HOPOATE / RELIGION

He seems a sincere young man. Personally I think it's ridiculous but I'm not going to criticise or denigrate his religious beliefs. I certainly don't think his stance is the easy option to take.

THIS.
It's pretty much sums it up.

He's letting a lot of people down though but as always,
Gotta look out for #1.

Strange.

What an absolute Moron, not cause of his beliefs but for putting the Bulldogs in that situation .
He signs a contract then Round 3 comes out with this?
Hope he doesn't get paid for those 3 Rounds.

You want to earn the big bux and you want to pick and choose? This is where no player is bigger than the club verse comes in.

Gee in my line of work " hey FT can you come in? We have a Resus on it's way and your on call "…...sorry Boss it's Sunday and I don't work, just let them die. :brick:

If I was the Bulldogs? I'd be saying see ya later.

I can see both signs of the coin here…..
Us average joes who work weekends don't have this luxury.
I'm sure NOT all mormons can just throw away their Sunday shifts (penalty rates) because it's their religion.

Lucky you Will...

He never played on Sunday's when he was on 700k a year at the eels. Sure he would pull on a jersey & stand on the field, but would not play. He also was not playing too often on Fridays, Saturdays or Mondays

But FT if you put it on your application and they choose to hire you , that's there call

This case is obviously different but again only Hopoate not if it is a big name player

They probably have a better junior coming through to be honest

Kerrod Holland?

C'mon now…
He's on top dollar - he's first choice winger.
I'm sure they'd rather him there than a 1 game or no experience debutant.

Hopoate is the most overrated player in the NRL bar none Demps

Every time NSW picks him I laugh

can't disagree with u boss.
he's been playing fullback for the dogs.
Brad Abbey waiting for his shot.

Hopa seems a lot like Inu.
Dissinterested and lazy.

But when he's on….. he's real good.

Except he hasn't been on since his God bothering mission.

If the Bulldogs have taken him on KNOWING he won't play Sundays and it's in his contract, then all arguments here are a moot point - they've undertaken him knowing this is going to happen.

The real issue rises if this has NOT been negotiated - the Bulldogs would be well within their right to either force him to play, or breach him and terminate his services.

Thank Christ he doesn't play for WT then.

What an insane situation.

I'm gonna tell my boss that my religion excludes me from working Sunday through Saturday….........

He puts Robbie's melodramas in the shade. The Church also loses out, if he tithes than they lose 10% of his salary - big buck. That will teach them.

And who's to say half of our mob won't turn up to our next Sunday game ( religious or not )
:roll

Yep true to that, Obviously we are speculating.

If the Bulldogs knew full well when they signed him of his stance? Well then obviously it's not Hopoate's fault.

Obviously Bulldogs management aren't going to break this news in the off season when there signing up members.

Nevertheless Hopoate is doing a deservice to his Club as there is to much swapping and changing from week to week and even during there training sessions.

He loves the money but wants to dictate terms…..His not that great to do so " on your bike " I'd be saying.

Well, that can only benefit us - because he is a dangerous player when he wants to be.

However, what a joke.
Hazem & Sonny played through Ramadam but who am I to judge, lol…
Seems a bit soft tho.

Completely different religions. Bizarre comparison to make.

to clear things up;
I wasn't comparing religions but more so the practices of each religion.

it'd be hard playing 80 mins high intensity sport on an empty stomach / no water,
but whatever.

Yeh but the difference is that Hopoate's religion says he can't play at all on Sundays. At least he isnt being a hypocrite like most footballers (and 3/4 of the Christian faith) are with their religious beliefs.

Personally i consider believing in god to be the equivalent of believing that a big pink elephant lives in the sky, but if you are going to believe, supporting your beliefs by actions and behaviour would be nice.

Giving up the sport you love to play for a day as compared to not working on Sunday's seem a bit different to me but then again he does earn a wage from it .
Don't they also donate 10% of their income to the church.

Well, I must say….
I would be very disapointed if say, Tim Simona was of the same beliefs
and we had to exlude him from every Sunday game.

Sucks to be doggie's / fans.
No Hopa for Sunday games = a weaker replacement.
Hope they lose every Sunday game this season.

I keep scratching my head when I think his old man is John. I Admire anyone who devotes themselves to their beliefs no matter what they are, of course as long they are not fanatical and try and force other people to do the same.
