Holiday & Travel

Vietnam is a great country.
It may seem chaotic but Vietnamese drivers are pretty good, especially in comparison to India. Did 4 weeks on bikes and never felt worried or in danger. Didn't spend much time in cities, mainly country back roads.
Me and 2 mates rode south to north in Vietnam on dirt bikes 30 years ago.
Very different place back then. It’s amazing how much that joint has developed and grown.

Hawaii is the most amazing place I’ve been to.
It’s like a full blown party 24/7 over there… I stayed at the Hilton village in Honolulu a couple years back and you’d wake up to a packed beach at 7am with cocktail bars already in full swing. I recommend booking activities way in advance if anyone plans on heading there…helicopter rides over the volcanos, snorkelling, Jet ski-ing etc. my personal favourite was the Kaolua Ranch riding the quad bikes through the valleys

Be prepared to spend a lot of $$$ tho

I also learnt the sunburns are fierce as hell over there lol…

Been to LA and San Fran aswell … reminded me too much of Sydney, didn’t like it as much and way too busy

Agree. With Hawaii. (Last went 10yrs ago though) Something for everyone!

I've been lucky enough to travel a lot of places around the world and always snubbed my nose at Bali.

I went there earlier this year and had the best time! Got off the beaten track and found some amazing beaches, swam in waterfalls, ate lots of Indonesian food and came back with a new appreciation for Indonesia.

I'm also excited to be heading off to Vietnam in a few weeks to tick another place off the list.

No mate, I have the wife with me, wouldn’t be real keen on riding with the standard of drivers and riders here. We started up north at Hanoi, then to Ha Long Bay where we had an overnight cruise. Got to Hoi An tonight , we will spend 3 days at the resort, then on to Ho Chi Minh City. Then in to Cambodia
Good stuff, mate. Sounds awesome. Have a great time.

I'll never make it as I don't have enough $$$ [donations gladly accepted though haha] but I would love to go to Japan during the Cherry Blossom season then onto China just for the experience of being in a Communist dictator run country...and seeing how the people actually live.

Currently in negotiations with the Minister of Finance & Entertainment about our next adventure.

Originally pinned the UK as she has never been, but I've done the UK about 6 times now & while I'd love going back, the dollars (pounds?) just don't add up at the moment. Ultimate goal is Iceland, but that falls under the UK financial constraints.

So, we are waging debates between Thailand (Phuket in particular), Bali, Japan, New Zealand (so under rated), Fiji or Tahiti.

Tahiti was a late enterent and may have jumped into barrier 1, but Japan & Phuket are nipping at the heels. I've done Bangkok, she has done Phuket- so that might be putting Thailand into 3rd spot.

Anyway- the target date is early April, so we have a few weeks to determine the short priced favourite.

You'll get return fares to Japan for around 800 on Jetstar if you keep an eye out for specials. It won't be cherry blossom time of course but my personal favourite time is the autumn leaves.
Lived there for 6 years and always thought it was the best. Also if you go then you should find accommodation cheaper. Don't go through the hotel sites or Trivago rather do a google map search. It'll initially show only hotels that give them kickbacks but if you move the map a bit and then search this area you'll see little red dots. That's hotels or accommodation that doesn't give money to Google. A lot will only be in Japanese but Google does translate them.
Found plenty of places in the countryside at 65 bucks for bed n 2 meals.

Bali is ok if you steer clear of the hotspots.
You’ll find the worst representation of Australia in those joints.

All good BZN. It takes time to find them and organise it but that's part of finding out what you want to see and do. Language will be an issue when booking but see what you can do. Try to get things organised well-ahead of time.
Having lived in Tokyo for 5 years, I'm over going to see the big city lights. The countryside of Japan is amazing though. Got a few videos of my last trip on a Suzuki Gixxer 150 up on utub -
I went in May in between cherry blossom time and the rainy season. Temperature and weather was mainly fine.
If you do think autumn may be the best season for you, I would recommend the northern areas of Japan. I lived in Sendai and Yamagata during an autumn and winter. The leaves seriously made me fall in love with that season; I even look forward to it here and go up to Dorrigo etc just to see the leaves there.

Doing 4 of the 5 Disney parks as well as going to the Halloween party. Not going to the waterpark. Also going to Universal Studios.
At Universal Studios - pay a bit extra and get the front of line pass for the rides. Also Warner Brothers has a studio tour. Worth an afternoon. Also if you can - A Dearly Departed tour.

Going back to Japan next year to do more motorcycle riding on Shikoku and Kyushu on postie bikes.
Went to Shikoku this May and was blown away by the beauty of the forests, rivers and mountains.
Want to do a lot more of that but am also planning to look at two volcanoes in Kyushu and Hashima Island. It featured in Skyfall.
Dont neglect the Izakaia restaurants. To die for. Also if you have time the restaurants thst only cater for 4 or 5 people and the cook being in the middle of guests. Shinjuku inparticular.

Last year i did Sicily, Malta, Northern Italy and would not mind going back next year, had a great time and meet some great people.
