Hooker position - Thread

Better than the suggestion of a ball playing lock but it's a No from me..

Number 14 is as far as I would go. Imo brooks is the only half we have that could dominate consistently at hooker. Uses his shoulders that is needed in the middle aswell as his passing and running. But I prefer him at #7.

Whilst ever Benji is in the halves, we won't be successful because he makes poor decisions consistently at critical times and goes for the miracle play too often. Every now and then it works for him and everyone admires his ability, but his strike rate is poor at best. He needs to be shifted to make way for Reynolds imo. No need to re-invent the wheel here. Play hookers at hooker.

Could not agree more, have been saying this round 5.

so far from what i have seen of him at dh it looks like his passes are just too slow. most dhs will zip the ball out from the ptb and with him there he still seems to pass like a 6.
i'd like a quicker transition of him into 6 and not yet buying into him being dh much at all.
i guess this can be fixed, but feel maybe in his heart he doesnt want to be a 9…

No way, there's a difference between passing the ball normally and dummy half passing, and Reynolds is not good at dummy half passing. Once Reynolds is fit enough he will be our #6 and Benji will go to reserve grade, Benji just hasn't been playing good enough.

I don't get it.
Everyone seems to look at Reynolds and go "we have a 5/8, why don't you play 9".

We give him a go and he barely survives a match.

The guy has just changed clubs, he needs to get used to being within our team and our structures. To put him into a very different position, well it's a lot of change on a lot of change. Yet we see nothing that suggests he is an 80 minutes hooker, even a 40 minutes hooker.

I have always said, if you move Reynolds anywhere Center. Less passing, more running and his grit in defense is needed there. However if we need a hooker, Benji! Get his focus off the game and his focus on "ok got to get the ball to Brooks or Reynolds." Simplify his role and he will have fewer brain snaps. Benji played the role at Brisbane, he could do it for us for 20-30 minutes.

Agree with this. Its what needs to and what i expect WILL happen.

The whole preseason was based around Reynolds at six, Benji on the bench. Benji would come on and Reynolds would go to dummy half.

Cleary always had plans for Reynolds to be on the field for 80 mins. Injuries to Reynolds and Liddle have stalled this plan but it is coming.

Really hard to make a call based on about 25-30 minutes of footy

His enthusiasm helped , but would it be better served in the halves than in the 9

He looked really frustrated in the trials at 9 , I think even Ink commented on it as well ….

We will get a better picture after tomorrow I guess

Anyone get the feeling that Liddle might play one week , rest the next for a while to come unless the Pec injuries worsens ......

The Pec you told us about Nurse Geo remember , could have played if needed I think your exact words were ….....

Pecs injuries don't disappear in a week , unless they are fictitious ..........

Is that connected to the Sternum…

Just in that Geo, the last club injury report stated no injuries, full squad available.

Liddle is obviously injured and there was a tweet from Pascoe replying that Rochow hasn’t been picked the last few weeks because of a groin niggle.

A bruised sternum is not a pec injury but still, it doesn't heal in a week especially if you turn around and play a game of footy while you have it and put some nice rotational forces through your sternum while passing to aggravate it…

LIddle out again this week and makeshift hooker in his place yet again. We are in a mess with this position. Pretenders we shall remain unless this situation is fixed.

Who would have thought with 3 hookers on the roster- Liddle, Godinet and McIlwrick- we would be in this fix. Liddle injury prone and not recovering well from previous injuries, Godinet tried but didnt set the world on fire and McIlwrick out of favour.

Absolutely no to Lichaa. He cannot pass, and that is the first thing you want in your hooker.

You watch much league?
That's all Des had him doing….

I do watch a lot. Passing and passing well are completely different. He's like godinet, he stifles the attack. The bulldogs fans can't stand him so that should give you a good indication as well.
