Fonua-Blake should be the last bloke concerned with offensive comments..

Josh has always been an impressive humble young man...so no surprise with his stance..becoming a great leader on and off the field..

He shouldn’t be allowed to walk the streets let alone play NRL. He should shut his mouth and consider himself lucky to be allowed to play

Random.

He defends her but doesn't clarify why her racist comments should be tolerated. Because she promotes the sport and sometimes helps players?

She said the words. She admitted it. Case closed.

Doesn't mean she should be receiving deaths threats.

Don’t really like Erin too, but why didn’t Shane Shackleton and Beau Ryan cop anywhere near this backlash when they made jokes about Pacific Islanders on channel 9...

What she said was wrong and she didn’t necessarily think much about what she said before she said it which isn’t an excuse, however she does not deserve to receive such social abuse towards not only herself but her young child where she feels like it’s unsafe to walk outside

If you feel like that’s warranted then I’d question ones mindset and morals - not a dig at you or anything just stating this to anyone who agrees with the treatment she’s getting over it

I also don’t think Fonua-Blake has the ability to shame anyone on there actions or mistakes - isn’t this the bloke who bashed his wife then referred to a ref as disabled and retarded on two seperate occasions, bit hypocritical if you ask me to shame someone on a genuine mistake when you’re that man....

Josh, much respect to you and your family for raising a gentleman like yourself it takes a real man to speak out on a situation like this in the manner you did - excellent role model on and off the field, hopefully a future Wests Tigers captain to come!

Yep very impressive by Josh, just what we need, a man willing to stand up to his peers and call them out over something he believes in.

Good on you Josh! He is right, the report was all out of context (no surprise there) and honestly some of these guys are just being a bit precious aren’t they? And that idiot Hopoate threatening violence...like really? This from the serial bum poker, grow up you fool!

In any case, how many times have we heard those dribblers Johns & Fittler jokingly carry on about some of the names of players, but they never get criticised or branded racist over their inane comments. We never hear squat about it. Seriously, the whole thing is just a mountain made out of a molehill because of the current climate we’re all living in.

Very true, those idiots in channel 9’s commentary box never get called out. I heard them say some stupid stuff not so long ago regarding player names. They’re a joke in themselves anyway so it’s no wonder no one is paying attention.

Lots of people might disagree with me but I think that attributing the label "racist" to Erin's comments is setting the bar too low.

Racism is a really serious evil that permeates many societies. It often describes races as having or not having certain attributes. They're lazy or drunkards or all terrorists or they lack intelligence. It adversely defines people solely on the basis of their race.

Erin was having a bit of laugh because some Pacific Islander names tangle up our Anglo Saxon tongues. Ignorant and stupid for someone in the media spotlight but I think that to call it racist only trivialises the horrible thing that racism really is.

I acknowledge that comments such as hers might reveal an underlying racism but the comments themselves are hardly racist in my view

As are all the Irish jokes.

Please, it’s the great Australian pastime taking the **** out on a mate, community or nation.

Some people are all too eager to jump on the victim bandwagon.

Exactly! As an Irishman I’ve copped it all my life, but do I take offence and say it’s racist? No! As you said it’s the great Australian pastime to take the ****. I honestly can’t see the ‘racism’ in what she said, it’s not like she called them derogatory names directly because of the colour of their skin. People are being way too precious about this, but that’s the climate we now live in.

And Fonua-Blake...I wonder if he thinks it would ok if he received death threats from disability groups or even the ref’s association after his expletive laden tirade at the officials a couple of weeks ago...I’m guessing not.

Its the old story, someone has to be offended by everything that was said. It isn't racist, and those that claim it is are just being precious.

Its one of them things that you ask yourself " What happens when I stop being offended?" . The answer, nothing. Its your petty carry on that gives this crap life. Stop being offended and its goes away......

He was interviewed yesterday on 2gb .. after listening to that interview I have no hesitation with him becoming the captain of the team! He is humble and very inspiring individual and well grounded ..

Yeah, he’s growing in stature that’s for sure. He can have the the big C next his name as far as I’m concerned.

Is she receiving legitimate death threats though? People calling her or leaving notes under her front door threatening her? Doubtful. A couple of social media warriors doesn't equate to death threats. I admit I've got no specific idea what's happening though.
Perhaps racist is a term a touch too strong. But there's no denying she's a highly insensitive, brain dead moron.
Personally I don't like her at all. She repulses me, doesn't mean she can't still be generous or have some nice qualities. And no she certainly deserves to feel safe with her family. No problems with Josh standing up against that. He is a leader and I rate him highly. Her comments don't warrant that kind of abuse.

What she said was extremely stupid. The reaction inciting violence and threats was equally stupid.

Josh is trying to calm the waters. Good on him.

How is it ‘extremely’ stupid CB? I’ll guarantee that if Fatty had said it everyone would be having laugh.

Without going down the rabbit hole, I think there needs to be a level of professionalism displayed. It wasn't here. If it was a Chinese player and she said Ching Chong Chow or some such nonsense I'm sure it would have elicit the same reaction. But this is 2GB so I'm not surprised. And Fatty is as funny as a fart in an elevator.

Doesn't excuse the violence and threats against her though, not by any stretch of the imagination.

Anyway that's my opinion on it, feel free to disagree. I'm not going to get sucked into debate on it. I think Josh is taking a good position in asking his community to not react so emotionally to comments. Especially like Fonua-Blake who thinks his ancestral name being trashed is not on but the irony is lost on him when he likes to call officials spastics.

Fair enough I definitely agree that there needs to be a level of professionalism that she certainly did not display with that joke. My point is I think we’re all pretty used to seeing and hearing some of her more illustrious colleagues stoop below that level of professionalism many times over, but they are never called out for it. I’m fairly certain the whole thing wouldn’t have been an issue if one of her male colleagues said it. Just an observation.
