I love Utai

I bagged the signing and thought it was a crazy move, From a defensive move he has been brilliant, his hard yardage has been great off our line similar to TNT but his attacking awareness or should I say positioning is still way off. A few time Benji conjured some magic up down his side and he did not read it. But hey its early days and so far the bargain buy of the season, thanks Folkeys

UTAI UTAI UTAI…was sung loud and proud in bay 13 tonight...

fantastic again Matty UTAI

I have never eaten more words.

He has been OUTSTANDING. What he does for the team in our own half is just too good. Made some really good decisions in defense too.

Loving it.

Bye bye Beau?

Like most of the forum members I couldn't understand the signing of Matt Utai and like a heap of other members since I have been proven wrong, old Rabbs on the TV commentary got it right when Mitch Brown scored, it was the lead up from Utai with the great chase that set it up.
Said it before, when all the injured players are back it's going to be great competition for a starting spot.

Couldn't agree more!! And I am so glad he has proven me wrong!! Sometimes it is really good to be wrong!! Go Utai!! Lovin his work at the moment!!

I'm glad I said I'd let him play a couple if games before questioning his signing. His swinging arm back in 06 left me with a poor opinion of him. He is an honest player who toils for his metres and his girth and stature make him incredibly hard to bring down.

I love his runs. He has been a good pick up this year. I do still worry that teams will target him more with high kicks and grubber kicks behind him. But has been a pleasure surprise and hope he continues his form

Glad someone else picked up on it yes his attack and the bollocking runs that get us on the front foot have been fantastic but it's his defence that is also impressing me, he seems to be reading it well and making good decisions mostly staying out but also being able to hold the attack up long enough for his inside man to get across and shut it down.

This guy has proven to be a great buy. I was one of the doubting Thomases but WOW he is doing well. His chase on the kick from Marshall was fantastic.

Yes , I,m now a follower. Could end up being BUY of the year.

Not to mention diffused a good high kick, oughta give him a little more confidence when challenging the high ball.

So good to have someone that knows what he's doing out there…no hesitation, no pirhouettes, dohnuts, hopping or skipping
Happy to say there was me and I think Yoss, just about the only two prepared to give him a chance - time to toot my own trumpet
His maturity as a couple have mentioned is also very evident, compared to his Dogs days....I say thats just a natural evolution with his surroundings today - staff/teammates - to his dogs days

Just finished eating my hat.
That kick/chase effort that led to Brown's try was sensational.
He is really dragging in defenders when he runs, just like Tuiaki did.

Great to see utai playing well, holds his form & he stays in first grade, also with daniella out for the season they should move brown in to daniellas position.

Utai has been unbelievable for us this year. Cudos needs to go to Folksey who bought him over.

I honestly cant see how Beau can make his way back into the team (barring injuries), unless he plays as a utility off the bench!! And that's no disrepect to Beau but more a compliment for Matt.

Like a few of you had said, he's lost his arrogance he had at the dogs, and has matured since being out of first grade. I guess playing for a contract wll do that sometimes. I just hope we offer him a long term one based on his efforts so far.

I have an unashamed man love for utai as well!
He doesn't have the most skill compared to other players but he gives 110% every week and doesn't stop all game, really enjoy watching him play.
And I admit like others I thought he would be pretty bad but has totally proven me wrong.

I will put my hand up and eat some humble pie! I never thought he was going to work out, but he has done so well, the effort is there for all of us to see.
