Gee i hope he is taking note of all the signings at at the Dogs, it appears that they just have a endless pit of money, there is no way they can be under the cap.
We have two at best marquee players they have heaps, just look at what they paid to keep 18 year old Klemmer and now they resign the rest of there pack.
No wonder people lose interest, the strong get stronger and we get weaker, BUT the bottom line is no one in the media questions how they keep the dogs under the cap and that goes for 4-5 other teams. :bash :bash

It seems to me the smart operators 'know' how to work around the Salary Cap… Ironically, these operators all seem to have links to the governing body?!

I wonder if beau ryan will get into trouble for saying that the roosters are $2.5M over the cap on the footy show tonight?

Roosters bought no one last year, saved some dough, got maloney to agree to terms a season early and paid part of his deal while he was still playing for warriors, saving them money for this year for guys like Jenko & $BW….all legit

You can play the victim card all you like.....some teams are shrewd, dunno what we are....but we re-sign players that dont play

The one shrewd buy we had was when we signed Benji when he was about 16 years old. Now we are signing players when they are about 33 years old - not so shrewd.

You sure? I never heard of that happening, not sure you can front load for a guy who is yet to play for your club. I do remember Roosters paying their own players with spare cap space to get rid of some backloading deals for 2013 etc.

I think McDonnell and Humphreys should be taking more notice. This is how you sign quality players

Dunno what we are either besides the complete opposite to shrewd.
I heard there is going to be a Dumb And Dumber 2 next year, I wonder if our recruitment staff will be in it.

That reminds me…hows John Grant going ?

Bruno Cullen said it best in a radio interview a few years ago. If you have enough non related third party sponsors to give money to individual players there effectively is no salary cap. He was amazed that the Sydney clubs didn't do what the Broncos did for years and years.

Say company X approach you to be a sponsor of the club, say to them give your money to player A, have him turn up to your company functions a few times a year and we will sought you out with corporate seats for games. How to get round the NRL salary cap 101\. We don't have smart enough people at the Tigers to do it.

It worked for the Broncos why can't Wests Tigers do the same? Is it because we can't attract enough corporate sponsorship to pay players, like sunshine coast wrote, or is it something to do with the club management? I don't know but one thing is for sure and that is Wests Tigers aren't keeping up.

That's it. Third party agreements are dynamite. From the Bulldogs perspective, some of their lesser likes are likely to move on because they know they can get opportunity elsewhere. Are they what we need?? I'm not so sure. Of the remaining players who could come up, i'm not sure any of them would fill a need we didn't already have. Yes someone like Taupau can play prop effectively but how much better than Buchanan or who ever else is he really? We may now be better served focusing on what we already have unless a better options presents.

Its not that easy, any time clubs either organise/guarantee or facilitate 3rd party deals it comes under the marquee player allowance.

What you have/had at Boncos was the Thoroughbreds group who were a de facto part of the club but technically and legally separate, organising 3rd party payments outside of the cap for every player at the club.

well they say that the salray cap is equal for all , but with the loop hole that u talk about tiger watto and Lat it shows it is not, as one town teams have a huge advandage over the rest.

Nothing will happen till the board actually realize what you have to do to build a strong football club.

Most years we Sit on our cheque book during the buying season and than try and buy the cast offs or thevdepth players forced out of their club due to salary cap constraints.Even Doust at the Dragons is having a big dip during the buying season.

Anyone who think at full strength we will be a force is dreaming,we need some quality in key positions and we have now missed the boat once again for 2014,so be prepared for another year being sold to us as a work in progress.

I didn't think there was any cap on non releated 3rd party deals if yoiu set them up right.

Why dont we get some hig profile people such as Harry T to help us set up a thoroughbreds type group. The Broncos have all their players on 3rd party deals. Lockyer was making between $750,000 to $1,000,000 a year near the end of his contract but was under the cap at $250,000\. That is how you build a club to win a comp.

One reason is we dont have the corporate facilities the broncos enjoy all year round, we get some 5 star facilites 33% of the time, its why we spent big on the new rooms in the Robinson stand at LO….but sponsors really dont wish to part with big bucks to entertain clients at LO or Cambo Im afraid

LaT heres a link to the Maloney thing
It was well documented and talked about extensively on RL radio for about a week near the start of the year...I dont think anyone had heard of it before

If people don't think having 3 grounds hurts us in the way of sponsorship ,memberships , sugar daddies etc they are kidding themselves

Thats the key, unrelated.

The moment the club begins giving tickets and favours for sponsorship its no longer unrelated. The Boncos walked a fine line for years, its why they won as much as they did in their short history.

There was only room for him if he decided to break contract early, there is nothing in that link that says Roosters paid Maloney in 2012\. Fairly sure the cap prohibits that sort of payment, even backloading contracts these days is a minefield for clubs, paying a player a year before he arrives at the club just isn't possible as far as I'm aware.

I remember the talk about Roosters being under the cap, it was all about using their extra money to end backloading and give them as much space as possible for 2013.
