Chicken wings arent usually committed while the players still on his feet and mobile, theyre an attempt to slow the PTB….imo he was merely trying to get past a fend to get to his torso to complete a tackle

How is Keating playing though?

Surely u dont think Keating should have been suspended? If u look at it in fast motion, i dont see how anyone could think he deliberately did a "chicken wing".

I wouldnt say he did it delibrately and he had help in the tackle but he didnt let go of the arm and he did twist on it a touch.Ive seen players done for less and hannatt did end up injured after the tackle as well.

Consistency with those things would be nice.

The NRL should be ashamed. Sorry Hayne apologists. but the try had been scored, he could have jumped over him just as the Broncos jumped over prone Storm players last night. Hayne has a bit of form (at least 2 elbows to heads), but because he's such a spectacular player he keeps on getting off.

Always knew Hayne would get off…I thought leading with the knees was illegal?..Gibbs did and got suspended Hayne the darling of the NRL does it and gets a slap on the wrist...any other week bar the G/F and he gets 2-4 weeks...Oh well just like the rorters this is very sus.

Also interesting to see in that picture that Grothe was diving feet first as well, trying to knock Goodwin's legs into touch. Was anything mentioned about this?

The only photo I've been able to find online is this one from before contact was made. Not very helpful…

Oh yeah, I had to chuckle too when I heard Luke Burt on the radio saying that Hayne should be let off. Why do they even bother getting these sorts of comments from people who are obviously biased. Would you ever find a parra player or official who reckoned he should be suspended???

Maybe, but I don't think that he even attempted to tackle Goodwin, and I'm not even sure that he can tackle anyway. One thing though ,I'm pretty sure that we're going to find out whether he can (or can't) on Sunday!

If you commit to a _tackle your arms or shoulders are vaguely going towards the man. If you commit to going for the ball, your arms/ shoulders are going vaguely towards the ball.
If you're just sliding in knees first with arms/ shoulders leaning back then you've committed to nothing even approaching legal.
At least Gibbs' upper body was leaning towards Burt._

I would have to agree. Imagine that was Gibbs last week who hit a bloke in the head with a knee. Would he be suspended for the Grand Final? I would think yes. Had the Storm missed out on the GF this year, I think they would have been screaming from the rooftops about those decisions on Sunday after what happened to Cameron Smith last year.

had melbourne missed the final i believe hayne would have missed aswell…. but from a money stand point they cant afford to have hayne and slater not play against each other, yea its stupid and a poor reason not to suspend someone but in the end its going to make the game better to watch... which basically means people should just get over it now, complainig about the inconsistancy isn't going to change the decision

Yeah Rorko, I know that you're being sensible and realistic, and we will get over it eventually, but wouldn't some consistency be nice? I guess if you're a supporter of one of the teams that do get the 50-50 calls or those amazing "benefit of the doubt" decisions ( and I know that you're not) you wouldn't care. But as we're not, we do care and maybe if we all winge and complain someone in the NRL might take some notice and do something about it. Then again, pigs might fly too.

i think the last time newcastle got a bad decision that helped us was against the tigers from that last second brian carney try a few years back….. but yea when it comes down to it they wont do anything money talks and thats basically how they working it after the year the game has been through.

Maybe if there hadn't been so many off field drama's all year they may have suspended him but cause of the 10% of footballers who take what they have for granted and stuff up all the time, The nrl needed a great way to end the year. Good luck to hayne great to see him living up to his potential and i believe that the knees weren't intentional and he basically made the wrong desicion and its lucky that goodwin was hurt that badly, bascically same as patten
