I haven't travelled too much, but looking to do a little over the next few years. I would love to hear any travel stories, good and bad from fellow forumers. Both Aussie and overseas welcome. I haven't been overseas for 20 years. As far Australia goes, I find it hard to spend money going...

When we were in Phuket , in the main drag we got a trip to do a water rafting, wash the elephants in the river , quad bike ride through the jungle for 1 1/2 hours , and a zip line , it was a full day left at 6.30 am and got back at 6.00 pm lunch included, was a fantastic day , it was a few years ago cost about $90 , was well worth it .

Doing a cruise from Barcelona to Orlando via Spain, Portugal and Canary Islands then Bahamas in November.

We don't mind cruising and have met some lovely people.

If you want to visit a cheap place with unspoiled crystal clear beaches, amazing food, incredible culture... Visit the island of Ikaria in Greece. I've been all over the world and it's a truly unspoiled authentic experience. I go there every three years. Its extraordinary.

Sicily is also amazing.

The Turkish Rivera is really underrated to and CHEAP. Kas and Kalkan, places like that are pretty nice for a holiday that's a bit different but still has amazing beaches. Also Istanbul is full of culture and energy.

Croatia is nice but expect to see 10,000 Australian sales and marketing types there drinking rose taking selfies non stop. Buzz Kill. Mark Viduka runs his own cafe in Zagreb if you make it there.

Croatia is great but like you said, so crowded these days. I suppose everyone is heading towards Dubrovnik but if you go north and into Slovenia you'll be amazed. Also only a few clicks into Italy to Trieste etc.

Bangkok is great fun, good value, delicious food, brilliant shopping. So underrated.

Athens, apart from the Acropolis and other historical ruins, is a big dirty, expensive city…give it a wide miss…. And I’m Greek

No mate, I have the wife with me, wouldn’t be real keen on riding with the standard of drivers and riders here. We started up north at Hanoi, then to Ha Long Bay where we had an overnight cruise. Got to Hoi An tonight , we will spend 3 days at the resort, then on to Ho Chi Minh City. Then in to Cambodia

Vietnam is a great country.
It may seem chaotic but Vietnamese drivers are pretty good, especially in comparison to India. Did 4 weeks on bikes and never felt worried or in danger. Didn't spend much time in cities, mainly country back roads.

Going back to Japan next year to do more motorcycle riding on Shikoku and Kyushu on postie bikes.
Went to Shikoku this May and was blown away by the beauty of the forests, rivers and mountains.
Want to do a lot more of that but am also planning to look at two volcanoes in Kyushu and Hashima Island. It featured in Skyfall.
