How politicking and empire building ruined Wests Tigers

Transplanted teams have never worked. Northern Eagles Central Coast ring a bell..If for example it was to Perth they deserve their own team..

Dave Smith has been quoted as saying the existing Clubs need to consolidate before expansion is considered….Wests Tigers has a large supporter base that would be lost in relocation...I don't feel the NRL would like that...

How many transplanted teams have we had to base these facts on ??

No one likes Manly Geo

HaHa..way to ignore the rest of the post Happy…Manly will do that to you....doesn't change the fact it failed miserably..

OK lets look at the success of previous expansion teams shall we...Western Reds, South Qld Crushers, Adelaide Rams, Hunter Mariners all failed..Melbourne Storm the only success due to the fact News Ltd poor millions into the joint and cover their financial losses...

What makes you think a relocated Wests Tigers would be a success?

I honestly think that Newcastle was never going to be able to support 2 sides , the Broncos forced the Crushers to die for their own benefits and Super League never helped the Crushers Add to that the right consortium didn't win the bid either (I'm sure Watto would agree with that )

The Rams and the Reds were heavily affected by the Super League war also

My honest reasoning why the Tigers would succeed where others have failed is this

We are already two clubs so we would probably have some support from the public

The second factor ( and this is only based from my own experience ) is most people have a soft spot for the Tigers

I don't think anyone I have ever met has ever said they hate the Tigers , even the Cowboys supporters I know don't hate the Tigers

Most cities /towns have a Tigers club or even a side which is black and gold based in it

I know a lot of people write this idea off , but if the NRL decided to put some thought into it and we can't improve as a club on and off field I think at some stage in the future it is a distinct possibility

You right off the failures Geo but we have had just as many success stories Canberra ,Newcastle ,Cowboys ,Brisbane, Warriors

The only club you can honestly use is the Northern Eagles and Manly are like Collingwood

Some people love them but most hate them

All the other clubs would of been affected by the NRL /SL war and we can't get a true reading either way

If they NRL had persisted long term with some markets (Crushers ,Perth for example ) whether they could of been a success

I still maintain the NRL got rid of the Crushers to try and create goodwill after between the Broncos and the NRL

The Broncos were the main agitators behind SL and getting rid of the Crushers was an olive branch in my opinion

I reckon you could move the Tigers to at least 4 different market places and they would succeed

Second NZ side , Ipswich ,PNG ,Perth

I honestly think the NRL and rugby league as a game and in general is on a downwards spiral

Crowds are well down on previous years and the NRL has no idea what the rugby league fans want , because if the did they would making changes to many different aspects of the game both on and off field

We seem to be heading down the road of the have and the have nots , people in the modern era aren't happy with the scheduling and night football (particularly Saturday nights and Monday nights ) seems to be on the nose

The fans want complete home and away football , SOO to be stand alone , more Sunday day games , more transparency around salary caps ,better officiating and more football brought to the regional areas ,better promotion of the game

It is garbage that our best advertising campaign was over 20 years ago and we have no where near even matching it

And to be honest the NRL has dropped the ball in almost every area of the above points and in some cases completely ignore it

We could bring in so many small things that would paltry in monetary outlay , yet could help spark our game

Mid season transfers , Mid week comp during SOO (to help make SOO stand alone ) , NZ SOO , NYC SOO should be able to be watched live FTA

The competition in my opinion needs some vitality added to halt the slide

One way will be to either add sides to the comp or move some sides around

And if the Tigers or Sharks can't pull themselves together within 5 years financially they seriously need to be looked at

The Adelaide Rams were playing out of Hindmarsh Stadium and it was packed to the rafters every game. They then moved to the Adelaide Oval to attract the bigger crowds. Just about everyone I spoke to at the games were season ticket holders. The Wests Tigers would be a huge success story if they moved to Adelaide and would be welcomed with open arms. The Adelaide Oval has just been completely refurbished and rebuilt from the ground up and has the latest and greatest seating, conditions and training facilities that money can buy. Come on down boys we are waiting for you.

But thats just it.

We gave got good branding and are well supported so that is a tick for the way its set up.

Which other club in Sydney has more than 1 cup last 15yrs. Only Manly and they had Dank. Look at the dogs 1 cup 2 spoons plus they scored up at Coffs.

Nothing to write home about.

All our issues are connected to Balmain going broke. If we end up in Perth that will be the only reason not the board.

Our inability to pay players under and over the table is also connected to this.

**_We have among the worst membership numbers in the NRL, so how are we "well supported"?_**
It's not about having more than one premiership, it's about the fact that 12 out of 15 years we have failed to finish in the top 8 of a 16 team competition. That is simply unacceptable. We are a losing club.

I started another thread comparing the success of the Western Sydney Wanderers in the supposed rugby league strong-hold. Many posters think their success is due to lots of things other than the true reason. They SOLD their brand better than most other sporting clubs I know, before they played their first game.
With all the advantages Wests Tigers have, they got excited with a membership reaching 10,000 during this season. The Wanderers have reached 12,000 season ticket-holding members TWO MONTHS BEFORE THEIR SEASON STARTS and at the moment the tickets are only available for renewing members! The tickets will be made available next week to the waiting list of members, who have not become season ticket holders, because Parramatta only holds about 20,000 fans. Remember they sold their total seating capacity for the last season well before the season started and could have sold many more and they will do it again this season.
One big failing of Wests Tigers is their lack of good marketing from before their start date fifteen years ago! The Board has ignored this problem for the whole time.

Don't kid yourself Happy, no Perth based team will ever succeed. You have no idea of the opposition to the sport at this side of the country.

Like others I'am against relocation of teams, I think any new teams need to start from the ground up with a totally new and fresh identity. In saying that, if my team was on its last rites and relocation was its only chance of survival I may change my mind, but I know their are a lot of country and interstate supporters who get very little chance to see their team live and are long distant supporters, but I have been lucky and have always been within a short drive from LO for the past forty years, so I dont think I could cope with being a foxtel supporter of my team

Happy Iam with you on this subject, I am not sure why but the NRL is not the dominate force it was. With Souths making a real charge at the title and Parra climbing quickly off the floor, I would have thought their would be a real buz around the game, but it is not the case.

Could write for hours on the subject, but they need to address so many issues or they will continue to give up ground to their competitors.I think the NRL could do with a open forum with the fan base and see what people are really saying and than act on what they hear from the fans
