It dosnt make sense to me either, I think hes very underated. Has the odd error but puts in, makes a tonne of metres and finishes very well. Our depth is shocking in the backs so to release him is strange, unless its to free up a spot to bring someone elese in.

Spending overs means a weaker top 30....and we can see how thats playing out for us right now...

I don't think it was just people having doubts about him as an inexperienced rookie because he has got runs on the board everywhere that he has been.

From all reports Shaun has had previous experience dealing with disfunctional/difficult to deal with management and boards, the doubt in many peoples minds has been around how tight a leash do the HBG have around Shaun's neck, bearing in mind that he is still only interim and not knowing exactly how much freedom he has to action important matters.

So I think it could be safe to say that in many peoples minds, any doubts about Shaun's ability to achieve success probably come down to some of the following:
  • Doubts surrounding Shaun's tenure as CEO, which is reasonable considering that he is still only listed as interim.
  • A lack of knowledge and understanding of exactly what role and how far reaching his responsibilities currently are within the organisation.
  • How much freedom and autonomy he has in relation to decisions that can be made around those areas of responsibilty.
  • A lack of information coming from HBG in relation to make up of boards, their meetings and any decisions coming from those.
I'm sure there are many more factors and concerns that people have surrounding Shaun's current situation, but one thing that cannot be disputed is that Richo brought him in to be his successor and the only thing that we know for certain at the moment is that just like Benji, Shaun has had his apprenticeship cut short and has been thrown in the deep end.

All we can do is wish him every success and hope that there is no repeat of any of the brain dead types of decisions from HBG that we saw back in December.

Thing is he wasn't an inexperienced operator in the first place. He was CEO of a professional sporting club for 9 years, during which time despite having no funds they won back to back comps. And prior to that worked for Souths and Penrith so also knows League. Richo brought him in because Shaun is a really good asset to the club
 
Successful cap management involves skill and luck. Firstly you try and assemble a quality spine. Than you get a couple of standout front rowers and at least one very good edge back rower. Than you throw some money at outstanding kids who have real potential. What cap you have left you throw at journeyman and kids coming through. Benji has managed to lock in are very solid core of players and hopefully a couple of kids are going to really surprise and make the big step to nrl

Wasn't the deal done whilst he was out injured because he couldn't fend, let alone tackle with any venom?
 
Hope we have signed the kid as he has a lot of potential , till 29 should show where he is at and we again can extend him later if required , Skelton I would keep as cheap back up but I feel what we offer will be under a few other clubs who want some size in a winger , Dragons , eels all could do with him , Toa is our real problem and we should be doing everything we can to unload him and free up a spot even if it for one of the kids , be better than what he produces , he is cooked

Who would be dumb enough to take Toa, you would have to offer a buy one get one free with Skelton, but that's just fantasy.

Looks like we are stuck with him unless he decides to retire himself, doubt the club could medically retire him if it's a pre-existing injury.
 
Was never a fan of Toa, slow play the ball, always gets up looking injured, bad extension of his contract. If we can offload him somehow, great, maybe medical retirement but think highly unlikely. As for Skelton, I would keep him as backup, providing contract is modest cost.
We have a tough few weeks coming up even with the bye, hope we get all the troops back soon after, maybe a surging period to the finals, Have fingers, toes and everything else crossed, Go Tigers!

Thankfully, he's only one of one. We used to be stacked with bad contracts! We've got some other very average top 30 entrants (e.g. Will Craig), but they will clear out this year.
