HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Look other then Batboy and some others.

Do we really still 'fight' about this in forum land?

I really feel Denis and about 8 old men are fighting. .. That's about it.

Sure a few people are bating here. I think most members are really passed this so called Balmain vs Magpies thing.
I agree with this but it only takes a few individuals to reignite the acrimony and dissension. As long as that level of dissension exists, the Wests Tigers will continue to flounder. It appears that some board members know this and are happy to encourage it for their own sad reasons.
There are a couple of posters on this forum that agree with that aim. It would not surprise me if they are very closely aligned with the board.
I agree with others that Vlandys, or someone capable of taking this further, needs to have an in depth look at Wests Tigers governance and intervene. The evidence is pretty clear, WT have gone from making gains with an independent board, to taking two steps back as a result of an ownership action that is yet to be explained.
To me it is clear, the current ownership either does not have the best interests of Wests Tigers as their guiding principle or are incompetent. It is as simple as that, and is what the NRL or other body needs to look at and change. Otherwise we will remain as also-rans and a feeder club for organisations that have competent and committed leadership.

HBG, as ultimate owners, are 100% entitled to replace the Board of Directors at any time that they want, for what ever reason that they want. Point of fact, they don't have to give a reason. They can just call an Extraordinary General Meeting and, viola, it is done.

That being said, in the real world of business, such events are usually only reserved for malfeasance by the Board being sacked. Sacking a Board on a whim just doesn't happen in the world of business.
So the question to be asked is: what malfeasance was conducted by the sacked Board?

By any reasonable measure, the sacked Board was doing a good job. On field results improved, membership up, profitability returned. All in twelve months.

In the real world of business, such Boards are not sacked, they are rewarded.

Compare that to the results of the previous HBG dominated Board over the last decade.

I just want a single logical reason as too why HBG have acted in the way that they have. Just one.

In the absence of such a logical reason, I can only question the motives of HBG in essentially throwing a hand grenade into season 2026.

It is said that the definition of madness is doing the same thing over and over, yet expecting a different outcome.

I had thought that HBG proved to us fans that they weren't mad when they appointed an independent review of our corporate governance, found it was wanting, and changed course by appointing an independent Board. Clearly that would appear to be an error of judgement on my part.

I think I might drop a lazy $100 at $8 on the Tigers to get the 2026 spoon. I expect the odds will shorten shortly.
Well, we are back to where we were, sans Richardson.

I hope the brand reputational damage was worth it HBG.

It’s not even just the reputational damage either. We’re in a such worse position than we were prior to this whole saga.

HBG can now branch stack the Wests Tigers board and they’ve proven themselves completely incompetent at running an NRL club.

We’ve lost Viola and Richo, HBG made a knee jerk decision to extend Benji so we’re locked into a long term deal. The leak about Brad Arthur obviously upset some of the playing group and now fans are turning their back on memberships, maybe boycotting games and merch sales.

It’s a worse of position to be in financially and in terms of reputation than two weeks ago.

The NRL needs a better implementation authority in the SW. A WTs with new ownership under BOF and independent directors, plus our new CEO. With 54,000 new households and the new airport metropolis WTs has a strong case for funding assistance from State and Federal authorities as well as from the private sector. Goals -

Winning

Increased participation of girls and boys in SW

Maintain and improve traditional areas

Continue on the good work of WTs being profitable.

Increase pay and free to air viewing audience

New stadium for WTs (one ground) with facilities for other sports and entertainment in growth area. New stadium at Camden, Narellan, Oran Park or near airport with links to planned rail.

Seek additional funding for a more extensive junior development officer network, programmes and recruitment staff
Work to make the new stadium the heart of RL in Australia with GF played in SW.
Didn't even think of the new airport area - good call out. If they are planning significant residental, I'd say the panthers and dogs would both be sniffing around there too.

The NRL has to take charge by recalling the license and establishing a WTs' club which best delivers RL, TV, Sponsorship and new stadium to that area. BOF with his connection to Govt, business and the community plus and a board of independents (free of any past allegiances) would be ideal. Let's hope PVL agrees.

Respectfully mate that ain’t gonna happen, but I see where you’re coming from. PVL isn’t gonna take away the license anytime soon if he was he would’ve done it by now. With HBG locking in as majority on the board again the south west is probably gonna get ignored again. It was Richo pushing for the south west and a lot of the people on the HBG board from what I’ve heard hated the fact that they moved to Campbelltown to try and stay alive. The south west plan will be nowhere near as it was now that Richo is gone.
