Heighington???

Last night on the ABC radio call they were saying Chris Heighington was playing his last game at Leichhardt and was off to England next season (along with Gareth Ellis) . This was news to me. Have I missed something obvious here?
I thought Chris was backing up with us in 2013? Can someone put me or the ABC straight on this …

I haven't heard it either but given he played test football for England and we are stacked with back rowers again next yr -Fulton , Blair, murdoch masiala, anasta, pettybourne, Thompson then it could be true . However I think he has been our best forward the last 8 to ten weeks with a new found aggression Tao really hit the line and he has put on some bulk

Im pretty sure there would of been a bigger deal made if Heighno was leaving.

In saying that, I wish he did. Nothing against the guy whose a complete fryer and isn't the biggest of our problems, but he has zero impact. The game has changed. I think you need your 2nd rowers to be dynamic runners. Unfortunately we only have one, and he doesn't get the ball that much cause our whole back row plays most of the game.

A great clubman and player in his prime but he no longer offers anything of value.

His metre counts may be contrary to what many say, but he is too slow and fails to run lines, break tackles, hit holes or trouble opposition defence lines. Even myself who does not pay particular attention to an individuals performance during the tension of a live game notices this.

He has made an impact in games this year when he has stopped running at markers, doesnt happen often though.

Your right there, would of been a bigger occasion if it was he's last game . Next year will definetley be his last.

I did notice that he and Gareth ran onto the field together before kick off to the Storm game. In fact, Gareth waited until Heighington was with him so they could run through the banner together.

I thought this was odd at the time….may make sense now.

That was because they were celebrating his 200th game last week along with Benji's 1000 points (check out the banner).

the rorters game was his 200th but they wanted to celebrate it properly at a home ground.

Heigho is a great club man but unless he is used as nothing more than a second tier depth player then we are in trouble. Unfortunately, whilever sheens is there Heigho will be on the park full time, every game and we will suffer because of it.

I thought he really put in after his injury.
He ran the ball harder and his form improved dramatically.
Earlier in the year he was struggling to hold his spot … you would think at his age and with all the backrowers at our disposal he would think about a couple of (relatively) easy years in England.
Could only wish him the best.

Heighno was one of few players who actually improved towards the backend of the season. Having said that, with Pettybourne and Thompson on board for next year, and the ever improving BMM on the way up…I can't find a spot for Heighno in the starting side for next year. The Tigers need more grunt in the backrow, and Heighno just doesn't offer that unfortunately.

Im tired of seeing our backrowers hit and spin and back into defenders…sorry mate zero impact this year....

Say what you will about Rhino , but he was one of very few that was still fighting to the very end v Melbourne

I'm just not sure about Rhino , think he did enough at the end of the season to keep him but possibly not enough to be a starter though
