We are looking at a Brooks Hastings partnership.

So if Doueihi stays at centre, surely between Gilardt, Roberts, AJ, Cini, and Talau we have *somebody * who can lock down the other centre position.

Hopefully Gildart is the answer and Nofo comes good or goes (which is won’t happen).

As long as brooksy can handle someone wanting to actually lead the team around it should work alright

Hastings is everything we could do with minus the one Tangible that we need; Speed.
It’s got me thinking, as far as how the good teams recruit go; the one Tangible they don’t compromise is speed.
Just about everyone of the players in the top 4 teams are quick in a relative perspective to their on field position.
Take Melbourne’s latest roster change for 2022. Nicko Hines out and Nick Meany in. You could argue that Meany is even quicker than him.

It just got me thinking when watching this latest game and some of the noticeable areas when Hastings didn’t have the speed to compete and how he hadn’t managed to lock down a starting position at either Manly or Sydney before heading to England. He clearly has a good sense of awareness both in attack and defence but he misses a yard of pace to be a threat.

Hastings very impressive at 5/8 - very vocal and barking orders, kicked well and solid in defence

Solid in defence ? Do you think so ?

The England second rower Farrell ran past him to score his first try (Hastings looked like he was jogging next to him) then Farrell isolated Hasting on the try line for his second try; Hastings took him low on the line and Farrell planted the ball for an easy try.

Hastings looks slow (outrun by a back rower) and didn't go high on the back rower on the line.

Farrell probably would have scored both tries anyway, but I don't think Hastings distinguished himself attempting to stop them.

Gee, I must have had rose coloured glasses on because my take was Hastings showed the leadership and kicking game that Brooks has been unable to achieve over 8 years ... I think he will be 5/8th here at the Tigers because Brooks has the speed but Hastings shows the control that we need ... they should combine well together in the halves- especially now that Doughe has transitioned well into the centres.

I was thinking his defence is not up to it

He did, played the other week for Wigan. Was his first game of the year and grabbed a double.

Plenty of Wigan players were "injured" for this game.

We don't need Hastings for his speed we need him for his leadership and talk on the field.. Every game I have watched him he is basically a coach out there and doesn't mind switching side of the field either. I think he will be a great signing for us.

Hastings has good pass selection. Bring sheens back as coach

What has one what got to do with the other? Both are coming, but don’t get too disappointed.

As others have mentioned his passing is very crisp, and probably his best attribute. No he’s not a going to run the 100m in 11 seconds, but neither will Cleary and he’s doing okay.

Sheens was coaching the all star game.
