I was getting stale at the Tigers: Sironen

A fresh start is something that I needed. I was getting a bit stale there. I wasn't training as hard and started making a few excuses for myself, thinking I was going better than I was,

At least he's honest.

Here's the full article, very Benji Marshall-esque:

Manly recruit Curtis Sironen has made the honest admission that he was getting stale and was resting on his laurels at the Wests Tigers, where his surname meant he had a lot to live up to.
>
Sironen has a big chance to re-ignite his stalled NRL career after a strong off-season that has him pencilled to start in the second row for the Sea Eagles in round one.
>
The 22-year-old was impressive in his first outing for Manly at last week's Auckland Nines, and was initially shocked by the new colours but embraced the club's rich history.
\
\
"It's the first time I've had something that's not a Tigers jersey on," Sironen said.
>
"I'm gonna play with a lot of honour. As soon as I come to the club you can see there's a lot of pride about playing for Manly. It's a staunch club like that."
>
Big things were expected of Sironen - the son of Balmain Tigers great Paul - after Tim Sheens handed him his first grade debut as a teenager in 2012, where he spent part of the year partnering Benji Marshall in the halves.
>
But he fell out of favour under Jason Taylor, making just eight appearances last year, before gaining a release from the final two years of his deal and moving to Manly.
>
Paul Sironen played 246 games in the black and gold and represented Australia and NSW.
>
"A fresh start is something that I needed. I was getting a bit stale there. I wasn't training as hard and started making a few excuses for myself, thinking I was going better than I was," he said.
>
"It was a bit of reality shock coming to Manly. No one cares what you've done or who you are. It's just about how hard you train. I just want to try and cement a starting spot now for NRL."
>
Built with the size of a back-rower but the skills of a halfback, Sironen said new coach Trent Barrett spent the summer encouraging him to bring out his creativity, and he responded with a two-try effort in Auckland.
>
"He just wants me to play, use my best qualities. I still have to do all that tough stuff out the back of the field like back-rowers do these days," he said.
>
"If I get to play a bit creative like I can, so be it. 'Baz' has been really good. He was half the reason I went here. Just a good guy first, then a good coach."

"I'm gonna play with a lot of honour. As soon as I come to the club you can see there's a lot of pride about playing for Manly. It's a staunch club like that."

Hmmm yeh interesting…subtle dig?

I see your Sironen and raise you an Idris

I had massive hopes for Sironen but unfortunately he just wasn't able to reach his potential at Tigers, whatever the reason. Sometimes a change of scenery can do wonders for your career. I honestly hope he becomes the back rower we all wished him to be, good luck Siro.

Quite Benji Marshall-esque indeed. I'm happy to see the back of him. In saying that though, time is certainly on his side - surprised he's only 22.

I too was surprised to read he is twenty two, must be a typo. Either way, I still think he is a first grader and particularly if he gets a rest through interchange.

"He just wants me to play, use my best qualities. I still have to do all that tough stuff out the back of the field like back-rowers do these days,"

If he did the tough stuff expected of 2nd rowers, he would have likely played a lot more first grade last year.

"If I get to play a bit creative like I can, so be it."
Like when he gets the ball in limited space and decides it is better to look for the miracle offload than take heavy contact.

I like his interviews, they are always upbeat and confident. i hope all this energy translate on the field, cause he could fill the high positive energy role that Ryan used to have. I loved it when Beau was being beau on the field.

Sirro's got no excuses now

Its make or break for him at this time of his career

Yep,he needs an exceptional season,if the drums prove correct and Hasler returns to Manly in 2018 or 19 i can't see Des having him in the Pack.

He's 23.

He may very well get a new lease of life at Manly, but I have my doubts. If he does though, you can hardly blame our club. He played under 3 coaches with us, and never excelled under any of them. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt with Sheens because he only played 5 or so games under him as a rookie. But he struggled under Potter, then continued under JT. At 23, not sure how long the club is meant to hold its breath.

Not sure why we bother to even read the drivel that is printed before the season about players loving the Coach/club/culture /team canteen .whatever.
They're not about to say that they wish that some other club would have been prepared to throw some money at them ( at least, not if they want to play first grade)
Just more BS.
