HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

Well said Lestronge.
That’s exactly the reason why the once great Canterbury Bankstown club died back in the early 1980s. They made the fatal decision in 1977 to switch from The Berries to The Bulldogs.
Fans couldn’t cope !

Not even close to being the same - they never merged with anyone - there identity was never at risk.
A big difference to branding and identity.
Our first fans identified with either Wests Magpies and or Balmain Tigers.
After twenty five years we now have fans who only identify with Wests Tigers - the club in the here and now
Old fans who still want to push or pedal something from times past for self interest are one of the main barriers to the clubs stability strength and identity.

Fully agree TT
Anyone 30 years or younger today is likely to only ever known Wests Tigers and would have no interest in Balmain Tigers or western suburbs magpies.

This current age bracket is the future for wests tigers.

Any ‘old’ rusted on western suburbs magpies or Balmain tigers supporters are dwindling in numbers every year and are not the future.

See, I think this is where I disagree with a fair few people.

My original point, a while back, regarding Manly/Norths & St George/Illawarra was that the "ideal" was an amalgamation of 2 clubs into 1 joint venture. But BOTH those JV's had one hungrier club than the other that took over.

Wests were in a position to do just that. Balmain was on it's knees. Still is, really. But instead of now supporting the Wests Magpies (Northern Bears are what now?), we still have Balmain Tigers representation at the club, no matter how small.

A large portion of people want to label HBG & Wests as these 'bad guys'. This is the only JV that has remained, largely, a JV. I think it should be celebrated. I think Wests & Balmain should never die. For everything that HBG have, or may have, messed up- they kept the JV alive. Did they do it all on their own? No, of course not.

I just don't think the 'bad guys' would hold the door open the way they have. And why NOT congratulate them for doing something good?

We are quite happy pointing out what they do bad after all.
Chad, the bad guys as you call them may deserve that title because their antics give every indication that they don’t like the legal position they’re in. The bears had no legal protections and dropped out, while the Steelers had legal protections to preserve their history.
WIN bought out the Steelers 50% and nothing changed, Dragons continued to honour the agreement.
The approach adopted by the Magpies was to buy control and now that they have the 90% it obviously doesn’t feel like it. They offered up the other 10% with no luck.
Which ever way you look at it Magpies would achieve more success if they could accept the true meaning of meritocracy.

The name will never change no matter how hard some of the HGB people push it , geez it’s been 25 years now as Wests Tigers , 3/4 of our fans would only know it as such , we need to get over it and squash it every time it’s mentioned , and I think you will find PVL has more power than some on hear think , piss him off again and we see what happens then , maybe he will give HBG some solid advice on how to keep your licence for the Wests Tigers on 2030 , that could include , No Name change , no debenture system ( to be scrapped before 2028 season ) No Wests Magpies return , etc etc , I believe he has the power and support to swing a big axe

He has no power over the way Ashfield appoint their directors
He does have sway , and loads of it , after HBG last mess in December all sacked people were offered back their spots , that was PVL , if he wants a change he will get it , the licence could depend on it , so I believe he does have sway , power , what ever it’s called

Dear friends,

Thank you for participating in our rally to Save Wests Tigers last December and for registering your interest in being involved in the ongoing campaign to improve the governance of our Club.

With the Wests Tigers’ first home trial game at Leichhardt Oval this Friday, I am writing to update you on the campaign.

Firstly, with the season about to get underway, we are all excited and passionate about the potential for renewed success on the field for our team this year.

It’s vital that we all get behind Benji Marshall, the players, and the staff at Wests Tigers to make sure the success we have wanted for so long is delivered in 2026.

As we all said at the rally, Wests Tigers belongs to the members and fans who support the Club and they need our commitment and support more than ever this year.

Since the rally, we have been monitoring the governance arrangements put in place by the Holman Barnes Group for this season.

Preparations are being made for how our new fan-led campaign, Wests Tigers Unite, can play a positive role in engaging supporters and ensuring accountability in how Wests Tigers is being run.

The new interim CEO, Shaun Mielekamp, has made a concerted effort over summer to meet face-to-face with fans and members to hear their frustrations.

Fans are united in our determination that Shane Richardson’s good work in turning our Club around will continue and not be abandoned.

We all want Shaun and his team at Wests Tigers to do well and they need our support to make that happen.

After the show of strength from fans at the rally in December, we are working on a plan for how we can ensure the governance of Wests Tigers is accountable to members and supporters in 2026.

We will update you about the next steps in the Wests Tigers Unite campaign in the near future.

I look forward to seeing you at Friday night’s trial at Leichhardt Oval when the Wests Tigers will take on the Panthers.

Yours sincerely,

Darcy Byrne

There's nothing to suggest they're thinking of doing that. Other than podcasters who are now backing away from that angle.

People are jumping at shadows.

Lee H went on record and shared what some of their plans had been behind the scenes. Marina Go alluded to it without saying it directly in the podcast with her son.

Its more than jumping at shadows.

What a cat. Came out of the gates hot, talked a big game about the trial. Typical politician back tracking.

That is not removing the debenture system which is what you said
