HBG, Independent Directors Sacked

A quote from an article in the SMH by Masters

"Compare that to the collegiate spirit which now pervades the NRL. Financial security is the basis of the comity between clubs. None are under threat of going broke. Rugby League Central funds every club’s player wages bill, and provides an additional $5m to assist in its administration expenses. Gate receipts, sponsorship and membership income usually cover the rest of its operating costs. Sure, the Holman Barnes Group of licensed clubs has been forced to tip in $34m to Wests Tigers the past 25 years, but that has mainly been to pay out the contracts of sacked coaches and officials."

He's talking about money that clubs receive from various avenues. I hope he doesn't thnk that's a lot of money.

Just over 1 million a year, doesn't seem like much compared to what other leagues clubs contribute, but it is Roy Masters.
Think Roy is highlighting the money that they/clubs waste , that could have been spent more wisely.
Having your head stuck in a feed bag etc, any hand out , charity should be spent more wisely then

Further more, who was fundamentally responsible for sacking those coaches and officials if not ultimately the Holman Barnes Group.

Would argue that there would not have been a lot left over of their piddling annual contribution after the money that was squandered on pay outs and legal fees.

Actually I don't really need to argue that because Roy has come out and stated that as a fact in his article, what a slap in the face hey Roy.
I know right, HBG being forced to make payouts for their own inept decisions.

Ok. Is it your opinion that discussions about bringing the magpies have not taken place at HBG over the last couple of years and that the people who have gone on record and implied it publicly are making it up?
Lee Hap? I don't believe or care about what he says. He used the club as an advertising tool and still tries to do a such.
I see no actions from HBG in 15 years of ownership to suggest they want to bring back the magpies.
Plenty of bad decisions though.

And again ... it’s a big shout out to HBG and the Wests Tigers Board on overseeing our clubs sparkling early season form.
Well done to all involved.
Onward & upward 👍
🤣🤣😅🤣🥲🤣 You wish.It stemmed from the great work of richo, the independent directors and benji over the last two years... which included popping the pimple with Galvin so we weren't dealing with that drama in 2026. We will miss your leadership Richo! Only peanuts would try and get rid of such a fearless leader 🥜🥜🥜

The good, the bad, the ugly ... all overseen by HBG
Everyone’s happy when we’re winning - well, almost everyone 🙄

PS. Who appointed Benji ?

Theres alot of bad and ugly. We havent played semi-final football under HBG for the last 15 years. I guess when the benchmark is so low, I can understand why you see 2 trial wins as a victory for HBG.

I know who you'd hold responsible if we'd lost both games. 😉

You are so quick to defend HBG and "question the group think" in the face of facts, yet you don't extend the same courtesy or the same consistency in your logic when it comes to other people like Lee.

How do you know Lee is not telling the truth? Were you there? If you weren't, then how can you be sure?

My view is you try to sound intelligent, but you don't actually realise with each post you look more and more foolish and intellectually dishonest.

You should just stop for your own reputation. Whatever is left of it.
Do you have a mirror at home mate!

You are so predictable it's ridiculous, no mention of the CEO and directors who are no longer here that set-in place the stepping stones for any future success.

There used to be a segment in a publication years ago called the One-Eyed Tiger, same theme playing out here.

Do we attribute all of the success last season on the independent board members & the CEO of the time? (Hired & put in place by who, for the record?)

Surely we should include Tim Sheens for setting up better pathway systems in his second term here that produced players like Bula, while we hand out praise.

And Scott Fulton for bringing over 2 of the pre-season stars in Samuela & Sione Fainu.

Or was last years 'success' & all the following years directly attributable to 4 independent board members (the returning ones, covered in the praise you criticised) & the former CEO?

Sacked and forced out not long after by who? If it wasnt for PVL, we'd have Mestrov as CEO and Elias as GM, with players looking to leave... HBG would have been the laughing stock of Australian sport with the Wests Tigers on course for a few more spoons before 2030.

So lets not praise them for something that worked that they never wanted...

True. But Richo & the independents that got the Tigers all the way up to 13th were hired by HBG.

I don't imagine Mestrov & Elias would have been very good- but let's not set it in stone that this was absolutely what would have happened.

It was reported, and if news & reports (in general) have been anything of late, it's blasphemous & click bait trending.

Mielekamp was in the building at the time of these 'factual reports' & became CEO. Why wasn't Mestrov hired as CEO, as reported, over Mielekamp?

Or was that more conjecture than fact? PVL had nothing to do with Mielekamp taking over as CEO did he?
