HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

No . . . I'd say not.
The sentiment here has been so one sided, it's really quite pathetic. That's what I'm saying.
From a group of people on here that will say how fair they are, and how there is no longer Wests and Balmain.
But as Chad and I said, the fact that Balmain isn't here takes away so much from a balanced joint venture. If, for instance, Wests had exploded themselves, and Balmain were kind enough to pay their debts, surely you'd see we'd be in the same situation . . . except that the Wests side would be screaming about how small the magpie is on the jerseys, or how the jersey is largely orange colour.
To be honest, I'd rather see what Chad suggested . . . someone funds Balmain to start up again . . . that way we'd hopefully have the balanced board and proper decision making.
Two sets of minds and views, hopefully aimed in the same direction.
But they'd need to totally avoid any person who was originally involved in Balmain's demise, and any ex players that profited from said demise.

I struggle to get my head around how people still see this as a joint venture. We have really done things wrong if after 25 years thats still the narrative. How we have continually failed to establish this club as purely Wests Tigers is ludicrous, pathetic, shameful, inept, embarrassing and borderline corrupt.

Just give me a powerful Wests Tigers. People can shove their Balmain and Magpies up their......... for all I care.

I think I remember Jackson Hastings paying his own way to QLD when he was injured because WT wouldn’t allow any extras to go due to cost. 🤦‍♂️
Yep wests tigers are well funded by HBG compared to other clubs.🤔

reports that the Dogs will have to pay $15,000 to cover the costs of the extra two additional players.

“We'll take 24, mainly to help with our training, and it will allow us to get as close to 13-on-13 while we're over there,” Ciraldo told SMH.

The lack of a balmain helps us move on from the past. It would take us backwards.

More of the same minds and skills does not help us. We need BETTER minds and faster movers, unemcumbered by the past. Up till Dec, thats what we had.

HBG has failed to stay the course of any decision they have made over the last 10 years during their control. HBG’s directions change as much as the HBG/Wests Tigers boards (thru sackings/payouts)
The only true course adherence for HBG power brokers is the holy grail 🤔
Not true.

HBG have continued to fund Wests Ashfield, Balmain juniors, Wests Tigers...

Their commitment, regardless of success, shouldn't really be questioned.

You are right, all this does is solve a legacy problem. It does nothing to help the wests tigers become a club challenging to be one of the best in the NRL.

Isnt investing in juniors just part of what they should be doing as 90% owners of the wests tigers football club? So why does it keep coming up like they are doing favours? They should be doing it because they want the WESTS TIGERS to succeed.

I don't see a reason a powerful Wests Tigers can't be made up by the foundations of two well funded 'feeder clubs/joint venture clubs' in Wests Magpies & Balmain.

Whoever is put on a Wests Tigers board should have the good of both JV clubs, and Wests Tigers, as the agenda.

The whole idea of the merger, the joint venture, wasn't to eradicate two clubs. It was to SAVE them.

Manly & Norths stuffed it up. St George swallowed Illawarra.

I want our JV to be the shining light on how it SHOULD work.

I'm a long term Balmain Tigers fan. I don't want to see that club obliterated.

But I'm ALSO a Wests Tigers fan- and that is the future.

You can still focus on a future while incorporating the past.

And Wests Ashfield/HBG should be a good guide to any potential investor into a Balmain club. Money can be made in these clubs. It's an investment opportunity.

Remember- Laundy is a Balmain fan.

Triggeboff is a Balmain fan.

Why not sell the idea of hotel sites, clubs, pubs under a Balmain brand, with a 50% share of Wests Tigers, board room positions, an NRL licence...

How many NRL teams are up for sale? If a rich investor wanted in to the NRL- is there an easier path than through Balmain Tigers?

What about....a crowd funded buy-out of Balmain Tigers? Fan owned. You want to be a part of Wests Tigers? Board positions?

I am absolutely NOT advocating the return of failed Balmain board members. Whoever takes that over needs to be smart & full of ideas.

I'm 100% behind an actual JV though.

They should absolutely be funding their own. The post said they haven't stayed the course in 10 years on anything. They have no obligation to fund Balmain, for example.

All I'm saying is- if you want to stick knives in them for the failings, what they have done should also be acknowledged.

Would HBG put their 40% on the market or are they happy to keep 90%. From the outside it seems they like control.

Worth asking the question. A few pages back people were asking if HBG could be bought out. Chances are, there's a value they would look at to cede 40% & total control.

Instead of thinking of them as nefarious owners- it's ALSO possible they did in fact buy out Balmain's problems to indeed keep the dream alive.

They are a leagues club mate. It's their whole reason for existing. It's not like the directors are giving their own money away; they're giving away yours and mine. The community spend money there knowing it will go back to the community.

I agree it shouldn't be questioned. They put in a lot of juniors. But it shouldn't be a cause for back patting either.

It would be interesting to know. I’m sure the club has some high profile fans who are well resourced and ready to improve our lot.

Just a fair argument is all.

People want to paint HBG as evil. (Not intended to point out anyone in particular). I don't see it. Self interested? Probably. But find me any business that isn't.

They could have punted the Balmain half. Manly did it. Illawarra basically was obliterated.

But they didn't.

Imagine owning a Leagues club in Rozelle, maybe a hotel attached, having 3 seats on an NRL club board, access to an NRL licence...junior leagues running your colours...

If you were/are a Balmain tragic, why WOULDN"T it be an attractive thought?

If fans can organise a "HBG Out" rally in days, why can't that same level of enthusiasm be put toward a club revival? A stronger outcome for the club that we support (Wests Tigers).

You've already got Laundy, a Balmain fan, Triggeboff, a Balmain fan, Darcy Do-Little & Barry O'Farrell with their political connections, Benny, for all his faults, 15,000 fans (or whatever membership numbers Wests Tigers have)....even good old Lee is a Balmain fan in the business of investing in sporting teams...

I have little doubt it would get snapped up if it was actually up for sale.
