HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

This is a strange stance to take me on it. It seems more logical that they need to prove what they said is true, not everyone has to prove what they said is incorrect. You have it back to front. The events afterwards indicate that what they said isnt true. Yet you take the unusual stance that people can say whatever they like and unless everyone else can prove them wrong then it must be taken as true....thats a strange way to live, but your choice I guess.
Thank you for the way you respond.

To explain- as the 'majority owner' (for whatever term you want to give HBG) they are similar to a business owner.

Decisions come from above that do not get explained to an employee. Notification is made, people move on.

HBG made a statement. We can certainly question it. But for mine- they have not been proven wrong. Yet.

This MIGHT change in the future. Everyone hangs HBG now.

My opinion- the truth & success of their decision will come from the result of it. They might set up a brilliant new Wests Tigers board. Mielekamp might be 100 times the CEO Richardson was.

Or it might all go to Hell- and then they can reap the results of their decisions.

We simply do not know enough of the truth of the reasoning to decide that yet.

So basically their response is, we blew up the club and got it wrong and won't be saying anything about it for another 2 months.

That is the exact behaviour people want to see the back of. There is zero accountability for their actions.
That's one way to look at it.

Another way is- they made a decision, and when they settle on how to rectify things going forward- they'll tell us.

Patience is a virtue. 😀

The decision Giving Benji reign of senior recruitment has to worry you surely

I'm not sure if 'worry' is the right word.

It seems premature. Again- it's one of those decisions that time will show if it's genius or lunacy. Thing is, if it fails, HBG will have to front the cash to pay him out- so it really affects them most.

Also- I like Benji. So I might be biased.

I love benji, but being a Head Coach and being responsible for recruitment seems like cutting corners to me. Need smart people in recruitment and roster planning.
Fulton for his faults, brought in Latu & Samuela who feature in our 1-17 every week while Benji recruited Bud.

Fair call- Benji's initial recruitment drive was hit & miss.

Seems players WANT to buy into what he's selling, which is a bonus.

I think Meilekamp is the crucial piece. I have liked everything he's done in the past & has no real baggage to carry. Smart business hire getting him into the club & could form a dynamic team with Benji's popularity.

I dont go along the "business" line. For me thats an easy direction to take to excuse poor behaviour and bad decision making. In my opinion, while football clubs may be a business, they are widely regarded as much more and therefore have different expectations on how they are expected to act and engage with supporters/shareholers. This has been a universal acceptance since the beginning of Rugby League. They are not an ordinary business

Football clubs are dual purpose though.

If it was a decision on a player or coach- something fans are directly invested in- then I think supporters deserve more information.

But business decisions like board members & the hiring/firing of staff- I couldn't even describe what 90% of our board look like or give you a glimpse of their history.

That's the business side of the club- with decisions made on a level that fans/supporters are never fully aware of.

Sleep is vital to maintaining good health 👍
It's gone beyond amusing though hasn't it?
I guarantee you would never have supported the boardroom fiasco's if the shoe was on the other foot.
Blind loyalty is great when you are flying high but in a professional sporting competition "the people" - under the organizations selection process- fail the club and it's progress and have done so consistently - much to the
delight of our competition.

This is a fair bit different as there was a fan push to make changes to the board which lead to the review. So this is something fans are invested in on this occasion due to years of failure under HBG leadership.

Except removing directors isn't new to them. They just had to reach a settlement with a director they removed from their own board.

Funny enough, I just had one of our directors come introduce themselves to me at a basketball tournament my daughter is playing in. I wouldn't have recognised them if they didn't tell me lol

Slightly off topic mate sorry just wondering if in your interactions with Shaun or the club in general they are aware of the lack of content with things like pathways etc. is it something they’ve mentioned they’re working on ?

To a degree.

I work for a company that has many, many layers.

We are quite often asked, as employees, for suggestions on how things could be improved.

Now- the directors CAN take those suggestions & implement them. Or they can ignore them.

But what they do with those suggestions, how they are introduced, how long they are introduced, what they consider to be a success.... that is out of the employees hands.

Point being- HBG/Wests Tigers board listened to the fans (employees) & implemented their suggestion.

That is where that interaction stops, as far as the fan involvement goes. What happens from there is in the hands of the directors.

It was pretty impressive that they listened to the fans in the first place, probably to the detriment of some making the decisions.

So can I ask why they felt the need to engage with a video statement then? I could see your point of they had not said a word all along, but I cant agree with your angle due to the fact they felt compelled to explain their actions, but not compelled to explain why they were forced to change those actions. Im sorry, but I just cant your point.

Laundy would be all about making money and getting results , his pubs are all pretty good I hear so must have some good support around him , he would be a complete different owner than HBG , he would want his Wests Tigers to be at the top and competitive , and I doubt he would want to dump the magpies , big strong club with huge junior base is where he would be going , he may run West tigers name in both nrl and reserves but there is probably 50% of our supporters who would be ok with that
Running our club to make money may lead an owner to make decisions that fans may not like though.
Stadium decisions to begin with but possibly the state cup team aswell. At the moment HBG fund the state cup team. Would a new owner be happy with that arrangement or would they want to change the name of the team but also pay for it? I wouldn't put my money into my pocket just for the sake of the name of our feeder club. Some one else can play for that grade

I haven't discussed but will raise it with them next opportunity I get.
