Hodges

I think this is another of those scenarios we see each year where imo rep games and finals games should be graded differently to premiership games and trials.
The same action from a player in a team in round 26 out of finals contention can see that player cut his sentence out in a trial the following year…while Hodges could miss his last game of a long career which happens to be a GF

GF swansong
Trial game

Its out of whack imo....im no Hodges fan believe me, but the sysytem is wrong imo

If the judiciary has any credence at all then they must treat illegal actions equally throughout the season. Lifting a player and putting them at risk of injury can't be dismissed because of sentimentality.

True
The fact its his last game shouldn't come into it really

But it is a GF… And the point I'm making is the current system sees the eventual penalty as a trial game is the same as a. Grand final
Its not

Happens almost every year, a big name player is potentially going to miss the grand final. They almost always get off, this will be no different.

Isaac Luke missed last year, Cameron Smith also missed a GF, as did Steve Price through suspensions, so the judiciary haven't always been reticent to suspend a big name player for a GF. That said, Hodges should really get off in this instance, as Guerra caused the tackle to look worse than it was by jumping off the ground.

Steve Price missed '04 GF through injury Flip. Hodges upended Guerra and when one of your legs is being pulled up like that it is pretty much a reflex action to bounce off your other leg to relieve some of the pressure placed on the muscles of the lifted leg. Hodges deserves to get rubbed out for it IMO, pretty sure when Inglis somersaulted onto his own head in a few similar tackles on him last season the tackler/tacklers in those instances got suspended. If the Cows win next week it would just make it all the more sweeter to watch if Hodges is out on the field though.

You are correct FTB! Price did miss the 2004 GF because of injury, not suspension - my bad. Luke Ricketson was actually the one who missed that GF through suspension. I knew it was someone fairly well known, just couldn't remember who.

I get what you're saying about the reflex action in the Hodges tackle also. I suppose if they are going to be consistent, then they will have to suspend him, but we'll wait and see I guess. Whilst I've never been a fan of Hodges' sometimes 'grubby' actions on the field, I would really hate to see him miss his swansong with the Broncos and the possibility of taking out a Premiership in his last ever NRL game. Say what you like about him, but he has had a great career as one of the best centres to ever play the game and he deserves to go out in style playing in the GF, not sitting on the sidelines, imo.

Smith almost yanked Thaiday's head off in the midst of the "Storm wrestling cheating" hype. He had to miss out. Luke was a strange one. But look at a case like Hayne in 09 when he dropped knees. If that's a middle of the road fullback in round 4 he gets a couple of weeks, but without Hayne the Melbourne vs Parra grand final would have been a disaster.

Hodges should get suspended ….. but due to circumstances will most likely get off.

I think North Qld can win either way.
