Humphreys and Skando disappointed with Campbelltown's crowd

I love the people who complain about the food and drink prices, bring your own and so no to your kids. Going to the football is about football not like a day at the royal easter show. Took my kids most weekends for best part of 15 years never got one can of soft drink or any fast food in all those years. Told them straight up we didnt have the cash and they loved the footy and still do m any years later

Yeh me too.
A doz LA Ice Colas at Woolies is $6.00 or 50c each….4 does me and the young fella each game we go to along with some home made ham or chook snitzel rolls, musli bars and fruit or a big bag of chip from wollies
Beats getting ripped off, beats qeueing and beats gastro.

Am I the only one whose sees this as the biggest over reaction in history.

We got a reasonable crowd, without being great. For a number of reasons.

Even the title of the article is misleading, it wasn't like Humpries was complaining about how disappointing the crowd is.

People are reading to much into the whole thing

Blocker was bagging out the attendance numbers on 2GB after the game..

Agreed, Humphrey's acknowledges that crowds were low across the entire weekend. The comments by Skando were most curious to me - is it his job to be getting involved in such discussion? I understand he may have been used as a local to fire up the area, but his comments can be interpreted as sinking the boot into the Campbelltown area.

The only positive I see is that we are filthy we "only" got 13,000 against an out of town team. Other Sydney clubs would be satisfied with that crowd yet we want more - let's hope this translates into effective marketing.

You can't expect fans to show up and support our club when the club won't support there base team of the district

The avg fan, family out Campbelltown way wouldn't either give this a passing thought. I truly believe there are other factors around this. They need to do some research and find out why fans did not flock to see a WT team trying to get it's 5th win in a row and get it's roll on for the serious end of the season…

I agree
The Campbelltown Area is a great big mixture of people from all parts of sydney, young families looking for affordable housing and new estates they dont all support the Magpies or the the Tigers,so in turn they bring there other team loyaties to the District.

Sorry, thats just fanciful. Even allowing for the migration of younger families towards the south west, the Magpies had a generation to build a connection with the community and the Wests Tigers have had 13 years. It's 30 years of presence in the McCarthur. If 13,000 punters on a genuinely great Sunday afternoon are the end result of that ongoing presence, there is a problem, which urgently needs attention. Winning hearts and minds is not difficult, it takes resources, time and some determination, that's all

We need to get the ex Balmain people to go to Campbelltown and vice versa.
I am from the Balmain side of things and grew up near Leichhardt oval (Hubert street…you might know it).
I now have kids who follow the WestsTigers and don't know who 'Balmain" or "Western Suburbs" were and don't want to know.
I moved out of the area 30 odd years ago and still to this day go to all the LO games, and SFS games.
This year for the first time I ventured out to Campbelltown with a rooster mate to watch the trial game. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was comfortable and good viewing. And it has a railway station adjacent which is a huge advantage and i couldn't believe how easy it was to get to.
I didn't go to the Monday night game at Campbelltown cause of work and didn't go last Sunday as my son was ill so we all watched it on CH 9 not knowing the score. (how bad is that by the way with the commercials, how painful!). I do intend to go to future games there.
I'm sure there are hundreds if not thousands of ex Balmain fans, who are like me and i ask these fans to give Campbelltown a go. Its one of our home grounds!

Jesus get over it. Your basing 30 years of presence off one bloody day. Real intelligent :crazy

Good to read that the CEO was concerned about the crowd. Lets hear what he plans to do about it now…

Maybe selling cheap game day memberships as he did in round 1 at Leichhardt…..especially when we are playing out of state teams that don't have a large supporter base in Sydney,
or maybe the same as Parra are doing this week for Luke Burts 250th game, selling GA tickets for $2.50 with every other ticket sold.

An empty seats brings nothing to the club!

Can't be too difficult to come up with some ideas

If Concord was as close to Campbelltown as it is to Leichhardt, the locals would accept them more as their team. Then we'd be saying what's wrong with Leichhardt. Another thought is people in Campbelltown are less likely to have money in tough times. But in the end you can hardly say Leichhardt's crowd averages are really that much greater.

There's only one possible way to stop the debate about Campbelltown…play all games at Leichhardt! :stuck_out_tongue:

No seriously it was an ok crowd, there may have even been a bit of a "its going to be sold out" feeling in the community meaning some may have been resigned to the fact that they had to watch it on TV.

For a lot of families its also a big commitment - the whole day is taken up with an afternoon game and as others have said its not a cheap day out (if you aren't a member).

Really its a non issue as far as I'm concerned.

It comes with the territory of being an NRL team that you can't pick your start times, but I wonder if the crowd would have bigger if it was the 2pm match.

I would hazard to guess that pay tv subscription in the Macarthur area would be below the average of the metropolitan area.

Exactly right, the whole thing has been blown out of proportion.

As someone posted earlier, take 3000 out of LO against the Warriors ( I'm sure that not an over exaggeration ) and the crowd numbers are very similar.
I am sure if that was the case we would not even be having this discussion only for the fact that it happened at CSS

And just call them balmain tigers to go along with that idea also?

Balmain left leichhardt oval at end of 1994 to move to parra stadium as LO was no longer suitable. So in 2012 we have people wanting all WT games at LO while we have a great stadium at campbelltown used for 4 games a year.
