Home Semi-Final

For me this TOPIC is unnecessary and based on the way the Tigers have fallen over the line in the past 2 weeks then I think a top 8 finish is not yet a given!

Subject matter is presumptuous and a little bit arrogant with 8 rounds to go!

Definitely at the SFS. Big games at the big grounds. It's a joke that people want to play a semi final in front of a crowd below 20k. The only logical reason for not playing it at a big ground is because we're scared of the big stage.

Both grounds can hold over 20,000.

If they have a home semi they should play at Campbelltown or Leichhardt and make it Members only. They could take advance sales of memberships for 2011 and that is the only way you could get into the ground. A good way to boost your members numbers to over 20,000 and it would sort out who the fair dinkum fans are.

I don't think will happen - therefore i agree with the SFS as the option. Big venue for a big game.

LOL…..no way it would be allowed...I somehow dont think the oppositions fans would take too kindly to that, nor the NRL.

Interesting concept? I dont think the 2010 Members would agree with you. Geez, I paid for 2 2010 Memberships in early December 09, and the club only got my Membership Card to me a week before Round 1 this year.

Anyway, the NRL runs the Final Series and gets the gate I think???

Hi everyone

I believe it will be at the SFS because it would be too hard for the joint venture to choose between Leichhardt and Campbelltown.

Just imagine this forum if one or the other was chosen…...

Tigergran

I can remember and im sure you can too kay when we only used both grounds and there was an uneven amount of home games….it got evened out eventually, mightve taken a few seasons but they always squared it up

No such thing as a too hard decision.

I'd rather talk about this a week or 2 out from the semis and if we're in the same position.

I agree, lets make sure first that the team will be finishing in top 8\.
then hopefully it will be top 4\. 😛ray:
if & when this happens, then decide on a ground.

Hypothetical: Ok - we'll assume that each of Campbelltown and Leichhardt have had an even amount of games over the 11 or so years (can this be confirmed just for interest)- how would you decide which ground to pick for a semi if a decision had to be made (which it won't - will be SFS)?

Tigergran

Kay - Leichhardt has had 43 and Campbelltown 46\. At the end of the 2010 season it will Leichhardt 46 and Campbelltown 47.

Let's seal a top 8 spot first though. We are getting a little ahead of ourselves in this thread.

All however means jackschitt when it comes down to just what a top 4 finish is supposed to be all about, that being a home game with the _advantage_ of playing at home
Nice easy out for the club too in not having to make a hard decision

So you'd happily shut out 20,000 fellow Tigers supporters so you can watch a home final at Leichhardt or Campbelltown? If we made the top four, we'd come close to selling out ANZ Stadium.

Home ground advantage really worked for St. George at chOKI Jubilee last year didn't it?

It's a better arrangement for the club (especially financially,) and for the fans to play at the SFS as opposed to one of the spiritual homes.

My only wish is what is best for the team to win.
Remember we are talking about possibly playing a team at their **real** home ground.
I think we'd have more chance beating them in a semi at Cambo or LO as opposed to their home ground.
I await someone to raise the moronic point that they beat us at cambo earlier this year.

I've been out of the loop on this one.

I want the best for the team as well Ink, but I think the best for the team isn't just on-field performances, they also need to be financially viable, and should be looking at every opportunity they can to boost revenue.

I'm not really a believer in the "home ground advantage" hype. I have always believed the better side on the day will win, so therefore I think the club should fill its coffers by letting as many fans in as possible. Obviously by playing at a bigger venue, you do it in good faith that the fans will turn up and they may well not. But considering we've been out of the finals for 4 seasons and we've got a great bunch of players who are well known in the RL community, I reckon we would pull the crowds this time, especially if it is against another NSW team that we have a traditional rivalry with, (i.e Manly, Souths.)

If Leichhardt & Cambo could house another 20,000 each, I'd be all for a home semi. I just don't think we should be turning our noses at any financial opportunities either. It's not just a football club, it's a business as well.

If its our Home game I have no doubt that we will pant the entire stadium Black and Orange.

Fair point Ned …..... maybe just a tad excited rather than arrogant though !

For me as an ex-Magpie, I would have no problem playing the first semi at leichhardt and just take it in turns every time after that.

The point about Tigers fans missing out on the game ....... the club will always make sure the members are looked after so please become a member so you don't put yourself in that position where you can miss the game.

If we play the home semi at Moore Park, there's not a great deal of advantage in making the top 4\. I know the WT fans will make it feel like a home semi, but if we play Souths or Easts we could easily be outnumbered. I suppose if you run 5th-8th you run the risk of being knocked out in week 1 but its a shame we don't get the true home ground advantage that we get at LO or Cambo.

Talking to a few fellows in the NRL lower admin ranks that I went to Uni with I believe there is a process in place this season to prevent a fan lockout such as what happened in the Saints V Parra semi last year where the NRL has the right to re-assign for the betterment of the game

Ned, its simply a discussion **should** we make the top 4\. No one is putting the horse before the cart here mate.

I concede that against Souths we may be matched or even outnumbered, and I'd love to see finals at LO or CS but in reality the grounds aren't big enough, and I think the club will consider financial benefits as well, and I can't fault them for doing that.

I know my opinion isn't a popular one, but the club should be looking out for it's future financially as well as the here and now.

Too True, West Tigers could be the first club in history to have the riot squad turn up to control fights between its own fans.
Me, I love Leichhardt but I also love going to cambo don't care which one would hold a semi.

But alas, we will all be at the SFS (which holds some wonderful wonderful memories of finals seasons) supporting the Wests Tigers :supporter:

Locking out even one current or potential suppporter is not good business sense. Thankfully the people running the club will take a home semi to the SFS.
