If Hastings is our 7 for the entirety of 2022 ....get ready for the spoon ...be prepared

You can say the same about Brooks to be fair, he's awful.

There both garbage ....Brooks slightly better

Based off this year not sure... Brooks was abysmal. Least Hastings is having a crack. Guess we will find out next year

Its pretty crazy how long we've stuck with Brooks. Can't imagine any other club giving such time.

Just funny how many were on brooks coat tails when he was playing well and we won a few games ...and when the side fell off a cliff ...yes he back end has been bad ......Hastings will be absolute garbage when he gets back into the NRL ...he lacks that yard of pace to penetrate ......

People are way too blinded seeing him run around in a Mickey Mouse competition. George Williams dominated over there, came here and was average at best.

Don’t know if Hastings is the answer. Haven’t seen him play since he left AUS. One thing for sure is Brooks is 110% not the answer

Half should be a leader - Brooks is not
Senior player should be a leader - Brooks is not
Perform under pressure - Brooks can not
Modelling for the younger fellas - Brooks does not

Too timid. Simply cannot manufacture a leader out of Brooks. Our young team would naturally look to him, his lack of confidence and modelling for the youth is hindering any progress.

Over the last few weeks when Luke Brooks has been captain and needed to speak up on behalf of his team he never did.

There were even times Luch was yelling at Brooks to come across and talk to the ref to support the team, the ref talked to him and he didn't say a word.

For me.. that was my point that I never want him to play in our team.. he needed to step up and never did.

Thats the issue, he just looks and plays like he doesnt care.
As long as he makes HIS tackles and completes HIS sets thats all he seems to care about.

Lacks leadership and has never really bought in to the culture changes.

I strongly disagree with this, as until he was given the captaincy there was little wrong with Brooks this year. He was showing much improvement in certain areas, in which I admit he has regressed in since then (getting the captaincy).

The speculation about him leading a player mutiny has surfaced today and so has continued criticism of his leadership ability. His inability to step up now means he's toxic, despite it being fairly obvious that he hasn't got this in him.
Who honestly believed he has the best traits to be the team's leader?

No offence but because our recruitment and retention has basically failed over a significant period - with no change on the near horizon - some are only looking for someone to blame in what has been a poor year for the team.
The only toxicity I've recently seen was from our club leaders in placing all performance related issues onto Madge. Plus learning that the unhealthy obsession with blaming Brooks has amplified and resulted in him copping all sorts of abuse at a game.

I can honestly understand how the pressure may be getting to him and its why I welcome the signing of someone like Hastings - as he could be the person that demands the best of everyone around him, including Brooks.
I believe there's room for both and my position on retaining Brooks is purely for the benefit of the team and I don't wish us to be disadvantaged in any way. Especially with Doueihi out with injury.

Well we can compare him against two former Wests Tigers halves playing in that same comp, who are known entities in terms of what they can do in the NRL - Josh Reynolds and Robert Lui. Hastings has *definitely* played better than those two.

Is that saying much? Reynolds has been a non factor since his time at the Dogs.

yeah not saying it proves he'll be great, but I think it is a fair basis for comparison.

Sorry but I've had the exact same opinion of Brooks for a number of years.

Captaincy only pointed out to those on the fence about him what I already knew.

I have been a Brooks supporter up until watching last weeks game live vs the Bulldogs. I think it just proved in my mind that he isn't the right person. Oh, I think he has the talent, that is not in doubt, but his level of frustration in the last 10 minutes was so obvious it wasn't funny.

When the ball wasn't going to him, he was slapping his thighs and waving his arms, he had the $hit$ no two ways. I have no doubt he was trying.....

But I have come to the realisation that he can't run the team when he has things his way, and he, more importantly, can't make the best of what he has at his disposal. Sometimes you are surrounded by garbage and you have to do the best with it. He just seems to play the same plan and doesn't adapt.

For his well being, I'd like to see him kick on elsewhere. And for our well being, its better if he moves on and we can pick on someone else.

And I absolutely believe our biggest (and potentially only) problem we have is a lack of leadership and accountability to each other, and Brooks doesn't contribute to that in any way, shape or form. Sorry.

Even when the team is performing well as a whole he still lacks the killer instinct to keep the foot down and the pressure on, and off the back of line breaks for example his decision making and vision is poor as he usually cuts back against the grain instead of spreading the ball wide across the field like every other team does

Well he got on the field over there. So it's an improvement from the last few years

Hate myself for saying it, but we need to look at Brooks when he isnt trying to be in control...

He doesnt have it in him to organise, that is proven, but the games when he lost a halves partner he has gone pretty well. Its as if he falls apart under the pressures of delegation, yet once it is all on him he seems to lift.

Coming up with Moses, Brooks was wearing the 7, but the slimey little turd had it all over him for chatter and directing the game. Moses was running things and Brooks merely first receiver. Brooks has skill, he can play the game, controlling the game may be past him.

He is almost the anti Benji... remember the yrs of Benji trying to run things. Prince could control him, Lui could also play with him, but the rest wilted. Benji at 7 was a disaster. Im starting to think Brooks is just the polar opposite, tried to make into the player to run the game, when we needed someone to run him.

I'm disappointed, I came in here thinking this was some kind of charity boxing match or UFC-style Octagon showdown during this offseason.

Agree, it's funny (not really) but when Mbye was captain, I don't think he said boo either?
Can only hope Hastings is the answer?

An octogon has 8 sides. Just like NRL finals.

Once old mate heard that he pulled out of the event as he knew couldn't qualify.

Brooks has good skills and his defence is strong.

He fundamentally lacks descission making ability in the game.

What skills exactly?

I'm not Brookes hater but he's for whatever reason is entrenched in a pattern of plays that don't work for us.
For both the club's and his sake he needs to move on.I actually think he will do really well in another, stronger club environment (that hurt writing this).

The reason is simple... you watch it every week... he does not have it..
