting for me. When Brooks got it in 2021 and it caused us to again be a laughing stock in the media, it was voted for by Madge, Hartigan and a board member. Those guys also would be trying to give Luke confidence for the following season etc and could have used the award for ulterior motives. Also being voted on by the coach means that whoever is the biggest brown noser could be getting the award, seems that Brown nosing is how Brooks has survived all these years

I found it interesting that in 2021 that Brooks didn't finish in the top 5 in the players player votes despite having played every game

Interesting.
Brooks is a likeable kinda guy, but doubt he would be a brown noser?
Looks like the sort of person who's just trying to fit in with the team?
I think Stapelton was the third judge?

Brooks appears to be more of an edge runner of the footy. He can create out there and did a good job. Hastings was much better in my opinion organizing in the middle.

I would have had Hastings at 7 and I think Doueihi at 6. I think Doueihi is a better edge runner than Brooks.

The issue is money comes into the picture as well and Hastings and Doueihi both appear to want big bucks. I know Brooks is reportedly on a good salary but he won't get that once his current contract is over.
Are you serious Earl, I would have to put the tv on fast forward, when they got the ball they were so slow. It would never reach the backline,.

How many did we start with?
Only 1, Brooks , then we bought a fullback that was not great at fb, moved into 5/8, that was the same result, then bought a i/2 who played in a slow super league, signed him as lock, and because our fullback turned 5/8 was slow and a bit of a ball hog, played hastings in the halves. He tried hard, but was too slow. We have since been trying to buy a good half or 5/8. I doubt it will be just one but 2 halves we will be shopping for, but time will tell.

I think Hastings is a better 7 than Brooks and Doueihi is a better 6 than Brooks. It's not my decision though and even though it sounds crazy maybe the coaching staff know better than me.

Brooks isn't a halfback. 9 years of trash proves it
