Josh is trying to calm the waters. Good on him.

How is it ‘extremely’ stupid CB? I’ll guarantee that if Fatty had said it everyone would be having laugh.

Without going down the rabbit hole, I think there needs to be a level of professionalism displayed. It wasn't here. If it was a Chinese player and she said Ching Chong Chow or some such nonsense I'm sure it would have elicit the same reaction. But this is 2GB so I'm not surprised. And Fatty is as funny as a fart in an elevator.

Doesn't excuse the violence and threats against her though, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway that's my opinion on it, feel free to disagree. I'm not going to get sucked into debate on it. I think Josh is taking a good position in asking his community to not react so emotionally to comments. Especially like Fonua-Blake who thinks his ancestral name being trashed is not on but the irony is lost on him when he likes to call officials spastics.

Fair enough I definitely agree that there needs to be a level of professionalism that she certainly did not display with that joke. My point is I think we’re all pretty used to seeing and hearing some of her more illustrious colleagues stoop below that level of professionalism many times over, but they are never called out for it. I’m fairly certain the whole thing wouldn’t have been an issue if one of her male colleagues said it. Just an observation.

Fair call and you're probably right. It's not acceptable at all IMO but Continuous Call is pretty low brow. I think everyone has come out of this looking silly.

Not a chance. There's a reason he's unemployed. As is Sam Newman from the Afl. Dinosaurs of the past. Only reason Eddie McGuire is still around is he's well connected

Please. No one has laughed at Fatty for 25 yeas

What she said was in poor taste, but threatening her & her family with violence is worse in my opinion. No one should ever receive violent threats for poor judgement of words, even if they are offensive.

I'm not a fan of Erin. In my mind, she is the reason why the Footy Show's rating plummeted to it's death.

I said a post last week I think Josh has a captain in him, when we were all bagging out & questioning Mbye's captaincy.

Random.

He defends her but doesn't clarify why her racist comments should be tolerated. Because she promotes the sport and sometimes helps players?

She said the words. She admitted it. Case closed.

Don’t really like Erin too, but why didn’t Shane Shackleton and Beau Ryan cop anywhere near this backlash when they made jokes about Pacific Islanders on channel 9...

What she said was wrong and she didn’t necessarily think much about what she said before she said it which isn’t an excuse, however she does not deserve to receive such social abuse towards not only herself but her young child where she feels like it’s unsafe to walk outside

If you feel like that’s warranted then I’d question ones mindset and morals - not a dig at you or anything just stating this to anyone who agrees with the treatment she’s getting over it

I also don’t think Fonua-Blake has the ability to shame anyone on there actions or mistakes - isn’t this the bloke who bashed his wife then referred to a ref as disabled and retarded on two seperate occasions, bit hypocritical if you ask me to shame someone on a genuine mistake when you’re that man....

Josh, much respect to you and your family for raising a gentleman like yourself it takes a real man to speak out on a situation like this in the manner you did - excellent role model on and off the field, hopefully a future Wests Tigers captain to come!

Is she receiving legitimate death threats though? People calling her or leaving notes under her front door threatening her? Doubtful. A couple of social media warriors doesn't equate to death threats. I admit I've got no specific idea what's happening though.
Perhaps racist is a term a touch too strong. But there's no denying she's a highly insensitive, brain dead moron.
Personally I don't like her at all. She repulses me, doesn't mean she can't still be generous or have some nice qualities. And no she certainly deserves to feel safe with her family. No problems with Josh standing up against that. He is a leader and I rate him highly. Her comments don't warrant that kind of abuse.

I think we can both agree it wouldn’t be “a couple” as Erin is very widely disliked and the public has expressed that quite clearly, so it doesn’t surprise me when I hear she has received death threats online, doesn’t need to be physical letters even a simple msg threatening herself or young child is so far from wrong and unfair it’s quite sad

My point is we can’t pick and choose who we wanna critique for alleged racism defeats the whole purpose - You don’t see any islander players or fans coming out attacking Beau Ryan or Shane Shackleton for making jokes targeted towards there culture even tho they’ve done it on numerous occasions on a weekly basis, why bc they’re former players?

What Erin did wasn’t necessarily the right thing, do I think she deserves the backlash she’s received due to this.... no definitely not and props to Josh for acknowledging that and standing up towards the issue!

I can't see how putting on a faux polynesian accent and saying “hooka looka mooka hooka fooka” is anything but racist.

I thought this kind of humour was left behind with Mahatma Cote?

I prefer footy players to just focus on playing footy, don't get involved.

And on the other hand, when did we become such bunch of petty sensitive Nancy's?

If you think mocking someone's name is racist you obviously don't know what racism is.

I'm of Italian descent, yet you wouldn't know if you saw me, I have an Italian sounding surname and everybody makes fun of it, not once have I ever cried "racism", because I have a sense of humour and understand there's no mallace intended.

When I went to school 3 of my best friends were a Turk a Korean and a Yugoslavian, my Turk friend called our Korean friend 'Gook or nip', my Korean friend called his Turkish friend 'Wog' they all called my 'skippy or white boy' and we all did it in good humour and laughed about it.

The problem these days is everyone wants to find a reason to be offended and social media has given them a place to find it.

Agree with the first half of your comment and don't like this as a thread topic given some responses are the very definition of casual racism.
I've seen comments trying to negate the argument of it not being part of an ingrained culture.
But just because someone only does it once or a person of the same race makes a joke about ethnic slurs doesn't dispel the fact/action.
The shrugging off of it is the real issue.

Exactly! I don’t believe either of them have ever received death threats for their insensitive jokes either. If you’ve ever read any of the comments under the articles written about their gaffes most of the punters are actually on their side!

Found her to be nice and quite genuine when I met her, though she needed to be called out on this, just not threatened. Expect that sort of crap from Brohman and the other wads over at that station, but not from someone half their age, even after allowing for her upbringing.

Ballsy stand taken by Aloiai considering he’s publicly supporting someone who was condemned by some of his peer group. His reaction in the final minute of Friday nights game when he realised we had kept Broncos scoreless, was sheer emotion and passion. I know he only plays 55-60mins, but he’d have to be considered a future Captain of Wests Tigers
