How was Marshall a nominee?

Can someone tell me how the hell was Marshall in the top 4 halfbacks for 2012?
Last night watching the Dally M's couldn't believe he was a nominee for halfback of the year .
Did i miss something throughout the year?

35 try assists, 6 more than halfback of the year cooper Cronk. 5th highest point scorer and also led the comp in line break assists. No doubt we saw Benji make some clangers this year but he was also instrumental in the Tigers scoring almost half their points, and there were some games where he did stand out. By no means was he at his best, but I can see reason why he was ranked in the top 4.

Yeah won't disagree with the stats, but top 4 halfbacks ? Both Reynolds were better consistently ,so was Cherry -Evans, Cronk, even Jeff Robson had a whale of a season ,
I just recall seeing Marshall with alot of missed tackles , and taking alot of bad options.
He was moved in and out of halfback anyway, for me wasn't in the top 4 nominees regardless of the stats.

Despite those stats, there is no way he was top 4.

What were his stats on

Tackles made?
Tackles missed?
Kick meters?
Runs made?
Meters made in attack?
Errors?

…and most importantly, how many times did he stand up in a clutch situation when we were in an arm wrestle and get us home?

I would like to know another stat. Not how many times Benj got the ball, but how long (on average) he held onto it once he got it. I think he would easily top the card for an NRL halfback that had the ball in his hands for the longest average time. And, there's the problem, I think for our rather unimpressive centres in 2012\. Poor distribution and linking with outside backs. Benj just hangs onto it too long while he tries to be a game breaker. We need an organising crafty half like Cronk or Cherry-Evans ASAP.

Let's see … Here are the other halfbacks, most of them Marshall was better than. Most of them play second fiddle to a five-eighth (Cowboys, Knights, Dogs, Raiders, Sharks) or just didn't play as well as Marshall (Broncos, Titans, Roosters, Warriors).

Cowboys - Michael Morgan/Ray Thompson (Marshall wins)
Broncos - Peter Wallace (Marshall wins)
Titans - Scott Prince (Marshall wins)
Knights - Tyrone Roberts (Marshall wins)
Manly - Daly Cherry-Evans (Marshall loses)
Roosters - Mitchell Pearce (Marshall wins)
Souths - Adam Reynolds (Marshall loses)
Penrith - Luke Walsh (Marshall wins)
Parramatta - Chris Sandow (Marshall wins)
Cronulla - Jeff Robson (Marshall wins)
Dragons - Ben Hornby (Marshall wins)
Bulldogs - Kris Keating (Marshall wins)
Raiders - Sam Williams (Marshall wins)
Storm - Cooper Cronk (Marshall loses)
Warriors - Shaun Johnson (Marshall wins)

So I guess it has a lot to do with the fact, that in general, the quality of the 2012 crop of halfbacks was pretty bad.

I'm pretty sure the 4 nominees in each position are the 4 highest Dally M vote getters in each position. thats the only thing considered. not stats or reputations. The winner of each positional award is obviously he who finished with the most Dally M points.

Benji is better than Reynolds even this year, Reynolds is yet another myth created by channel 9\. Sutton and Inglis are the keys to that spine, and the dominate forward pack is the reason they look so good. Reynolds is nothing more than a flat track bully like the majority of the Souths side and will be exposed in the finals. A straight sets outing in the finals would not surprise me and even if they get to the Preliminary they will progress no further.

I HATE SOUTHS.

Tackles missed - Benji was 5th, shocking without a doubt.
Kick metres - He ranked 4th from memory.

On a sidenote, Aaron Woods ranked 2nd for metres made behind Brett Morris and I think he was 4th or 5th for most hitups.

That's not true. Kasiano was nowhere near Woods in the votes. Sam Burgess was higher than both.

Well thats how it usually works, a little bit of rigging involved doesn't surprise me in the least though. i missed the nominees for most positions this year, was burgess atleast nominated for prop of the year?

Marshall beats Wallace Mac? not on this yrs form

Wallace has been horrible second half of the season. Broncos fans wanted him dropped

This is the problem with stats and why I don't bother with them. They don't tell the full story.

I think people are right though, it says more about the other halves going around

Really, Adam Reynolds is a myth? He is definitely more of the spine than Sutton.
I've heard little to nothing of him (Sutton) this year.
Reynolds has been good for them this season along with their solid forward pack and their quality fullback in Inglis.

Thats all the majority on here see…......the negatives! As soon as someone makes a mistake or doesn't perform out of their skin, the knives are quickly out! People need to look a little more closely instead of being so negatively superficial! :unamused:
His benchmark outstanding brilliance we all love to see every week may not have been so obviously on display all season, but the stats speak for themselves. Good on you Benji, its a nice accolade after a tough season!

marshall was awful all year in bottom four not top four woods polled same points woods was outstanding in a shit team
