Heamasi Makasini #303

Everything he does this year either good or bad is vital experience that he needs for his development as a player.Naturally we all hope it will only be good things that happen but life is not like that.
He is young and learning and realisticaly that is all you can expect but i have no doubt he will be a better and more consistent footballer by the end of the year.Give him time and have patience.

He probably could use a week or two off just to rest and re-group. I'm not gonna knock him for those two errors, it happens and he's been fine on that front the first few weeks. As I said earlier in the thread, he's been fine in first grade as an 18 year old, which puts him incredibly far ahead of the curve.
But 'for an 18 year old' is not cutting it in first grade and consistently costing us.

Of course he will. Anyone with talent will improve with practice and encouragement. Unfortunately, his repeated errors in defense and attack are seriously costing the team and whereas his mistakes have been masked by wins in the past 3 weeks, last night they cost us the game. You simply cannot carry a player on LPlates indefinitely.

Plan and simple, had a sh.t game and I agree with what someone else said ,his defensive decision in most games this year have been questionable, his hit ups have been good not great, I don't by into the "he's only 18" either, he's in the team the coach has picked him to play, so get there and do your job , for example if a bloke gets called up he's 25 years old, plays his first 4 games of NRL has a shocker do you say , he's only 25 he's only played 4 games? Nar , he's been given a chance there's room for improvement,so have a couple of weeks in the reserve grade, dominate and get your confidence up and you will be back in the team. Adam Reynolds was the stand out difference unfortunately great kicking game.

2 costly mistakes yes

But there were some amazing hit ups where he did some solid grunt work.

Im proud of this 18 yo kid and I will persist with him for as long as it takes.

Fast Forward 20 more games.

He is a gun

I think he might be carrying a niggle, got hit hard a few times in the Knights game.

I was down in that corner where he made the 2 errors and the look of trepidation on his face said it all. Poor kid was mentally shot.

Don't think he needs to be dropped but a week on the extended bench would give him a chance to mentally and physically refresh which would do him the world of good.

Bula was injured, dogged it and sold him a bucket of 💩. Ya gotta be ready in NRL.
He had a rough ten minutes it’ll probably happen again, but this is first grade NRL if there’s someone else that offers more than they should be playing if not, than help the young bloke get over it this week and get ready for the game ahead.

4 critical errors he made guys. Not good enough.

Anyhow. He’s a good player with so much potential. Learnt a lot.

I recall (even though we won), a game from like 10 years ago where Reynolds (whilst playing for Souths) putting a kick in for Inglis behind Moses Suli when Suli played for us. No substitute for experience.

He’s getting some awful attacks online. Hope the boys rally around him
Nothing personal, just game analysis .
He proved a weak link last night, like Skelton the week before.
Yes, he’s 18 and yes, he’s got talent but it’s a big boys game based on results and all he had to do was catch a ball.
His hit ups were strong but the most important task he had was pretty weak imo.
As I said earlier he’s got that Tommy Talau wrap and we all know what happened there. Possibly scoring that flash try v Penrith did two things, a) made all the old hard heads aware of him and b) put a target on him. Just ask Reynolds and
Know how that ended. Focus on the fundamentals son for the time being.

I was talking about the personal stuff.

Nothing gained playing Maka in NSW cup. He’s too far ahead of that level to get anything out of it. His upside is huge Id guess Benji persists unless he’s impacted on a personal level. He’s going to have these games as a kid have to live with it.

I think it would be a waste of a bench spot.
Needs a spell without the pressure of NRL.
But Benji and coaches need to be in his ear constantly to reassure him they have faith in him.
Needs some one-on-one coaching to realign his head space.

I know this is harsh, but benji loss that game for us , there is plenty on here who can see that maka has been struggling of late , he should of been given a rest , watching him , he looks like he has lost weight and pace , I know he didn’t make mistakes on purpose, but the kid cost us that win , but he really needs a break, and that’s on benji

its in his interests to have a break , he’s only a kid 2 weeks not playing in the Hugh grade will help him

It’s a very arrogant call to say he is too far ahead of reserve grade when he has only played 4 games there, losing 3 and scoring just 1 try.
It’s not true.

I honestly would give him a week off refresh and come back after Canberra
