Have you been vaccinated?

After reading the house party thread and the nic cotric thread I'm starting to wonder if they are giving certain people heroin instead of the covid jab in nsw

That's actually genius haha, get it done at Bunnings and get a snag. We'd be fully vaccinated already

I think it depends on location. I chose RPA and got it next day.

I have not....

My work has advised it MAY become mandatory however waiting on the advice from government.

Work in mental health / community services.

I'm not an anti vaxer, never had a flu shot though and rarely get sick.

I'd be happy to roll the dice and go without but if I don't have a choice, then I'll have to be getting it..

Not how it works mate.

Vaccination does 3 things:
(1) reduces your chance of getting COVID
(2) reduces your chance of getting seriously ill from COVID
(3) reduces the chance you pass COVID onto someone else

So maybe you can roll the dice yourself and there's good odds you'd be OK. However the odds aren't THAT good - 10% of delta variants in the current outbreak are being hospitalised, and 2.5% ending up in ICU.

So potentially 1/10 chance you end up in hospital, if you get it.

But if you do get it, because it's so contagious (they are saying R = 5), you are likely to give it to 5 other people - elderly relatives, friends, other family, co-workers. So likely to infect at least 5 others, and the govt is seeing entire households getting infected every time there's one seeding source.

The more COVID there is in the community, the more chance of (a) mutations, and (b) giving it even to vaccinated people.

Think of vaccinations like a game of chance - if you are vaccinated and exposed to COVID a handful of times you have pretty good odds of not getting it. However if you expose yourself repeatedly and consistently to high doses, your risk increases. That's true of any disease - if you walk past someone with common cold you are a decent chance of not getting ill, but if they cough in your mouth 20 times you are very high risk. I'm being silly of course, but that's how the risk changes over time.

Best result, forget business, travel, economy... best result is everyone gets vaccinated, everyone has a very low chance of getting COVID, COVID stays very low in the community because everyone is resistant.

If you can please trust me on one thing, it's this - I am a drug development professional by trade, I've been doing it for 20 years.

. . . . Jirskyr, as a drug developer, I have a question for you. This probably isn't the best place to ask, but what the heck. I'll deal with the outfall . . . . so as a drug developer, you have been used to any new drug/treatment over the past 20+ years needing 8-10+ years of development, refinement and trials before it is "ready for the public". From memory, ( and I'm just a punter, not a drug developer), every single new drug you heard about on the news was some breakthrough for a university research team, and every single one would be available to the public in 8 or 10 years time. I don't recall even one that was ready in 2 years.
This jab was super fast-tracked, without the benefit of time to fully expose any problems with it.
What do you, as the professional, say ?
And to the rest of you, who aren't drug developers, happy to listen to rational and polite discussion. But I know how it will go.

Second shot felt a bit sick for a few days but glad I have had it

Sick in what way Jedi?

I was lethargic and had no energy at all for like 2 days with headaches
My wife is a nurse and about 30 of her colleagues couldn't attend next shift following the second vaccination.
However I know others who have had it and fine they say 50 % can have mild issues but if what I felt is even a little bit of covid then I am glad I have had the vaccination
I dont want to deter anyone from getting the vaccination though as I was only really tired and sick for 2 days then all good

I was pretty crook for 4 days after my second jab, but well worth it.

Did you get jabbed at Nepean ?

Had my second and final shot of Pfizer last Thursday had no issues whatsoever with either dose other then a bit of a sore arm.

Got both Pfizer jabs in the first rollout. Headache from the first shot and felt tired for a day after the second shot.
