Heamasi Makasini #303

I was unsure about him being picked at centre, purely due to his defence. They’ve obviously seen enough at training to know that he can handle it.

I’m excited to see him line up against Purdue who is slight and has made some really bad decisions in defence at centre.

Also, the majority of fans know about Makasini due to his runs on the wing. What they won’t know about him is how unselfish he is and how well he sets up his outside men. Could be a try fest for Laulili.

Might be a master stroke.

I think he's actually marking Tom Chester which is a solid start. if it were Purdue I'd be a little concerned if I'm honest as I'm not sure he's ready.

as you say though, his greatest gift is his ability to attract defenders and pass to his man outside. providing we can get some second phase going with some offloads and some decent shapes, he's going to have plenty of opportunities to create points.
 
His comments were totally unnecessary,particularly as we paid him last year whist he was finishing school and only played one game.
Remember,he broke into tears when Benji gave him his cap,so he definitely has an allefgience to WTs
Other thing in our favor is RWC in Oz in 2027,which he will miss becuase hes contracted to WTs
Were gonna have to win his heart and wallet...best way to do that is win more games and be a genuine title threat...and play him eventually where the big $$ are ....like fullback.
$1.2 mill/year upgrade if he can handle the position will be hard for RA to beat
Luais $$ will be available by then
We can make this work if were smart

Is it smart to offer a wing/centre 1.2 million per year?

He's done nothing yet.

To me, management doesn't want to sign too early and is backing the kid to perform which will just grow that next contract value.

I wish the Tigers wouldn't try to jump in so early with these kids because now we have 2 more years of speculation of our own doing.

Yes, they will be going his side in the red zones quite a bit.

In that case Purdue is going to have to mark Taylan May which is probably even worse for him!
 
Article about Masi's contract situation is laughable

He's played 1 NRL game, why on earth would he ever consider signing a contract extension right now? He'd be a fool to even entertain the idea

Plenty of time to sort a possible deal out. Club needs to make sure the team performs and they're in his ear about staying constantly.

Nothing worth stressing over at this point

He did say "I have some goals first".. so who knows what they are. The journos were fishing for it.
