Steve Michaels also…

Former Gold Coast Titan Ashley Harrison charged by police in ongoing cocaine crisis at the NRL club

RETIRED Queensland great Ashley Harrison is the latest former Titan charged over the cocaine crisis engulfing the NRL club.

A warrant has also been issued for former Titan Steve Michaels, who is currently playing in England.

Harrison, 33, has been fronted by officers from the Crime and Corruption Commission and ordered to face court next month on charges of supplying cocaine.

He and Michaels are the seventh and eighth football identities linked to the Titans to be charged since the scandal broke a week ago.

Harrison spent the final six years of his 276-game NRL career at the Titans and was a workhorse for the Queensland State of Origin team during the Maroons’ record-breaking eight straight winning streak.

The CCC expects to arrest Michaels when he returns to Australia.

He is expected to be charged with 10 counts of supplying cocaine.

Geez this is spiralling out of control fast. We've got problems if we can't beat them.

It doesn't look like the Titans have been using their spare time doing additional training.

Every bloody year when the Season is about to begin something always happens to our game :brick: .
I really feel for the good footballers that do the right thing to promote the game and be good role models for kids looking up to them , then you have these selfish bastards wrecking it for the rest and even for us fans it's a kick in the nuts .

let it go - it's always been the same - rememeber wests and manly in melbourne preseason back in 79 or 78 - nothing's changed - i feel your agony - but i wont be apart of it. life is too short. but great point.

Me neither, tig. A couple of the ones being charged have taken me by complete surprise - Jason Smith and now Harrison, in particular. Just goes to show how easy it is for people to feign niceness and decency in the public eye, but in the end, it's who you are when no one is looking that counts most.

We as adults can handle all this. Shouldn't faze or surprise us. But it's the young impressionable kids that look up to them, idolise and want to be like them, that i feel for. Some of these players have young children of their own. They are the real victims in this.

It is ironic that these characters have plenty of strength of character when playing football but very little in their day to day life. Doesn't this say something about professional rugby league today? Most footballers can handle it but there are many more which absolutely can't.

Exactly right.
I'd hate to be those kids having to front up to school and hear their father being talked about the way they probably will be

REDS SUSPEND & FINE HUNT

Written by STAFF WRITERS, March 5, 2015
THE ARU and Queensland Reds have fined Karmichael Hunt $30,000 and suspended him for six weeks after pleading guilty to four counts of drug possession.

The ARU decided against sacking the code-hopper who will also undergo a drug treatment and rehabilitation program and be placed on monitored and targeted drug testing program.

As a result Hunt will be available for selection in two weeks time when the Reds clash with the Rebels at AAMI Park.

Hunt will be allowed to train and use the facilities at Ballymore when the main Reds squad are not training there until his ban is lifted on March 22.

“We are extremely disappointed in Karmichael’s actions as illicit substances have no place in Rugby,” ARU CEO Bill Pulver said.

“However we acknowledge that he is sincerely remorseful and has cooperated with the investigation and our integrity enquiries throughout this process.

“Karmichael has also accepted the penalty and consequences of his actions and understands the requirements of a professional athlete and the expectations of our code.”

QRU CEO Jim Carmichael echoed Pulver’s comments.

“Each individual will have their own perspective and opinion on this issue and this specific case based on their personal life experience,” Pulver said.

“In arriving at these penalties we have all been acutely mindful of our responsibilities to sport and the wider community, as well as the long-term interests of the game, our stakeholders and our fans.

“However, major professional sport in Australia also regards the use of illicit substances as a welfare issue in the first instance.

“Karmichael has shown significant contrition and remorse throughout this process and Rugby is now applying the rationale in its Illicit Drugs Policy to ensure Karmichael receives the appropriate education and rehabilitation in advance of a return to the Rugby field.

“We have also decided that in the circumstances, Karmichael will stand down as a vice-captain of the Reds. The Reds have a significant leadership group to offer support to our captain James Slipper.”

So he get's off scot free? What a load of crap.

I think ASADA can still ban him though cant they?

A 2 week suspension, and a small fine? He may not have been playing rugby at the time but standards need to be set, and examples made. This 'punishment' basically says its ok to take drugs if you're famous as all you get is a slap on the wrists and a couple of weeks at home playing PlayStation as a punishment.

What a load of crap , $2500 fine and no conviction recorded .
Society's gone to the dogs .
