I like Madge however i don’t want to see a Public dressing down of the players again in front of the camera’s, do that after the game or debrief next day after reviewing footage or at the selection meeting.

I think this is where we should question everything. I trust the coach and he knows they needed the dressing down but why then is it made public? did he ask for it to to be televised? there should be a line drawn - what happens in the dressing sheds stays in there and never to be aired on TV... shouldn't the sheds be treated as hallowed ground?

That decision has nothing to do with Madge or the Tigers. It is an agreement between NRL & Broadcasters

ok understood, do we loose money if we don't adhere to their directive and/or make a request for them (broadcasters) not to televise it? if not, then we should tell them to shove their cameras where the sun don't shine

anyway, going on topic... I agree with most who did say that we need to extend him another two years irrespective of the results next year as long as we see progress with the roster and culture... change doesn't happen overnight!

"If Madge fails ....."
All club coaches fail, at some point.
The thing is to leave a club in a better position for being there.
Like, Cleary is doing well with players set up previously, Brisbane did well after Griffin and so on.
Good cattle bring good results.
Still so much to bring into play as a coach - team selections, roster, development plan, pathways, man management - a zillion intangibles that sometimes align good enough to bring a premiership.
The toughest job in footy; 2 actual types of coach: (1) those who are coaching and (2) those who are about to be sacked!

The Cowboys have had 20 applications for the vacant coach job, 3 from existing nrl coaches.

I believe existing NRL coaches is said very loosely, because that includes current caretaker coaches ie Payten and maybe Georgallis.

Also, Would they count the Walker brothers as 2?

I’ve been thinking about this. Give him an extra year, till the end of 2022. Just because we’re going to have a lot of cap space for 2022, and you don’t want to negotiate with players, not knowing who the coach would be. It hurt us in 2017 to an extent, so we have to make a decision nice and early. And we’re not going to sack him, so give him another year.

The board and Coach have had plenty of time to see where this relationship is going. Unlike players who are only as good as their last game, coaches need more time to achieve their goals. I’m in favour of anything that promotes stability and continuity. Why not foster open , honest communication.? Then if it suitable to both parties, sign another 4 year contract during the final year of the existing contract? If, on the other hand, key personnel within the organisation are reluctant to grow a more positive culture then they should forget concepts such as candid communication, continuity, goal setting with a view to achieving same regardless of personnel changes, and other proven methods of success? Then they should sack the coach, because it is very painful to have a winner around when you are a negative nelly looking for soft options.

meh... blind freddy gets his hands on the creme de la creme of NSW 3 times a year, and his main contribution is to absorb nutrients into their feet whilst playing blokes out of position.

I'll side with the premiership winning coach who graduated from the Bellamy school of hard knocks, who has one eye on the future whilst trying to motivate a largely inexperienced squad each week.

IMO these changes have been necessary not only because of form but also to evaluate squad members that would normally be playing CC each week.

I like the accountability aspect of his selections. It tells the players that nobody has a mortgage on their position.
