Get rid of players that add Zero like
Packer, McQueen (should never have been signed) ET, Reynolds, Eiso, Mbye (should have never been made captain)

And spend it on quality

This is exactly how you get a top class roster. You have to spend your money wisely.

Totally agree Earl there are good players , but not all good players are good signings ......

And we've had many of those over the years

We need Tim Sheens.. not necessarily him exactly but a head of football operations a la Phil Gould..

The problem with coaches having the major say in building a team is they build for success in the short term sometimes to the detriment of the long term, so they can move on or renegotiate a higher contract in 3 years.

We need someone to oversee the football operations (so not Pascoe) that is someone that doesn’t have ambitions to move onto something else in 4 years. I know we have this but I believe it really needs to be one of those ex coaches that have experience being a head coach.

Ideally before each contract it would be elevated through a series of people

1. Coach
2. Head of football operations
3. In-house salary cap financial Guru
4. Lawyer
5. Tigers agent for Contract negotiations
6. CEO (company image protections)
7. Board of directors (Oversight)

They would all need to work together on every contract.

I would think that is already the case.

@Fitzy05 yeah I agree entirely the right person is important, but how you structure the job ensures you get the right person.

Ie if you believed that Madge was the right person for the job and didn’t want someone overseeing him. Then you would need to offer a long term viable contract so he isn’t looking out for his next gig.

I think a big part of our problem is that our previous coaches have either been unemployed or on there first head coach NRL contract, therefore are trying to find immediate success with what’s available at the time.

Wait til the 6 mil is available then plunder and pillage other clubs like we have been over the years

It seems like having the right recruitment team in place and then having the right recruitment strategy to back that up is also important.
I see the Tigers are very strong in community partnerships is that duplicated with companies able to offer 3rd party Sponsorships??.
Has the Wests group taken their focus off junior development to concentrate on Weststigers Inc.
Does the re Structure of The Wests/Balmain partnership merger change the way the junior development programmes co -exist.
Investment in Junior coaching then proper retention strategies with a introduction to our club/ friendly managers to sign the junior talent.
Perhaps the club could employ its own junior recruitment managers thats interest is to funnel talent just to Weststigers / not the highest bidder.
There must be things that we keep doing over the last 19 years that keeps bringing the same results.
How do we change to move forward??
Perhaps the senior coaches performance is linked to an upgraded contract.
There is a lot going on behind the scenes and confidentialty relating to businessplanning going forward always needs to be held in the strictest confidence in moving forward,to not give competitors an advantage.
So it comes back to us the fans having the trust in the people running the club to make the right decisions.
The fans being key stakeholders through crowd revenue, merchandise sales ,brand strength should be heard through a platform like this forum and when they are not happy, they should be able to offer suggestions knowing that the people charged with taking the club forward are also looking at these suggestions.
I also wonder why every time a club goes bad ,the clubs hire consultants to look at what happened and do a review of the Situation.
Is that just giving the current board and the CEO an excuse to alleviate themselvès from the blame through poor recruitment and to make the coaches and the players the scapegoat!
Why then wouldnt it be prudent to hire expertise in business planning and football club operational planning every offseason to work on going forward not reviewing the past season but planning forward.
Just my thoughts.

You need to either have very good talent spotters or stockpile good juniors.

You sign them long term and cheap. If half a dozen of your 17 are these sort of players, you can then surround them with marquee or rep quality players.

As the young players contracts end, you either replace them with the next off the production line, or upgrade them depending on how good they are.

The idea is you want players hitting first grade in their early 20’s with 2-3 years left on their contract.

Agree. Still need to spend our $1.7m for next year though. Get aggressive.
