Honest opinions

I actually really enjoyed the 9's. Pleasantly surprised with how our team of fringe first graders went, considering I gave them no chance.

For me the main disappointments were;
LAWRENCE: Big disappointment, seen no improvement. Don't want him at centre.
SIMONA: A little disappointed, seemed to lack his normal speed. Still first choice centre.
SUE: Disappointed, was hoping to see more improvement with lots of offloads. See how he goes early rounds in 1st's.

NAQUIAMA: Stand out performances. Showed hunger in every area. Could play centre or wing and would be happy for him to get a go in 1st's.
SANTI: The workhorse we need to replace Fulton.
DRINKWATER: Pretty good, good backup for Moses and Brooks.
BUCHANAN: Big improvement in leg speed and leg drive. Pushes for bench spot.
LIO: Some good signs, only looks good for short minutes atm.

Finally: I'm very excited about FUNAKI. He runs great lines, good hitups and defence. Fell off some tackles but I think he has a huge future. Would love to see him get some bench time. Very inexperienced but his potential is above Sue imo.

I didn't see any of the matches, but if this this assessment is correct, I'm thinking the 3 disappointments, who are guaranteed a first grade spot, probably didn't try too hard to avoid further injury and the 6 impressive ones were busting their guts to try and gain a spot in first grade come round one. That's usually the way it works anyway.

I think that's a fair assessment. If you look at all the sides in the Nines, the stars were mostly young kids busting their backsides trying to make a name for themselves. I think the more established players would have seen it as more of ''whatever'' type deal.

Naiqama went ok but remember it was the 9s im real concerned about his size and his ability to defend especially on our line, he's a liability, teams will just run plays at him and there's no way he will stop a guy close to the line he's just too light. Small guys in this day and age need to be really special to survive in the nrl.

Kevin was a stand out imo. Especialy his defence. He's fast, strong and can play in a few different positions.
We have a few others in our team at the moment that are more of a liability in defence ( Brooks, Mosses etc. )

.

Naiqama may be small in height but he looked physically very strong. I think defensively he looked ok. The worry may be high kicks to his side on his line against the taller wingers. Utai had similar problems.

I hate how negative it can get in here after a loss.

When we're winning everyone is happy, as soon as we lose everyone is an expert.

I understand that forums are used for this exact purpose… To express opinions.

Overall as a whole we have limited knowledge of plans from within, for not only short term- but long term.

But are quick to tear down our own club for not doing it the way that I want etc.

A bit hypocritical from me, however, this is what this thread is about. Honest opinions.

I agree Phil, but the problem will always be that complainers are louder than the rest, so those people who are not as emotional about the result typically don't have as much to say (or perhaps to say it as passionately). The negative feelings have more volume, but not necessarily more support.

It's the same as the age old battle of wills between optimists and pessimists, glass half-full vs half-empty. The pessos on here will call the optimists "dreamers", and I consider myself to fall into the latter category of being optimistic. The Oppos sigh and shrug their shoulders when the pessos go on and on after a loss. There is no solution in known human existence - and rarely does a member of one camp defect to the other.

At the start of every year Iam optimistic that we will have a good season, but my optimism is based purely on the fact I have a black and orange eye.

Now if I was a bookie and stood to win or loose a bucket load of cash on where I ranked the Tigers would finish it would be a different matter. I would look at team line ups, recent form and things like that and make what I would consider a educated judgement, and that is why most people outside our club think we will have a poor year.

Time will tell

It is very difficult to gauge untapped potential, which what is abundance at Wests Tigers.

It depends who you talk to on this Forum , if you are Optimistic ? it's because your delusional and need a Reality check and if you are Pessimistic ? your accused of being a negative Nancy and to go and follow another Club.

Either way you will not win.

Think its only natural for all supporters to think their side are a genuine chance regardless of what outsiders think. If you read the greenhouse, i reckon the majority would think the Raiders are certs for the 8\. As you say, time will tell.

Your right and after such a rocks and diamonds year last year, their is plenty to be excited about and plenty to be scared about. I just feel Taylor and especially his strength and rehab team will make a difference, will it translate into plenty of wins, who knows, but I do expect us to start becoming a consistent football team

I don't understand people questioning the ability of Moses to tackle.

For his age and experience I think he is a very good defender.

He played quite a few games at Full back last year and his defence was good. It is not an easy position to defend being last line of defence and the attacking player usually having plenty of roo to move.

5 / 8 is much easier (in the sense that the attacker does not have as much open space) and so he will go even better.

I really don't know what people expect of these young guys. Moses is a champion in the making.

All we have to do is wait.

You are spot on with your comments, but your second line is the issue, for his age and experience he is fine.

Bridging that gap is hard and normally takes a year or so.

Brooks and Sironen were noted defenders in under age footy, miles above their contempories, but it is a step up and takes time. I expect Brooks and SIro to be infinitely better in defence this year.

Moses will miss more than most 5/8's this year and be targeted. It is the thing with being a 20 YO in NRL. But down the track he will be more than capable.

There will be no defensive sand pits named after him or anything.

just remember that alot of people like to bet on games.
so they need to blame someone for their own stupidity.
