How is NSW cups absolute best player not good enough for us?

I mean, sure NSW cup isn't first grade but you would think the absolute best player (David Gower) should be in our side. Especially when you see Moors and Flanagan in the team. Makes no sense to me.

Gower never has a bad game. What does he have to do to get a decent shot.

He played one game last season and got like 10 minutes of game time. Being in the lower grades at the Tigers must suck.

Pritchard, Davis, Gower, Al Schirnack, Andrew Fifita etc. would be in almost every other first grade team round 1 2010.

hahahaha. massive call that the tigers have 4 players in state cup that would be in almost every other first grade team. Near on laughable really. In saying that, id like to see the later 2 get a bench spot soon, although Payton needs one first.

Surely Gower & Fifita/Schirnack will replace Flanagan and Fitzhenry on the bench for the Roosters game!!

It will be this way for a few years.

The NRL in it's infinite wisdom decided to promote Jersey Flegg above the level of the than Reserve grade competition. As such clubs now, to secure young talent, have to put kids who really may not be ready, or ever be ready, for NRL on NRL contracts.

A strange decision in many respects and leaves a group of players stuck between nowhere and nothing

It's definitely a frustrating situation to be in. Gower, Mataka, Schirnack…they could all fill a role off the bench and personally I'd take them over Fitzy and Flanagan at present. I'm confident we'll see Andrew Fifita in first grade later this season and Rhys Pritchard surely must be knocking on the door for a wing spot...But hey, who knows what goes through Sheens head when it comes to choosing his side each week.

I know it sounds strange and I might be exaggerating but I reckon if any of those players had have come up through another team they would be playing first grade by now. Especially David Gower and Rhys Pritchard.

This topic comes up again and again and it opens a can of worms and gets my blood boiling but Geo has it correct - it is politics.

Wish I had the smiley for hitting head against a wall to use right now - that is what it feels like when it comes to seeing state cup players wasted when their talent would be so beneficial to first grade. David Gower is the perfect example.

Thanks Smeg…. didnt we buy Tame Toupo knowing his knees were suspect..thats a worry. any idea how far is Dwyers
return

Yeah thats part of the reason Tame came cheap.

I don't know about Dwyers timeline though.

gower should be in the team at the expense of heigno flanagan moors or fitzy, i wouldnt lose sleep if any of those 4 were dropped to make way for gower especially fitzy, who throught the brilliance of sheens saw 4 minutes game time.

Heigno busted his gut out there last night and yu want him out of the team? Yeh he gave away a few cheap penalties but he wasnt like last year when he consistently ran bad lines, he had a few great runs last night. Gower IMO looks too small to be a first grade prop IMO… especially against the size of them Manly props last night.. they were MASSIVE
